a poignant study of grief (and human processing)

"I really enjoyed this! There is a lot of complexity underneath the surface, much like Sheila's cross-stitching. The play on the trinity and physics, sewn in a thread throughout the piece, is really interesting. I thought the breakdown of trying to study the paths of the bullets was especially fascinating — how in trying to visualize it, one must gain the perspective of the killer and really place themself in their shoes. The slight unreliability of narration around Sheila and the image she's haunted by ("Had it been a dream?") adds to this tension wonderfully. Is she deducing the bullets' paths or stitching over them? Is she solving the case, or leaving footprints that confuse the scene? I don't think she has any more part in it than Eric does, and while it adds to the mystery I get the feeling that it's beyond the point. A very poignant work about grief and how the mishandling of it, even with the best intentions, can create confusion and prolong the pain."
