Chapter One
Hudson Spencer found himself gently toying with a delicate lock of Lilly Gray’s soft, light brown hair as she slept soundly, nestled against him. Her back was snugly tucked into his chest, and the gentle curve of her buttocks fit perfectly within the cradle of his groin. He couldn’t help but feel a sense of protective warmth as he touched her, a testament to their deep bond. His hand traveled from her hair down her body, tracing the contour of her shoulder, then gliding smoothly over the silken skin of her side, and finally coming to rest upon the gentle swell of her pregnant belly. Beneath his touch, the baby stirred, causing a rush of fierce paternal pride to surge through his chest. The tiny movement served as a reminder of the new life they had created together.
As the child’s movements grew more pronounced, Hudson’s heart swelled with anticipation. However, Lilly began to shift restlessly in her sleep, and he swiftly withdrew his hand, not wishing to disturb her. These days, she was easily exhausted due to the pregnancy’s advanced stage. The baby was due to arrive in just a few weeks, and the excitement mingled with a touch of anxiety.
Reluctantly, Hudson extricated himself from the tangle of sheets and limbs, taking care not to disturb the peaceful scene. He donned his clothing and ventured out to the communal living spaces, where he found Joel Dawson and Owen Anderson casually enjoying their breakfast. The moment they spotted him, their expressions grew inquisitive.
“Everything all right, mate? How’s Lilly?” Joel inquired, setting his fork down.
Hudson nodded. “Still sleeping. Didn’t even stir when I left the bed,” he responded quietly. He took a seat at the kitchen bar beside his mates and shared his concerns. “I reckon we should think about moving her to Melbourne a bit sooner than we planned, maybe two weeks before the due date. The thought of her going into labor early and getting stuck here in the middle of nowhere doesn’t sit well with me at all.”
Owen nodded solemnly. “You’re not wrong, Hudson. The idea of her giving birth here without proper medical care is bloody terrifying. I’d feel much better if she were closer to the hospital in the city.”
Joel, ever the practical one, suggested, “If you want me to, I can call and reserve a nice place for her to stay. Something comfortable and close to all the facilities she’ll need.”
“Cheers, I’d appreciate that,” Hudson said with a nod. “I’ll chat with Riley about taking care of the horses while we’re away. Can’t risk leaving them without proper attention.”
Their conversation was interrupted by a faint shuffling noise, and they all turned to find Lilly standing in the doorway. Her hair was a delightful mess from sleep, and her eyes bore dark circles of fatigue. Despite this, she offered them a weak smile.
“Morning, everyone,” she murmured, shuffling closer to the warmth of Hudson’s embrace.
He leaned in to kiss her, savoring the sweetness of her lips. After a brief moment, she pulled away and turned to Owen, who eagerly enveloped her in a tight hug, his hand tenderly caressing the baby bump.
“How’s my gorgeous girl?” Owen whispered, placing a gentle kiss upon her forehead.
“I’m knackered,” she confessed with a yawn. “The little one seems to think night and day are interchangeable lately.”
Joel, noticing her lack of appetite, suggested, “Why don’t you sit down, darl’, and I’ll whip you up some breakfast?”
Lilly declined with a shake of her head. “Thanks, but I’m not really hungry. I think I’ll just grab some juice and go sit on the verandah for a bit of fresh air.”
The three men exchanged glances filled with concern as she made her way to the refrigerator. Her pregnancy had taken a toll on her, and they knew she needed the best care possible.
Once she had left the room, Hudson spoke with determination. “Book that place in Melbourne, Joel. We’re leaving after her next appointment with the midwife. We can’t take any chances with her health or the bub’s.”
The sound of the front door closing echoed through the house as Lilly stepped outside. The gravity of their situation was palpable, and they knew the decision was for the best. They had to ensure that she was in the safest and most comfortable environment when the time came for the baby to be born.
The thought of moving Lilly to the bustling city of Melbourne filled Hudson with a mix of trepidation and resolve. He knew that the change of scenery and the proximity to medical facilities would be beneficial, but he also understood the challenges that lay ahead. The Blue Mountains had been their home for so long, and the tranquility they offered was something they’d all miss. Nevertheless, the well-being of Lilly and their unborn child was paramount.
With the decision made, Joel set about securing suitable accommodations in the city, while Hudson turned his thoughts to the practicalities of relocating. The horses would need to be well cared for, and they’d need to ensure a smooth transition for all involved.
Owen, ever the gentle soul, offered his assistance, knowing that the coming weeks would be demanding for all of them. As they sat in the quiet kitchen, their bond stronger than ever, they collectively focused on the future and the new life they were about to welcome into their fold. The move was necessary, and together they would face the challenges with love and support for one another, ready to embrace the next chapter of their shared journey.

Lilly stepped out of the house and into the crisp, early fall air, feeling the gentle caress of the cool September breeze as it danced across her features. She took a moment to appreciate the feeling, allowing her eyes to flutter shut as the wind kissed her skin. The vibrant, golden sun had just begun its descent, casting a warm glow over the landscape and offering a brief respite from the harshness of the day. She made her way to the inviting chair that had been thoughtfully placed for her by the men who had become her rock in these tumultuous times.
As she lowered herself onto the plush cushion, a sigh of pure relief escaped her lips. Her feet had borne the brunt of her day’s activities, which, despite being few in number, had taken a significant toll due to the physical demands of her pregnancy. The chair had been a group effort, a testament to their care and understanding, and she had grown to cherish the comfort it provided. The cushions enveloped her, providing the support her weary body craved.
Lilly’s hand dropped to her burgeoning belly, which had become a constant companion in both joy and discomfort. She idly massaged the taut skin, feeling the baby’s energetic flutters in response. The thought of the life growing within her brought a smile to her face, a silent reminder of the happiness that awaited her. Yet, amidst the delight, there lingered a veil of trepidation, a shadow cast by the trials of her past.
The phrase “pregnancy is all peaches and sunshine” echoed in her mind, prompting a silent chuckle at its sheer naivety. She knew firsthand that it was far from a walk in the park. The person who had coined that phrase had likely never felt the weight of a child pressing on their bladder, or the indescribable fatigue that seemed to seep into every fiber of their being.
Her thoughts drifted to the men inside, to the fears they all shared, the fear of losing one another. The nights had become a delicate dance of reassurance, each of them reaching out in the dark to confirm the presence of the others. Owen, in particular, had become a pillar of strength and comfort, his once-distant demeanor replaced by an unwavering need to protect her. The horror of his near-death experience still haunted her dreams, and she found solace in the knowledge that he no longer retreated to his own room, choosing instead to stay by her side.
The door creaked open, interrupting her contemplation. Joel emerged, his eyes immediately drawn to her. Concern etched his features as he approached, his stride both gentle and purposeful. He settled into the chair next to her, enveloping her in a warm embrace that seemed to melt her tension away. His hand found hers, his thumb tracing soothing circles on her knuckles.
“What’s been keeping you so pensive, darl’?” he whispered, his Australian accent a comforting lilt in her ear.
Her eyes remained closed, a sigh escaping her lips as she leaned into his touch. The comfort was undeniable, his strong, capable hands working their magic on her tight muscles. She felt the beginnings of a yawn form in the back of her throat.
“You okay?” Joel prompted, his voice filled with tenderness.
“Yeah, nah,” she managed to murmur, her words sluggish. The weight of her eyelids grew too much to resist. Joel’s ministrations had her teetering on the brink of slumber.
He chuckled softly, his eyes never leaving hers. He knew the nightly battles she faced, the cacophony of fears that invaded her dreams. Each of them had their own demons to contend with, but they faced them as a united front. The men had become adept at soothing her, their collective love acting as a balm against the dark thoughts that plagued her.
As she succumbed to the warmth of his embrace, Joel felt a pang of sadness that she still hadn’t found peace. The nightmares had become less frequent, but their impact remained significant. Her whimpers and tremors in the dead of night had become a silent language of pain that none of them could fully interpret. They took turns, ensuring she never faced the darkness alone.
Owen’s quiet entry did not go unnoticed. He studied her with a furrowed brow, his gaze filled with the same concern that mirrored Joel’s. Joel gestured for him to stay quiet, not wanting to disturb Lilly’s precarious grasp on consciousness. With Owen’s nod, he knew they were in agreement.
He continued his gentle back rub, his movements rhythmic and calming. The tension in her body slowly dissipated as she leaned more heavily into him. He watched her closely, waiting for the moment when she was fully relaxed.
“Let’s get you inside, darl’.” Joel whispered, his voice barely carrying across the stillness of the evening air. He carefully untangled himself from her embrace, cradling her in his arms as he stood. Owen stepped forward, silently holding the door open as Joel carried her inside.
They entered the dimly lit bedroom, the soft glow of the lamps casting a warm, welcoming light. He laid her down on the bed, her protests a mere murmur. With the grace of a man accustomed to handling precious cargo, Joel removed his shoes and climbed in beside her, drawing her into his arms once more.
Her breathing grew deep and even, the tension leaving her body as she melded into him. The softness of her sigh filled the room, a sweet symphony of peace. Joel held her tightly, his eyes never leaving her serene face. He knew she needed this, needed the assurance that she was safe and loved.
He listened to her steady breathing, feeling the warmth of her body against his. His eyes grew heavy as well, but he forced himself to stay alert, to be there for her should she need him. As the room grew darker, the only sounds were the distant whispers of the night and the soft snores of contentment from Lilly. Joel felt a profound sense of gratitude for the men who had come into her life, for the love they shared, and for the promise of a future filled with hope and happiness.

Upon waking, Lilly discovered that Joel was no longer positioned in front of her. However, she was nestled into a firm embrace from behind, with a hand claiming its rightful place on her swollen abdomen. The realization that it was Owen brought a smile to her lips. She blinked away the veil of sleep and took note of the significant improvement in how she felt. The extra hours of rest she’d needed were surely a contributing factor, yet the true source of comfort emanated from Owen’s protective hold on her.
With a bit of effort, she managed to turn onto her side, a task that had grown more challenging in her current state. As she did so, Owen’s gentle assistance made the process smoother. The instant their lips met, she felt a sense of peace. He deepened the kiss, his tongue tenderly gliding against hers. The intimacy of the moment brought a sigh of pure contentment from her soul.
As she touched the scar on Owen’s shoulder, memories of the traumatic evening of his gunshot wound flooded her mind, bringing tears to her eyes. Her emotions were a whirlwind of late, thanks to her pregnancy hormones, which seemed to amplify every feeling she experienced.
“You’re not going anywhere, darling,” Owen reassured her, his voice thick with emotion as he pulled back from their kiss.
The sight of the tear on her cheek made his heart ache, but he knew she needed these words.
Her eyes searched his, her heart racing with every beat. “I love you,” she murmured, her voice trembling with the weight of her emotions.
Owen’s response was equally heartfelt. “And I love you, too,” he said, his eyes reflecting the depth of his feelings.
Their unborn child chose that moment to assert its presence, delivering a swift kick. Owen’s features brightened into a smile as he gazed at Lilly’s protruding belly. He placed his hand on the spot, his fingers moving in awe over the skin that stretched taut with every movement.
He leaned in to kiss the area just beneath her ribs. “Is that his foot?”
Lilly’s laughter was soft and warm. “Could be. He’s so energetic, I can’t keep track of his acrobatics.”
Owen’s hand traveled upwards, lifting her shirt to expose her breast. He kissed the sensitive peak, his touch a gentle whisper of affection that elicited a soft moan from Lilly. Their relationship had been a tapestry of care and tenderness since her return, but the passionate connection they once shared had been missing. They had been overly cautious, not wanting to harm the baby growing inside her.
But Lilly had reached her limit. The desire was too intense to ignore. “You can’t keep me waiting any longer,” she protested in a murmur.
Owen’s expression grew taut with frustration. “We talked about this, Lilly. Hudson and Joel, we all agreed that we should wait until after the baby’s born.”
Her eyes narrowed as she propped herself up on one elbow. “And when exactly did you all decide this without me?” she asked, her tone laced with a hint of accusation.
Owen looked up at her, his eyes filled with uncertainty. “Well, we just thought it’d be best for everyone involved.”
Lilly’s expression grew stern. “What you all thought wasn’t a good idea is that you made this decision without my consent. Since when do you get to make choices about my body?”
Owen’s gaze faltered under her intense stare. “But we didn’t want to put you or the bub at risk.”
Her response was simple. “That’s your problem. You’re thinking too much.”
With a sense of determination, she slithered off the bed and shed her clothes. She knew Owen was watching her, his eyes dark with want. She climbed back onto the bed and straddled him, her gaze holding his.
“You’ve got two choices here, mate,” she began, her voice dripping with a seductive challenge. “You can either remove your jeans like a good boy, or you can deal with a very unhappy pregnant woman.”
The hint of a smirk played on her lips as she watched his hands move to comply. He was nervous, she could see it in the way his fingers trembled as he undid the button and shoved the fabric down his thighs. His arousal stood proud and erect, a testament to his desire for her.
Without further ado, she lowered herself onto him, taking him in fully with one smooth motion.
Owen’s eyes rolled back in his head as he let out a sound that was half-gasp, half-moan. She knew she had him. With a wicked smile, she began to rock her hips, the sensation of him deep inside her making her feel alive.
He reached for her, his hands gripping her hips, his fingers digging into her flesh as she began to move with more urgency. “Strewth, Lilly, you can’t tease me like this,” he groaned.
The sound of his desperation fueled her own passion. She leaned forward, her hair cascading over his chest as she picked up the pace. But she didn’t want this to end too quickly.
With a grin, she slowed her movements, savoring every inch of him. The frustration in his voice when he begged her not to stop sent a thrill through her. She knew she had him right where she wanted him.
Owen’s hand found its way to her clit, his fingers working their magic. The sensations grew too intense, and she couldn’t hold back much longer. She increased her rhythm, her body straining for release.
“Don’t you dare stop,” he warned, his voice a low rumble.
Lilly threw her head back, her body shaking with the force of her climax. Owen’s own release followed swiftly, his warmth filling her as he groaned her name.
As she collapsed against him, he wrapped his arms around her, holding her close as their breathing returned to normal. He kissed her hair, his hand tracing patterns on her back as she quivered with the aftershocks of pleasure.
“Did I hurt you?” he whispered into her ear.
Her response was a simple shake of her head. She snuggled closer, feeling more connected to him than ever.
“Hudson and Joel are going to have a fit when they find out,” he said, his voice a mix of amusement and concern.
Her eyes gleamed with mischief as she looked at him. “Don’t you worry about them. I have plans for them, too.”
Their laughter mingled together as they lay in the post-coital bliss, the tension of the past weeks finally dissipating. They had crossed a line they had been too scared to cross, and Lilly had no intention of letting anyone stand in the way of their happiness again.
