Chapter 1
There's this girl named Jessica Hamilton, she is 19, 5 ft 6, and has long dark hazelnut hair, and her luscious light blue eyes, is skinny, and very creative. One wouldn't know it by looking at her, but she is a werewolf. Her parents died in a car crash about a week ago, and she now believes she could be the last werewolf on Earth. Currently, Jessica is looking for employment, as she was fired from her previous job, and with rent due on her apartment, she needs to find something soon.
Jessica's friend Blake Heartman is 20 and a detective. Unbeknownst to her, Blake has a secret that she does not know. He is 6 ft. tall, with short dark brown hair and ocean blue eyes, a muscular build, and is a little sensitive. Blake has feelings for Jessica, but he's afraid to tell her that, for it might ruin their friendship. That's a chance he doesn't want to take.
One cold and windy fall night, wearing only a jacket to keep warm, Jessica walked to the place where her parents' car crash had occurred. The street had woods to her right and two 4-story brick buildings with Victorian streetlamps on the sidewalk to her left.
She was looking towards the opposite end of the street, with her hair blowing in the wind when her phone began to ring, she pulled the phone out of her pocket and answered it. "Hello, this is Jessica.” It was her friend, Blake, "Where are you?” He asked. "I'm standing on the street where my parents died, why?” "I'm coming to get you, so don't go anywhere". "I won't.” It wasn't long before Blake showed up in his car, a 4-door black Subaru, and took her home.
While on the way to Jessica's apartment, Blake had asked her what she was doing there by herself and she said, "I don't know, I guess I felt like talking to my parents about something.” "What were you going to talk to them about?” asked Blake "I don't know, I guess I just felt like talking to them.” Blake so desperately wanted to tell her how he felt, but he was more concerned about how she was feeling and had been since the day her parents died.
Blake pulled up to Jessica's apartment and asked if she wanted to talk more about it, but she told him no. Not wanting her to be by herself in this condition, he asked, "Would you like me to stay with you tonight? I'd sleep on the couch,” and of course, she refused as always. So, Blake dropped Jessica off at her apartment and went home. When Blake got home, he headed inside and straight to the bathroom to take a shower. After the shower, he got dressed and sat down at the end of his bed, worried and asking himself, "Why didn't I insist I stay with her.”
Jessica, relieved that Blake left, went inside and took a shower, and while she was in there she burst into tears because at that moment, the realization of her parents' death suddenly hit her. For a week, Jessica had been numb to the recent loss of her parents, and now she realized she was an orphan.
An hour later, Jessica got ready for bed, then she sat on the side of her bed and laid down. As she lay there, she closed her eyes, and just as she was about to drift off to sleep the thought of Blake popped into her head. She then opened her eyes and wondered why Blake had entered her mind why him, especially right after she just finished crying about her parents' death.
The next day, when Blake woke up, and decided to call Jessica to see how she was doing or what her plans were. Jessica's phone began to ring as she sat across from her best friend Jezebel, with whom she was visiting. Jezebel Langley has long dark brown hair and brown eyes and has been Jessica's best friend since they were kids and she's the only person who knows Jessica is a werewolf." Who's calling you?” asked Jezebel, Jessica said with a sigh, "It's Blake.” "What does he want?" asked Jezebel sounding irritated.
"Your guess is as good as mine,” Jessica replied while picking up the phone. "Hi Blake, what do you want?” "I just called to see what you were doing today.” “I am hanging out with my friend Jezebel this morning. We are having coffee at Katy's Cafe. Is there anything else you want to know?”
"Not really, well, how about I come and join you both for coffee” asked Blake. Jessica, uncertain what to say, says, "Well, let me ask Jezebel." Jessica then puts Blake on mute and asked Jezebel if it's okay, if he joins them for coffee. Jezebel, not in the greatest mood, replies, "You of all people should know that I like the guy but I’m not in the mood to have a morning chat with him, so no.”
"Okay,” said Jessica, Jessica then turned the mute off, and went ahead to tell Blake, "Sorry, but no Jezebel wants to spend some time with me before she goes to work, and she wants to talk privately and feels like you always interrupt our conversations.” Blake sadly replies, "I understand, I won't bother you, ladies, anymore today.”
Jessica could hear the disappointment in his voice and felt bad, and because of that she said "You aren't bothering me, it's just Jezebel who feels that way. Hmm... how about we have lunch together this afternoon? I have an interview, so it will have to be a late lunch, does that work for you?”
"Sure does,” said Blake with excitement. "Okay, I'll talk to you later?” Jessica replied. "Yeah, I'll talk to you later.” With goodbyes said, they hung up. Jessica and Jezebel resumed their conversation, which consisted of Ben, the guy who won't leave Jessica alone, as well as Blake and his older brother Jake.
Ben Fisher, a guy with short chestnut brown hair, green eyes, 5ft 9, a rude and selfish guy, as selfish as one could get, and won't leave Jessica alone. He's constantly asking her to go on a fancy dinner date with him, he wants to wine and dine her, and he wants to make her his girlfriend, and that's not going to happen. For some reason, he won't take no for an answer, honestly, it's becoming a problem.
Jake Heartman is 6ft 2’ and is Blake's older brother by 1 year. He has short, deep brown hair, greenish-brown eyes, and he tries his best to keep Jessica from Blake and try to make her his, by being all romantic with her which makes Blake incredibly angry.
An hour later, Jezebel headed to work, and then Jessica grabbed the morning's paper and started looking through the wanted ads before her interview for a maid/ waitress position at the Cozy Cafe, which was in a couple of hours. Two hours later, during her interview, her phone is on silent, the vibrating indicating someone left her a message and she ignores it, she finishes up the interview and heads out of the manager's office of the cafe.
At that point, Jessica remembered the message and checked her phone to see who it was from, and it was Blake telling her that he had a place in mind for them to have lunch. Jessica messaged back asking, "Where are we meeting for lunch, I'll meet you there?” Blake responded, "Just tell me where you are, and I'll pick you up.” Jessica in return texts, "I'm at The Cozy Cafe on North Oak St". Blake quickly texted back in response, "OK, I'm coming to get you now.” "OK, I'll see you soon", she replied.
Blake must have been close because in less than ten minutes his black car pulled up in front of the Cozy Cafe, he pulled over, got out, and opened Jessica's door for her. "You don't have to do that. I can get the door myself, but thanks anyway.” Jessica takes the door handle, climbs into the car, and closes it. Blake heads back to the driver seat, and they are on their way, Blake pulls into his driveway and shuts off the car, receiving a weird look from Jessica, and gets out.
Jessica was confused as to why they had just pulled into his driveway, and she asked Blake that very question, "Why are we at your house?" Blake, tickled by her surprised look said, "There is a river behind my house in the woods a little way in, and there is a clearing right next to the river that is perfect for a picnic, and the weather today is perfect for one.” "So, you brought me to your house to have a picnic?” asked Jessica. "Yes, I did. It's peaceful and quiet, the perfect place to talk with no interruptions.” Blake replied and was very happy to finally get her full attention.
