Summary

A witch, a demon, a werewolf, and a warlock drift into Ember Brook days before Halloween and plan to keep their heads down, but the town has other plans. At first, each side waits for a trick. Then the work speaks and the baker brings rolls. The librarian prints the rules, while the fire chief runs drills and teens take tape duty and run with it. A bench gains a cushion, a quiet zone gets light and crayons and earplugs fill a bin. A foster dog finds a crate and a name in a new home where magic and friendship lives side by side. Calinda brews in the open and writes every ingredient in large print, Edwin posts rules on the library door and answers hard questions about consent, contracts, and names as is the demon's ways. Naomi maps routes, coaches kids, and keeps the night safe while Daniel tapes cables, grounds power, and builds systems that hold. On October 31, Ember Brook throws a party built on everyday magic; big letters, clear words, exits marked, and a kill switch anyone can press. Kids adore the werewolf and the witch. Goths corner the demon with questions and adults praise the warlock’s fixes because nothing trips a breaker and no one gets lost. By dawn the choice is simple. Pack up, or sign a lease and stay. This is a story about welcome with boundaries, care in public, and a town that holds.
