Chapter 1

What is sadder than realizing your world is just a novel?

It’s knowing you’re not the protagonist of this world, but merely the evil second female lead.

What’s even sadder?

It’s that my brother is the male protagonist.

1.

My mother’s second marriage was a sucess. She married a wealthy man. She brought me along to her new home and then travelled around the world with her new husband.

I was left with my stepbrother. The star of the family, the heir to the enormous business empire. Now that I think of it, no wonder he is the male protagonist. He has all the charateristics of a male protagonist in a love story.

That’s right, this is a love story. Or else why would they need an evil second female lead like me?

I would not call myself an evil second female lead, more like pathetic second female lead. For all I know, after this bump in my head by a football from the boy next door, I died pathetically next to a trashbin trying to find myself some food.

I am shocked. Even if I was thrown out of home by my stepbrother, there was no way I would be as poor as that. I have savings, I have my degree. I can still work.

Thinking of my pathetic ending, I shiver in horror.

Maybe I should leave before I develop some evil second female lead tendency and still have money in my pocket.

Decided to escape, I open my eyes to find myself inside a hospital room with my brother sitting next to the bed.

“Hello, male lead,” I say with clenched teeth, fuming. I still cannot accept the fact that he is the male lead but I am merely a pathetic second female lead.

He lifts his eyebrow. “Maybe you need more investigation.”

“You shouldn’t be speaking.” I hush, looking around anxiously to see if someone is nearby.

The current head of the family, my brother’s grandfather is an extremely superstitious old man. A monk from the temple had told him in order to keep the family prosperous, my brother had to avoid speaking in the public for twenty years.

Now I know why there is this weird rule and even my brother said nothing about this nonsense. Because he is the male protagonist, everyone knows a good male protagonist in a love story needs a weakness, so that the female protagonist can warm her way into his heart.

“There’s no one around here,” he says in exasperation, his voice a bit grating from not speaking for so long. “I will go call the docotor. You stay here.” He pats me on my head.

The doctor arrives in a minute.

My brother is back to speaking in sign language, with me trasnlating for him.

His signs said I had lost my mind and that I needed more scans.

“He thanked you for taking care of me,” I smiled politely.

He rolled his eyes and took out his phone and typed on it. He then showed the doctor his phone.

“We have conducted thorough tests on Ms Colette, rest assured Mr Carlton. Her scans are normal.”

My stepbrother eyed me with uncertainty like I am some lunatics.

I rolled my eyes at him in return.
