Chapter 1
I walk towards the black iron gate of the school I will now be attending. The giant, castle-like building is imposing, and a normal human would definitely be shaking in fear upon seeing it, but for me, I feel at ease, almost as if I know I belong here.
As I approach, the iron gates creak open on their own accord. The castle-like building seems to look even larger now that I'm closer. Shadows flicker across its ancient stone walls. And I can almost feel eyes watching me from within. A chill wind suddenly picks up, rustling my hair.
I take a deep breath and begin walking towards the school's entrance to meet the headmaster.
The grand entrance hall is dimly lit by ornate chandeliers, casting eerie shadows. The halls are beautiful, and an intricate work of art adorns them. Once I see the headmaster, a stern-looking vampire with sharp features and piercing eyes, standing behind an ancient oak desk.
He gestures for me to approach without a word. his expression is unreadable. He remains silent for a full minute, studying me with an intensity that would make most humans squirm uncomfortably. But I maintain eye contact calmly, which seems to surprise him slightly.
Finally, he speaks in a deep-accented voice. "You're not frightened."
I smile," Not really, I'm actually pretty excited to be honest."
The headmaster's eyebrows raise slightly, a flicker of genuine surprise crossing his face. He leans back in his chair, steepling his fingers together. "Excited.. Interesting choice of words for a human entering our academy." He pauses briefly before continuing, "What is your name?"
I shrug at his words, "It's Allison". The headmaster repeats my name softly, as if testing the sound. "Allison...". He scribbles something on a piece of paper, his pen moving swiftly across the page. "And your age?" His eyes flick up to meet mine, awaiting my response. "You look quite young."
I arch an eyebrow. "I'm seventeen." Nods slowly, his expression unchanging. "Seventeen.. Still a child in many ways." He sets down his pen and leans forward, elbows on the desk. "You realize that you're vastly outnumbered here? Every other student is a vampire."
I nod. "Yes, I'm aware."
The headmaster studies me again, trying to read something deeper beneath my calm exterior. He seems almost... impressed by my composure. He then slides a document across the desk. "Here is your schedule and a map of the academy grounds. Your classes start tomorrow at eight sharp."
I nod. "Thank you." I catch him suppressing a small smile. Seemingly, finding my lack of fear and my politeness unnerving. He's probably used to humans being terrified of vampires.
He waves a hand dismissively. "You can go settle into your room. It's on the third floor, east wing. Human quarters." His expression hardens slightly.
"Alright, thanks again!" I smile and head to the east wing to my new room. The human quarters are surprisingly comfortable, though simply decorated compared to the rest of the academy. My room is small but cozy, with a single bed, a desk, and a wardrobe. As I start unpacking my things, there's a knock on the door.
I pause what I was doing and answer the door. Standing outside is a tall, handsome vampire with piercing blue eyes and dark hair. He's wearing the academy uniform, a black waistcoat and trousers with a crisp white shirt. His eye flickers with curiosity as he takes in my appearance. "You must be the new human student."
I nod. "I am." He extends a hand towardslexander. One of the student council members." His handshake is firm, but gentle, as if testing my reaction. He releases my hand and smirks slightly. "You seem... calm for a human."
His hand is cold to the touch, firm but gentle. "I'm Allison, and why wouldn't I be?" Alexander's smirk widens, revealing a hint of fang. "Because you're surrounded by vampires, darling. Most humans would be trembling in their boots." He leans against the doorframe casually, his blue eyes never leaving mine. "I must say, it's refreshing."
I raise an eyebrow at the nickname; he's quite bold. "Well, I'm glad I could make a positive first impression, I guess." Alexander chuckles softly, the sound like velvet. "Oh, you have no idea." His gaze drifts over my shoulder, into my room briefly before returning to my face."
"I came to welcome you and invite you to dinner tonight in the great hall. It's mandatory for all students." He says with a smirk then adds, "Seven o'clock sharp. Don't be late."
I guess I have no choice then.
