Unfinished Conversation
The sound of the constant tapping filled the silence in the room as you racked your head to figure out the thing in front of you. Physics. Your life time enemy which barely let you pass in the previous test and served as a warning. Your grades went down a lot last time and so you were in the library determined to bring your grades up on this test. The sun had already set and your butt was hurting but you didn't dare stop. A loud yawn made you look up from the pile of notes to see Luna grabbing her stuff.
"Let's leave now. I'm really tired." She got up from her seat.
"You can leave. I'll stay for a bit." You went back to flipping through the pages as she yawned again.
"Okay, fine", she said, "but get back early. You need the energy for tomorrow."
"Okay."
A few minutes passed when you heard a chair sliding next to you. "Can I sit here?" A male voice called out.
"Sure," you agreed without looking at him.
As soon as the person took the seat, you felt the faint scent of the sea entering your nostrils. He must have swum before coming here for smelling like that. It was enough to calm your nerves as your tense shoulders relaxed. You skipped the hard topic for now and moved to the other chapters. You wouldn't score anything if you stay stuck on a single topic.
"Do you go to Evergreen High?" he asked, noticing your uniform. You had directly arrived here after school.
"Yeah, I do." You looked up. "Do you?" His hair was messy and he looked about your age.
He shook his head slightly. "No but one of my friends does. Her name is Sia."
Your eyes widened. "Sia? She's my roommate!"
His face lit up with a wide smile enough for his eyes to crinkle. "No way! That's awesome. I've been wanting to catch up with her. Do you think I could meet her sometime?"
Before you could respond, a loud crash echoed through the library. One of the shelves have toppled over the other resulting in a dangerous Dominos. The librarian's frantic voice rang out, "Everyone, please evacuate the room immediately!"
You quickly gathered your things with a pounding heart. The library erupted in a chaos. Students started leaving in a hurry. The staff tried to keep things in order but the crowd was too overwhelming as the both of you got pushed forward. You gasped when you realised your phone was still on the table. "I'll be back." He couldn't stop you as you were already going in the opposite direction, tearing through the crowd. If you lose this, you wouldn't get a new one!
Somehow you reached your table and grabbed your phone that was thankfully not damaged. Just then you spotted a locket on his seat. It must have fell from his neck amidst the pushing and pulling. You quickly picked it up, thinking he left it behind.
As you made it out of the library, you couldn't spot him anywhere. You tried looking for him but he disappeared into the crowd. You didn't even get his name. Sighing, you held the small piece of jewelry close to your chest, deciding you'd keep it safe until you return it to its owner and maybe, just maybe you would get to finish your conversation.
