Summary

This poetic collection of haikus is a tribute to my on-going journey through a life burdened by depression. I hope that I may adequately convey the thoughts, questions, and feelings that have been so significant in my being as I have searched for understanding and relief throughout this trial. No matter what your life circumstances may be, I hope that these poems (though sometimes abstract) might shed light upon an understanding of the weight and reality that is depression. This book is ongoing, I have not at all finished it yet. I would appreciate any feedback you might have, especially constructive criticism. And please let me know if you think it would be worthwhile for me to write up descriptive explanations after each poem to help the reader understand what element of depression I am attempting to convey through the haiku. Thanks!!

The Questions

1

Despair grips my soul

Darkness follows the sunset

Will there be an end?

2

Butterflies transform

From free wings to stubby legs

Or is my sight flawed?

3

Pushing and pulling

The ever-ceaseless tides rise

How hard can I swim?

4

Birds sing in silence

Unwitnessed by any ears

Do they sing at all?

5

Hail and sleet assail

Taking all but the strongest

What of the saplings?
