Preface

Natalie

To say that I was nervous would be an understatement. I spent all night planning this and that to make sure it would go perfectly, I told no one that I was doing this. Well it wasn’t like anyone would understand anyways. I was the girl that hurt and almost destroyed Dave. Even though Maria had done the same, it was simply easier to just forgive her. This was something that I needed to do. It was the only way to make things right. To show Dave that I was still his Scar. Finally, after hours of waiting, a pair of headlights flashed over me, making me stand up. Deciding to wait at her house was the easiest choice of them all in all of this. It was also the biggest gamble I’d have to take. I didn’t know her, so I couldn’t predict how she’d react to any of this.

After what felt like forever, but was probably only a few seconds, she’d stepped out of the car. A passive look was on her face, but I knew better. She felt challenged. People like her always did. Her red hair was wild and unruly. She seemed bigger in weight than the pictures I’d been sent. Jail had not been good to her and it made it clear just how much time she’d spent on her appearance. Every image of herself she’d tried so hard to maintain was just gone now. I knew she’d blame them. I would. Honestly though, she’d look better. She almost looked like Mary. It was obvious why they’d once have been friends.

Even though she was beautiful, Mary’s beauty was undefined.

“Do I know you?” She asked, finally standing in front of me.

“No, but I do know you.” I sighed. This was wrong, and I knew it, but I’d already made the decision to keep going. “I’m Amar. I’m a former friend of Dave’s and I’m not particularly happy with the fact that he was stolen from me by a lesser version of myself.” I spat.

“Why is any of that my problem or concern?” she snapped with an eyeroll and stepped around me to get to her house. I almost let out an annoyed groan. This wasn’t the Clarissa that I wanted nor needed. This one was scary. In order to succeed in my plans, I would have to trigger her. Whether it would be the jealousy or the anger that did it, I didn’t know. I’m just going to try and hope that it works.

“I’ve heard about you Clarissa. I’m out for vengeance and I need your help to do it. You know Mary better than anyone and I know Dave best. We can end them both for good. Finally put her in her place and make him regret ever choosing her instead.

“Not only do I not do that anymore Amar, I’m not allowed to. Besides, I don’t care. As fun as that promise sounds, I don’t want to go back to jail. Not for anyone, especially not for them.” I was losing her. Could feel her slipping away and that couldn’t happen. I needed her on my side for this to work. It was the only way. I had to say something that would trigger her enough to agree.

“You do know they’re the reason that you ended up there right. They’re the ones who pressed charges. They’re the reason that John is dead and Chase is in jail. It has always been them. Help me and I can find out who helped them. There’s no way they got all of that evidence alone. You can get your revenge on all who were involved.” For a moment she remained silent and I was starting to think that all hope was lost. Then she turned to face me with an anger that didn’t even come close to theirs, but was enough to let me know that I’d succeeded with her.

“I’m not saying that I’ll help, but I can give you my number if you need a friend or someone to talk to that’ll understand.” I smiled to myself… I had her.

They had no idea what was coming for them.
