Chapter 1: Love at first sight
Chapter One
Lisa, a beautiful and well-cultured young woman from an African home, had just finished her shopping and was heading back from the supermarket. She boarded a bus, carrying her bags, and found an empty seat. Beside her sat a man—Audrey.
Audrey was smart-looking, confident in his appearance, yet the moment his eyes landed on Lisa, his composure faltered. For a brief second, he froze, struck by her beauty. Words failed him, though his heart raced as if urging him to speak.
“Greetings,” Lisa said politely, breaking the silence.
“Greetings… to you too,” Audrey replied, his voice steady though his mind spun.
The bus rattled on until, at the next stop, a large man stepped in. His presence was imposing, his gaze unsettling. Almost immediately, his eyes locked on Lisa.
“Hey, beautiful,” the stranger sneered. “I’m taking you home tonight. How much for one night?”
The bus grew tense. Audrey’s chest tightened, but before fear could creep in, his voice rose with courage.
“Hey, man, have some respect for women. She’s my wife. So you better watch your tongue.”
The goon chuckled darkly, sizing him up. “Oh, I see. You’ve got eyes for good things, huh?” With a mocking grin, he walked away and dropped into a seat at the back.
Lisa turned to Audrey, a smile playing at her lips despite the tension. “Thank you… Mr. Husband.”
Audrey’s eyes softened. He leaned slightly closer, his own smile bright and warm. “You’re welcome, wifey.”
For the rest of the ride, their hearts carried an unspoken truth: something new had just begun.......
After a few minutes.
“Oh, I’ll be dropping off at the next bus stop,” Lisa said.
Audrey’s lips curved into a smile. “Oh, what a coincidence! That’s my stage too.”
Lisa chuckled softly. “It seems we’re going in the same direction.”
The bus slowed, and they both stepped out together. The late afternoon sun cast golden light over the quiet street as they began walking side by side. Audrey, stealing quick glances at Lisa, decided it was the perfect moment to break the silence.
“Allow me to introduce myself,” he said warmly. “I’m Audrey Wilson, 28 years old. I work as a salesman at Defy Electronics, and I live around this estate—alone.”
Lisa smiled politely. “Alright. Nice to meet you, Audrey. I’m Lisa.”
“Just Lisa?” Audrey asked curiously, tilting his head.
“Yes, just Lisa,” she replied, her smile faint but teasing.
He pressed a little further. “How about age, occupation… maybe a little more about you?”
Lisa stopped for a second, her gaze softening. “I’m sorry, Audrey, but I don’t open up to strangers that easily.”
Audrey nodded, hiding his slight disappointment behind a smile. “Fair enough. But how about this—you give me your number so we can meet again sometime? Maybe lunch or dinner?”
Lisa chuckled, tilting her head playfully. “Why don’t you give me your number instead? If I decide to call, I will.”
Relieved, Audrey quickly pulled a card from his wallet and handed it to her. “Of course. Here you go.”
Lisa accepted it with a smile. “Thank you, Audrey. It was nice meeting you, but I’ll stop here—this is my home.”
Audrey slowed his steps, not wanting the moment to end. “Alright, Lisa. It was wonderful meeting you too. Until next time—I’ll be waiting for your call.”
As she waved goodbye and disappeared behind the gates, Audrey continued on to his own home, his thoughts consumed by her. That night, he tossed and turned, unable to sleep, waiting for the call that never came.
Days turned into weeks. Weeks slipped into months. Still, Lisa never called nor texted. Audrey’s heart grew heavy with disappointment, but his feelings never faded—he could not let go of the beautiful stranger who had stolen his heart on a bus ride.
What he didn’t know was that Lisa, too, thought of him often. She cared, but she wasn’t ready to make it easy. Lisa had decided to play hard to get.
