Day 1

Seonghwa was a quiet boy with soft, expressive eyes that sparkled whenever he saw a fresh box of legos. Each colourful brick was a portal to a world of possibilities, and his tiny fingers would dance as he meticulously placed each piece, building castles and spaceships, letting his imagination run wild. On the first day of daycare, as he clutched his beloved lego set, anxiety swirled in his stomach. Would other kids like him? Would they want to play with his toys?

As he entered the vibrant room filled with chatter, paint-splattered tables, and laughter, his gaze landed on a boy with tousled black hair, who was pulling apart a pile of blocks. Hongjoong was lively and outgoing, loved to sing and dance, but legos? Not so much. They seemed more of a puzzle to him than a playground.

"Hi, I'm Seonghwa. Do you like legos, too?" Seonghwa asked, excitement bubbling in his voice. "Mm-mm" Hongjoong shook his head "Why build when we can dance?" Hongjoong replied, a grin spreading across his face as he started to wiggle and twirl "I'm Hongjoong, by the way"

Seonghwa giggled at Hongjoong's spontaneity but felt a little deflated. "Dancing is cool.." Seonghwa dragged out, looking down and rocking on his feet.

Hongjoong noticed Seonghwa's disappointment and paused his twirling. He tilted his head, considering. "Hey, what if we try both?" he suggested. "You show me how to build something, and then I'll show you a dance move!"

Seonghwa's eyes widened, hope flickering back. "Really? You'd want to build with me?"

"Sure!" Hongjoong plopped down next to Seonghwa, grabbing a handful of colorful bricks. "What should we make?"

Seonghwa's fingers trembled with excitement as he opened his box. "Let's build a rocket! Then maybe it can dance, too."

Together, they stacked and snapped pieces into place. Seonghwa explained which bricks made the best engines, and Hongjoong added silly touches- googly eyes, a flag made from a napkin. When their rocket was finished, Hongjoong stood up and demonstrated his favorite spin. "Now the rocket dances!" he declared, making swooshing noises and spinning the creation in the air.

Seonghwa giggled, joining in. For a while, the two boys forgot about the rest of the room, lost in their own world of building and movement. Other kids glanced over, curious, and a few even joined to help or cheer them on.

When the day ended and parents began to arrive, Seonghwa and Hongjoong gathered their things. Seonghwa carefully packed his lego set, and Hongjoong tucked the crumpled napkin flag into his pocket.

As they walked to the door, Seonghwa looked up at his new friend. "Want to play again tomorrow? Maybe we can build a castle."

Hongjoong grinned, swinging his backpack. "Only if you promise to learn a new dance move, too!"

They laughed, waving goodbye as they left the daycare-Seonghwa's heart lighter, and Hongjoong already humming a new tune, both boys looking forward to another day of building and dancing together.
