Chapter 1 – Welcome to LA
[Scene: Outside LAX Airport. Evening. The sky is streaked with orange and purple. Hannah steps outside, dragging her suitcase, her cross necklace catching the last bit of sunlight.]
Hannah (thinking): Los Angeles. The city of lights, lust, and limitless freedom. Lord, please… don’t let me lose myself here.
Brianna (waving dramatically): “HANNAH! Girl, look at you!”
Hannah (smiling, hugging her tightly): “Brianna! I can’t believe I’m actually here.”
Brianna (pulling back, looking her up and down): “Still the same sweet church girl I remember. Modest dress, sneakers, hair all neat. Cute… but, babe, this isn’t Sunday school. This is LA.”
Hannah (raising a brow, laughing nervously): “And what does that mean exactly?”
Brianna (grinning mischievously): “It means I’m about to show you the time of your life.”
---
[Scene: In Brianna’s flashy convertible. Palm trees line the streets. Music blasts on the radio.]
Hannah (looking out the window, wide-eyed): “Wow… the city feels alive. Billboards everywhere. People moving like they’re chasing something.”
Brianna: “They are. Fame, money, sex… take your pick. LA’s a playground, and everybody wants a turn on the swings.”
Hannah (frowning slightly): “That sounds… dangerous.”
Brianna (snorting): “Dangerous? Please. It’s fun. You just need to loosen up. Out here, no one cares who you were back home. It’s all about who you become.”
Hannah (thinking, holding her necklace): Who I become… I promised God I wouldn’t lose myself. But why does a part of me already feel like I might?
Brianna (changing the subject, playful): “So… any LA crushes yet? I mean, come on, Hannah, we passed like fifty fine guys in the last ten minutes.”
Hannah (laughing): “Brianna! I literally just got off the plane.”
Brianna (grinning): “Doesn’t matter. Around here, one look can change everything.”
---
[Scene: Arriving at Brianna’s apartment. Music thumps from the building next door. Neon lights spill from an open window.]
Hannah (nervous, glancing at the noise): “Do your neighbors… throw parties like this all the time?”
Brianna (unlocking the door, smirking): “Not all the time. Just the ones worth remembering.”
Hannah (hesitant): “I should unpack. Maybe rest. It’s been a long day—”
Brianna (cutting her off, already grabbing her hand): “No way. Unpacking is boring. Tonight, you’re coming with me. First night in LA? That’s not for sleeping. That’s for living.”
Hannah (protesting): “But… Brianna—”
Brianna (teasing): “Don’t worry, I’ll protect your halo.” [winks]
---
[Scene: At the party. The apartment is packed. Red cups, smoke, loud music. Hannah clings to Brianna, overwhelmed.]
Hannah (whispering): “This is insane. Everyone’s drinking.”
Brianna (rolling her eyes, handing her a cup): “And so should you. Loosen up, Hannah. It’s just one drink.”
Hannah (pulling back): “No… I don’t drink. You know that.”
Brianna (grinning, teasing): “New York Hannah doesn’t. But LA Hannah might. C’mon, live a little.”
Hannah (thinking): It’s just a cup. But if I take it… is that the first crack in my promise?
[A tall, confident guy approaches. Broad shoulders, perfect smile.]
Random Guy (smirking): “Hey… haven’t seen you around before.”
Hannah (nervous laugh): “I just moved here. Today, actually.”
Random Guy (leaning closer): “Well, welcome to LA. Stick with me, and you’ll never want to leave.”
Hannah (thinking, heart racing): His eyes… they’re dangerous. But why does a part of me like the way he’s looking at me?
Brianna (nudging her, whispering): “See? Five minutes in, and already catching attention. I told you, this city is different.”
Hannah (muttering, clutching her necklace): “Too different.”
---
[Later. Hannah sits on the couch, cup still untouched. The guy sits next to her.]
Random Guy: “So… Hannah, right? What are you looking for in LA?”
Hannah (hesitant): “A fresh start. School. Focus. I… I have goals.”
Random Guy (grinning, leaning closer): “Forget goals. You need pleasure. Everyone does.”
Hannah (thinking, panic rising): He’s so close. I should push him away. But my body isn’t moving. Why does temptation feel like gravity here?
Brianna (calling from across the room): “Hannah! Don’t look so scared. He won’t bite… unless you want him to.”
[Everyone laughs. Hannah feels heat rise to her cheeks. The music grows louder, the lights dimmer. She grips her necklace.]
Hannah (thinking): Day one in LA… and already, I feel myself slipping.
Random Guy (whispering): “Welcome to the city, Hannah. Trust me… this is only the beginning.”
[Chapter ends.]
