Chapter 1 - Something on her Mind

NOTE: This is book 13 in the “My Mafia Madness” series. Please make sure you read books 1 - 12 before beginning this one.

Dante was seriously concerned about his wife, Alexa.

He knew that she had something on her mind throughout the duration of their dinner; something that was clearly troubling her, and he wanted to know what it was.

After helping his wife out of her gown, Dante then headed off into his own ensuite to have himself a shower and get changed into his black silken boxers for bed.

He thought that giving her a little space might give her the time that she needed to get over whatever it was that was upsetting her.

Was she perhaps still upset after the fight they had?

But he thought that was over and done with already.

They had been so happy leading up to the dinner.

As he splashed some cologne onto himself, the Don thought seriously about when she had started acting strangely and suddenly recalled what she had said to him at the dinner table.

Something about him being out on the restaurant balcony.

But he hadn’t been out there… so what was she talking about?

Why would she think he had been out there?

Had something happened to her out on that balcony tonight?

Something that she wasn’t telling him about?

He decided to ask her more about it when she was finished showering.

Looking into the mirror and satisfied with his finished look, wearing nothing but his boxers, the Don’s sculpted, tattooed chest and arms were out on full display as he then turned and headed out of the ensuite, switching off the light behind him.

He started making his way into the master bedroom, knowing that Alexa would be in there waiting for him after her shower.

As soon as he stepped foot into the bedroom, he noticed her already there seated on the bed and wearing one of her usual silken nightgowns.

She looked up and saw him entering the room, smiling at him.

But something wasn’t quite right about her smile, and Dante immediately recognised this.

It didn’t reach her eyes, as it normally would.

He decided to bring it up whatever was going on with her when the right moment presented itself, instead of grilling her about it straight away.

After all, he wanted her to forget her worries and enjoy herself out here on the cruise with him.

As he continued staring at Alexa’s incredible body, revealed by the sheer nightgown, he found himself hardening down below and his eyes hooded with lust as he headed for the bed.

“How are you feeling?” he asked with his usual deep, smooth toned voice.

“Alright.” she replied.

“Why do you ask?”

He shrugged, “No reason. Just checking in on my wife.”

Alexa smiled before then plugging her phone in to charge and placing it onto the bedside table next to her.

She then turned to see Dante come crawling onto the mattress, headed directly towards her with that hungry look in his blazing emerald-green eyes.

Fixated straight on her.

She knew what mood her husband was in right now and it immediately set her core aflame.

She swallowed nervously, unsure if she could go through with this right now, after… what had happened to her.

Dante continued crawling over towards her, not stopping when he reached her, but instead forcing her down onto her back on the mattress as he climbed up and on top of her.

Both his arms boxed her in, one either side of her head as he gazed down into her warm, brown eyes with starvation.

“I’ve been picturing having you all night.” he almost whispered the words down to her.

“All the things I would do to you… all the pleasure I’d give you…”

Alexa’s breaths were coming in hot and heavy now as she lay there, staring up into his eyes, unable to move or say anything in response.

This man… he was far too tempting.

She wished that she could have kept the whole matter a secret and just gone on with their happy lives together, forgetting it had ever happened.

But the more she tried to ignore it, the more it ate away at her from the inside.

Without waiting for her permission, Dante then leaned down and began kissing her mouth in a hungered manner, raw, primal and desperate as their mouths moved as one and his tongue delved deep inside her mouth.

And the more passionate it became, the more images of what had happened flashed themselves into her mind, one after the next, causing her to furrow her brows in disgust.

No…

She couldn’t proceed with this…

She had to stop this now.

Pulling away from their kiss and pushing his chest away from her, Alexa spoke in desperation, with a concerned expression.

“I can’t do this…” she panted heavily afterwards, looking up into his eyes for understanding.

But instead, she found only confusion.

He hovered over her, frowning as he spoke.

“What’s wrong?” Dante asked.

With her brows furrowed inwards at him, and with her lips trembling, she looked as if she might cry at any second as she continued panting heavy breaths.

And now Dante could see the seriousness of whatever this was in her eyes.

He himself had become concerned for her.

“Hey, come on, sit up.” he declared, pulling her up to sit with him, with their backs up against the headboard and wrapping his arms around her.

“Come and sit with me.”

He could feel her entire body was physically trembling now as her breathing seemed to calm down slightly.

“What’s going on with you?” he asked her.

“You were off at the dinner. Don’t think I didn’t notice.”

She swallowed nervously, still unable to meet his gaze as she kept hers aimed forwards and lowered.

Bella, talk to me. You can tell me anything, you know that.” he reminded her, holding her in close against his warm body.

Alexa exhaled a shaky breath but kept her eyes downcast.

She had no choice… she had allowed this to go on for long enough.

She needed to tell Dante what had happened.

Even knowing just how badly the Don would react after hearing it.

Opening her mouth, Alexa began to explain the best that she could manage.

“Dante… something happened… at the dinner tonight.” she whispered softly, nervously.

“Alright, go on.” he urged her, running his fingers over her arm in a soothing manner.

Alexa felt horrible; how could she tell him what had happened to her?

She felt as if somehow, it was all her fault.

As if she was the one who had allowed Matteo to go so far.

Inside, Alexa scalded herself, saying that she should have known better, or at least turned around at some stage, just to check that it was in fact Dante there with her…

Her eyes began to well with warm tears, and the area around her eyes reddened.

“Come on, talk to me.” Dante urged.

“What happened at the dinner?”

“I didn’t know…” she turned and looked into his eyes with a pleading expression.

“I thought it was you, I swear… I swear…”

She suddenly began crying and he quickly pulled her in closer, up against his chest as she sobbed aloud.

“I thought it was you…”

“Hey, hey, it’s alright. Whatever it is, we can figure it out. I promise.” he tried reassuring her.

She shook her head vigorously in response, swallowing a lump in her throat. .

“I should have known. I should have known.” she spoke angrily now, through gritted teeth.

“That bastard, he tricked me.”

“Alexa, please tell me what happened.” Dante almost begged her now.

With heavy panting breaths, she pulled away from him and sat herself upright, looking into his eyes with a pleading expression.

“Before I do, I need you to promise me something…” she whispered to him.

Needing to know more, he had no choice other than to agree to her demands.

“Alright… what?” he enquired.

“What I’m about to tell you… it’s going to piss you off.” she declared knowingly nodding her head.

“A lot.”

He looked her in the eye, frowning, “Ok…”

“But you have to promise me… promise that you won’t get mad or do anything stupid after I tell you.” she pleaded with him.

“Please, I need you to promise me, Dante. Please.”

He thought for a moment, but then spoke with a serious expression, “Alright, I promise.”

She took a steadying breath to centre herself before she then began explaining what had happened.

And she felt disgusted having to do so.

“Do you remember when I needed to go to the restroom after dinner?” she asked him.

“Yeah.” he replied.

“Well, after I came out, I was approached by one of the waiters. He told me that someone was waiting for me out on the balcony, and that his name was Mr. Romano. So, naturally I thought it was you and I went outside…” she began to explain.

Dante was already frowning as he continued to listen intently.

“When I got out there, I found a rose and a letter sitting on the railing. So, I picked them up and read the note. It said, ‘red looks good on you.’” she swallowed nervously, closing her eyes for a second as a tear rolled down her cheek.

And as soon as Dante had heard Alexa say those exact words, for some unknown reason it reminded him of something that had happened more recently, though he couldn’t quite put his finger on what it was.

“The next thing I know, I feel hands on me… and… and I thought it was you, so….” she sobbed, as Dante’s expression hardened within the fraction of a second.

“So, what?” he enquired.

“Alexa, what exactly happened out on that balcony?”

She closed her eyes, shaking her head, unable to break the horrific news to him as she began climbing off the mattress and moving to stand.

“I can’t, I’m sorry, I thought I… I could but-” she apologised to him.

“-Alexa…” he warned as he too climbed off the bed and rounded it to come and stand in front of her.

“I can’t! I can’t tell you!” she pleaded with him in desperation.

“Please, don’t ask me.”

“Alexa, tell me what happened on that balcony!” Dante was now demanding the truth from her and his tone had changed entirely.

He was angry… just as she knew he would be.

“You promised you wouldn’t get mad.” she proclaimed angrily.

“You promised me!”

He closed his eyes to try and calm himself, then reopening them as he took a deep breath in and exhaled before he spoke.

“I’m not mad… I just want to know what happened.” he announced as calmly as he could manage.

“Now would you just tell me-”

“-He violated me, ok?” she proclaimed angrily, staring back at him while frowning.

“Is that what you wanted to hear? That your wife was felt up and violated by another man!”

Dante’s expression showed a mixture of shock and rage as he stood staring back at her, hurt in his heart and with disbelief clouding his rational thoughts.

“What?” he barely whispered the word as his brows lifted.

“I already told you. I thought it was you standing behind me. I didn’t get to turn around until he was already gone.” she sobbed.

“That’s why I asked you about being out on the balcony, and you said you hadn’t been out there. That’s when I realised… I knew it wasn’t you…”

“But… how could you let another man do that to you- ” Dante questioned angrily.

“-I thought it was you!” she snapped back at him, loudly.

He lifted his hand, running it down over his face in frustration as she continued sobbing.

His breathing had increased, becoming far more rapid and heavy now, and he thought for a moment before he spoke his next words to her.

“Do you have any idea who it was?” he found himself asking her.

Alexa looked to him, meeting his angered gaze with her brows furrowed inwards knowingly.

And then she nodded her head, “Yes.”
