A Heavy Task
Sometime in life, you have to make the toughest of decisions. It’s easy to get confused and stressed, especially in decisions that will shape your fate. Other times, life will make the decisions for you whether you like it or not… Sometimes, life gives you the deepest darkest paths that not even the brightest sun can aid you on…and that’s exactly where I am now.
Sunday, November 12th… It’s super early in the morning and barely 41 degrees. Edwin Vampries and I just got off a plane from France back to America and have gone home. Just earlier, we were abducted and forced to testify in front of an ancient Vampire Queen…we quite nearly didn’t make it out with our lives. We need to tell Jason the news… This is a very heavy subject…
“Jason, we need to talk,” Edwin says, standing on the opposite end of a small clearing wearing just his boxers (long story…).
“About what? If you’re about to beg me for mercy, think again. I will get Isadora from you! I will!” Jason exclaims, not even seeming to notice that Edwin’s nearly naked.
“Isadora almost got sentenced to death. I as well. Listen, I need you to NOT transform her into a Werewolf. Not you or any of your stupid packmates. I’ve been warned that if anyone transforms her, I’ll be killed. Not just me, but my entire family,” Edwin says.
“Oh, you’ll be killed, huh? Great! I’ll transform her now!” Jason exclaims.
Jason transforms into his fat black wolf form. He lunges at me! I let out a scream, afraid I’m about to be bitten. Edwin quickly rushes and smacks Jason away from me.
The two begin fighting violently. Jason doesn’t use his teeth, but he sure threatens to! Edwin punches Jason a few times and he just shakes it off, scratching at Edwin with his claws. I grab a big stick off the ground and BAM! BAM! I whack the both over the head with the stick.
“Owww, what the heck, Dora?!” Jason exclaims, snarling at me.
“Quit fighting you two! Listen! Edwin was my first love! I haven’t fully decided yet, but I think… I think I want to date Edwin,” I declare.
Jason stares at me with huge bubbly eyes. I have betrayed him. Just the other day, he risked everything to rescue me when I fell off of Governor’s Bridge and nearly drowned in the Patuxent River. I feel a bit bad, but maybe I will still change my mind.
Tears fall from Jason’s eyes and he turns, ears down and tail between his legs. I have an important decision to make. A decision that will change my fate for better or for worse. Jason’s howls echo as he vanishes from sight…
“Still haven’t made up your mind? Didn’t you see how eager he was to get us all killed? Ugh. Fine. You get to make this decision, but don’t think I’m letting you go so easily this time,” Edwin grumbles. “Uhhhh, I need to put some clothes on… I- I forgot I was in my underwear this whole time… Do you need help getting home?”
“I know the way from here. It’s across the street and down a little ways,” I reply. “I don’t think my mom would take so kindly to me being gone a long time and showing up with you in your underwear…”
“Riiiiight. I’ll just follow at a distance until you get close to home. I just… I need to keep you safe,” Edwin says. “I nearly lost you again. I won’t let ANYONE take you from me this time!”
I begin walking. I can feel him following me. The path home should be nearby… Wait- Where’s the path home…? I freeze in place, staring at where the path should be.
“Dora…” Edwin’s voice echoes behind me. “Dora, are you okay? Your ping pong match is frozen. Isa?! Hey!”
I don’t move. I can’t. I’m stuck staring at the ground. I feel Edwin tap my shoulder with one of his icicle fingers. I shiver and shake my head, turning to face him.
“I forgot,” I say.
“Forgot…?” Edwin asks.
“This isn’t anywhere NEAR my home…” I reply, swallowing the lump in my throat.
“You’re right. It isn’t. Do you want me to carry you home?” Edwin asks.
“Please… I can’t get home… My legs hurt…” I moan, a sharp pain ripping through my body from the bite wound on my leg.
“Strap in, rodeo star… This bull is on the loose!” Edwin says, throwing me onto his back.
I cling on tight. Edwin takes off running. The world around me turns into a blur. For a moment, it feels like I am flying.
“Aaaaand we’re here. Go on, get inside. I gotta go,” Edwin says.
“Edwin… I love you, okay? I just am not ready to commit to anything just yet. Jason still takes up room in my heart. You know it. He knows it. We all know it. I’m going to think this over. I still might choose you, but there’s also a high chance I just pick Jason. When you were gone…I felt dead… And then you just waltz back into my life like you never left,” I say.
“I was in Annapolis. I didn’t even go that far,” Edwin argues.
“That’s still too far! And you didn’t TELL me you were there! I would have kept your secret!” I cry out.
“Go home! I’m sorry! I never meant to hurt you!” Edwin cries and vanishes.
“Edwin…?” I call out, looking around. “E-Edwin…? Fine… See you tomorrow…?”
He’s gone again. I sigh and knock on the door to my house. There’s a long pause. The sun is starting to rise higher and the clouds are dissipating.
“ISADORA BELLELOVER! I THOUGHT YOU DIED!” my mom yells, throwing the door open.
“I did, too. Long story… I’m sorry, okay? If you let me speak-”
“GET IN THE HOUSE, RIGHT NOW!” my mom yells, snapping her fingers at me.
“Mom…” I say, entering the house.

Great beginning to book 3! 💯 I’m glad that she got home safe!
