Chapter 1

Thirteen years later, Shen Long is a twenty-five-year-old young man living with his parents, Shen Mo Han and Lee Juyi. He has two brothers and a sister. Both of his siblings (Shen Lu and Shen Jiayi) are married and have left home with their respective partners. Only his youngest brother, Shen Kai, lives and works to help his parents and care for himself, having been paralyzed since the age of twelve. The exact cause is unknown, but it is certain that he is confined to his home due to a mysterious illness that has plagued his body. His parents had tried their best to cure their child's illness, using both modern and traditional treatments, but to no avail. In fact, they were even more struggling because the medical costs were so high that they had exhausted all their savings. In the end, they had to give up and care for their child at home, especially since their father was only an elementary school teacher and their mother was a housewife who relied entirely on her father's meager income to support the family.

* In Gu Bang City

In the yard of one house, a middle-aged woman was sweeping.

"Shen Kaii!! Come on, wake up! It's already seven o'clock. Get up and help mom prepare porridge for your brother!"

Juyi shouted from the front yard where she was sweeping fallen leaves from the trees.

Shen Kai, hearing his mother's screams, immediately woke up and sat up on his simple bed, an old bed without a mattress, just a mat and pillows for resting.

Shen Long, who was still asleep, also woke up upon hearing his mother's voice.

"Okay, Mom... I'll get ready right away."

Shen Kai immediately got out of bed and went to the kitchen at the back of the house. He put water in a pot, put wood in the fire, lit the fire, then placed the pot on top. He then cleaned the rice and put it in.

While waiting for the porridge to cook, Kai decided to help his mother clean the inside of the house. Shen Long, who had woken up, struggled to get up and leaned against the headboard.

Their father had already left for school where he had been teaching since six o'clock because it was far from their house.

After finishing cleaning, Shen Kai returned to the kitchen and prepared porridge for his older brother. Upon arriving at the door, Kai knocked.

*Knock knock... Brother...*

"Brother Long... May I come in?" Shen Kai said.

"Come in, little brother. It's okay." Shen Long, hearing his brother's voice, immediately invited him in.

Kai entered, carrying a tray with a bowl of porridge and a glass of water.

"Big brother... come on, get up and eat this porridge," Shen Kai said.

Putting down the tray, Shen Kai helped Shen Long get up and sit on his bed. Yes, the only one in the house who still used a mattress on his bed was Shen Long, who was sick.

"Forgive your older brother, Shen Kai. Because of my illness, I've become a burden to this family," said Shen Long.

"What do you mean, brother? You're my brother and the son of my parents. How could we consider you a burden? Even though you can't do anything, you're still my best older brother. You've always played with me since I was little, you've always protected me when I was bullied by other children," said Shen Kai, full of emotion, remembering the happy past with his older brother.

What Shen Kai said was true. Shen Long was a normal, healthy, and strong boy as a child.

He often played with his three younger siblings and always looked out for Shen Kai because he was the youngest among them. However, unfortunately, at the age of twelve, for no apparent reason, Shen Long experienced total paralysis in both legs and his left arm.

His parents had tried various methods, but all were in vain. Even the best doctors came to see Shen Long. He gave up on treating him because a thorough examination found nothing unusual about Shen Long's body.

"I know you love your brother very much, but I don't want to continue like this... why do I have to be paralyzed? Why can't I get better?" Shen Long said, full of disappointment in himself.

As he spoke, Shen Long's tears began to flow without stopping. He hated himself so much right now.

"Brother... don't cry... the Shen Long I know wouldn't cry easily. Even when he was attacked by so many people when he protected me, he didn't cry at all."

Shen Kai tried to comfort his brother, even though he was deeply devastated by his brother's condition.

Lee Juyi, who had just entered the house, immediately heard a voice.

Shen Long cried and immediately ran to his room.

"What's wrong? Shen Long, why are you crying, son? Shen Kai, what's wrong with your brother?" Juyi asked.

"I'm fine, Mom," Shen Long replied, immediately stopping his crying and Shen Kai helped him wipe his tears.

"Shen Kai, be honest with your mother, what happened that made Shen Long cry?" Juyi asked, staring at Shen Kai.

"I... it's Mom... actually, Brother..."

Before she could finish speaking, Shen Long interrupted.

"Come on, Mom... I'm fine. Shen Kai didn't do anything, so don't pressure him anymore."

Shen Long said, looking at his mother, then back at Shen Kai.

Understanding the meaning of his brother's gaze, Shen Kai decided not to speak or answer his mother's question. He understood very well from Shen Long's eyes that he didn't want his sadness to make his mother sad and cry too.

Shen Long had seen enough of his mother's tears fall as she had to accept the fact that she couldn't be cured.

Seeing that her two children didn't want to talk, Juyi couldn't force it any longer.

"Fine, if you don't want to answer... Shen Kai, isn't it time for you to go to the market? It's already eight o'clock."

Shen Kai, who had been silent, immediately came to his senses and got up to go to the bathroom.

"Brother, I'm going to get ready first. Mother, please accompany me."

"Okay," both of them replied.

Shen Kai went to take a shower and after After getting ready, he returned to say goodbye to his older brother and mother.

"Big brother... Mom... I'm going now."

"Be careful," said Shen Long.

"Don't work too long, remember to rest," continued Juyi.

"Okay," replied Shen Kai.

After Shen Kai left, Shen Loang was again asked by his mother why he was sad, but he calmly told her that he was fine and there was no need to worry. Lee Juyi, as a mother who knew her son's character well, stopped asking him for an explanation and asked him if he wanted to go out into the yard to sunbathe. Shen Long immediately agreed, and Juyi took a wheelchair and placed it next to the bed so Shen Long could climb in.

After that, Shen Long asked his mother for the tablet he usually used for work so he could work while working.

Despite his limitations, he still tried to make his life meaningful. He used the second-hand tablet Shen Mo bought him to write novels and earn money. He earned a hundred dollars a month, and sometimes, when he received a bonus, he could earn up to two hundred dollars. It wasn't a large amount, but He could help his family's life.

Shen Long sat on the porch until twelve noon, but he didn't get too hot because there was a canopy over him, so as time passed and the earth continued its rotation, the sun's rays were no longer shining on him, so he could continue his work in peace.

When the clock struck twelve minutes past two, a man on a motorcycle arrived and parked his vehicle in the yard.

Shen Long observed the man and didn't recognize him at all.

The man then walked over to Shen Kai and asked him.

"Good afternoon, young man... is this really Mrs. Lee Juyi's house?" the man asked.

Because of the hot weather, the man was wearing a mask that covered almost all of his face.

"Yes... this is her house, and I am her son. Is there anything I can help you with?" Shen Long asked politely.

"So this is her house... huh, I had a hard time finding it." The man quickly changed his tone of voice once Shen Long said that this was indeed their house.

He didn't know why the man had changed his tone of voice, but from his appearance, he didn't seem like a good person.

"So, sir, is there anything... "How can I help you? What's the matter? Are you looking for my mother?" Shen Long asked.

"Oh... it's nothing serious. My name is Huang Shao. Sorry for the late introduction."

"And the reason I came here is to collect your mother's online loan fees," Huang Shao said calmly, but with emphasis when he mentioned the word "online loan."

"What? Online loan?" Hearing these two words, Shen Long immediately felt uneasy. In this business, especially in his country, the loan fees offered were fantastic, with the lure of low interest rates.

However, once the contract was signed, many irregularities emerged, such as sudden interest rates soaring due to unreasonable policies, abnormal repayment regulations, and many others.

Shen Long could only hope that the place his mother had chosen wasn't one of them.

"How much loan did my mother receive, sir?" Shen Long asked cautiously.

"Not much. Your mother received a disbursement of one hundred thousand yuan and has already repaid about seventy-five thousand yuan."

"But unfortunately..." This month's bill hasn't been paid, which is a breach of contract. All our borrowers are not permitted to be late in paying their monthly bills.

"If that happens, I'm very sorry, the interest on the bill will increase fivefold," Huang Shao said with a smile and handed over the contract his mother had signed.

Seeing the contract, Shen Long held his breath because the outstanding amount was twenty-five thousand yuan. With the fivefold interest increase, they still owed around ninety thousand yuan.

That was only ten thousand yuan less than the total loan his mother had received. This was clearly a robbery disguised as a loan shark business.

However, after carefully reading the contents of the contract, Shen Long realized that none of the statements were fabricated.

Everything matched the contract in his hands. There were no traces of alterations on the document, confirming its validity.
