Strong Concept & Potential... Needs More Depth in the Female Lead
"This story has a lot of potential, and there are elements that really worked for me, especially the male POV sections. Those felt the most natural and engaging, and the author’s voice comes through clearly there. I did struggle more with the female lead’s POV and dialogue. I understand she’s meant to come across as young and bratty, but much of her dialogue felt very generic and plot-driven rather than character-driven. There’s quite a bit of telling instead of showing, which made it harder to connect with her emotionally. With just a bit more development, even one additional chapter focused on her depth, she could become far more compelling. I enjoy the brat trope, so that’s what kept me reading, but I think the dynamic would feel more believable if we saw more balance and growth from her side. Small moments of compromise or intelligence would go a long way. For example, the credit card scene could have been a real turning point, a negotiation to hint at her underlying maturity. "I'll stop smoking in the house, but what are you going to give me in return." Then have him slide the card over to her and then the whole scene makes sense and is character driven. Something like that. I’d also love to see more day-to-day interaction and observation from the male lead’s POV, noticing her habits, her contradictions, the small human moments, not just surface attraction. Right now, his level of interest feels under-motivated for such a controlled character. A bit more romantic tension, lingering looks, and internal conflict on his side would make the relationship arc feel more earned. Most of the friend dialogue also felt overly explanatory and a bit juvenile compared to how real conversations usually flow. Tightening that would help the realism. Overall, this reads like a story with a strong premise and real promise. It might be better as a third person narrative. So, with more showing, deeper character layering, and added emotional tension, it could become something very enjoyable. I hope the author receives this in the spirit intended, as encouragement and constructive feedback. Growth comes from honest responses, and there’s definitely talent here to build on."
