Chapter 1
The crown prince of the country and the next in line to be king, runs away from his huge castle.
William doesn't trust in his ability to lead a nation and feels as if he's not capable of it.
He was truly spoiled from his birth . With everything given to him and work taken care of by his servants, he was really inexperienced when it came to basic chores .
An incompetent and spoiled prince of country heading to war, he ran away from his responsibilities.
Not knowing the reality that he would see later on.
William walked on and on into the unknown. As he wandered the streets, nobody recognised him in his tattered clothes . All the people that bowed down to him when his carriage passed them by , now didn't even seem to care about his presence. For the first time in his life , he felt insignificant .
He escaped in a rush , with no money in hand or anything else of value.
He wandered the streets not even knowing what he was searching for. What did he truly want ?
Freedom ? He had plenty of it now. But unfortunately he now realised , that freedom doesn't feed your body.
His stomach growled .He got tired of his walk and sat down in a dirty corner. Looking at him now, he looked nothing more than a poor beggar.
This was the state of the crown prince that night.
It wasn't winter yet but he felt extremely cold. He heard a sweet voice call out to him and he opened his eyes to see who it belonged to.
He saw a beautiful girl with short red hair , reaching out to him .
"Are you okay?" She asked him .
Such a normal thing to say yet her words felt warm and reassuring . He felt that kindness still prevailed even in a country heading to war.
But he didn't know how to answer that voice. He didn't know if he should ask for help . Did he want to survive or not?
"Are you hungry ? " She asked him again and he couldn't ignore his growing hunger. "Will you feed me if say yes?" He questioned her instead.
She looked at him with sympathy in her eyes and said "yes! Will you come with me?".
They say it's dangerous when a stranger offers food.
Kids are told to stay away from a stranger offering candy. But does that rule apply to those who are starving?
William stood up and said " I cannot ignore my hunger any longer. Where will you take me, kind miss ?"
She didn't say a word but just chuckled sweetly and walked in front of him , leading the way.
They reached a small cottage which was connected to a farm . He didn't like animals , especially cows.
He wouldn't stay there if he had a choice, but beggars can't be choosers. They sat inside and she gave him a warm meal.
It doesn't even compare to what he usually eats yet he thought it was delicious.
He pounced on it like someone who hadn't eaten in days. After he was finished , he realised he should thank the lady .
She was preparing some mattresses, maybe for him to sleep. But he couldn't bother her any longer
He said "I'm really grateful for the meal but now I should leave"
She looked at him in surprise, "you can just stay here" she said.
" You trust me too much . You're really kind but it's also very stupid."
She frowned. " I am still a stranger. I might rob you or even worse..." He stopped.
He didn't want to say anything more than this but felt like she understood.
"Look at you right now . Do you even have the luxury to worry about me?" She sounded angry but even in her anger , she still worried about him.
" I don't care !! I just.... I don't know anymore" he felt confused again.
"Just listen to me and sleep here. I am fully capable of protecting myself. Just so you know." She replied now in a more gentle and teasing tone.
"What can you even do if someone tries to rob you? "
"Looking at this shabby cottage , I don't think anyone would." The lady had a valid point.
What would someone even steal from a house that has nothing?
But he had a different thought , he said "even this cottage has a huge treasure.." the lady looked confused.
"you ... Of course" he said while pointing towards her.
She looked really disappointed and disgusted.
"Maybe I should just throw you out" she mumbled.
He laughed and then realised something, he spoke ,"it's just a lighthearted joke ... I don't want to make you uncomfortable. I'm sorry " .
She nodded.
He was given a mattress on the floor near the lady's bed .
"That way I can keep an eye on you" she explained her reasoning.
"Wouldn't your eyes be closed when you sleep? " He asked her .
She didn't reply and just went to sleep. He sighed and also tried to sleep on the mattress on the floor.
William soon found out that it wasn't very comfortable compared to his luxurious bed at home. He kept turning around at night , trying to sleep but it wasn't so easy.
When he finally drifted off , he was soon waken up by a noise .
He opened his eyes to look at what happened and as he turned around to look at the lady....
He saw a figure in the shadows.
William only saw his back as the figure was turned towards the lady.
He stood in front of her bed and as he reached his hand towards his waist , he pulled out a sharp sword.
William could hear the sword being unsheathed slowly as his face was filled with terror . He was really confused and had many questions.
But one thing was for sure , her life was in danger.
He grabbed the persons foot and as the figure turned around to look at him, William felt a terrifying sense of danger . He felt a shiver throughout his body as he sensed the person's killing intent.
The person in the shadows turned the sword towards him and as he prepared to slash through his body...
He suddenly fainted. The figure fainted as he was about to kill the prince.
As his slowly dying body fell on the prince, he looked at the guys wounds. He had been stabbed from behind .
He looked up to see the seemingly kind lady make a cold expression.
She looked at him with warm empathy when she saved him yet now she was staring down at the dead body of a man she killed , with her beautiful yet cold eyes.
He didn't know what to do.
" There are more of them. Just stay here and don't look behind no matter what." she said with her sweet voice which now only seemed terrifying.
He trembled in fear as she slowly walked by. He did as she ordered and couldn't bring himself to turn around.
Just like when he escaped from his home , he had again turned his back on reality out of fear.
He trembled and felt scared for his life.
Even if he couldn't see it, he still realised that what was happening behind him, was a truly terrifying scene.
He heard the screams of someone begging for forgiveness, go quiet and he still couldn't decide what to do with the dead man in his arms.
