Chapter 1
On the far western tip of Ikuza Island, in a place known as Machenchema, something extraordinary was unearthed. A new kind of element—shimmering, pulsing with an energy more powerful than vibranium. Nobody knew what it was.
Scientists rushed from across the world to investigate. Some claimed the elements were fragments of dark matter, others whispered they were eternal elements, beyond science and time.
But the search for knowledge turned into tragedy. A massive Gogogo Fish, a beast said only to exist in local legends, rose from the depths and slaughtered the expedition. From that day on, Machenchema was sealed off. The elders declared:
“Death itself guards these elements. Whoever enters will never return.”
Far from Machenchema, at the Nyarugusu fishing center, life went on.
Here lived Kato, an orphan boy with a gift for fixing broken electronics. Once a university student, his dreams were shattered when money ran out, forcing him back to the island.
On a stormy afternoon, his best friend Amani shouted from outside the wooden house built on the rocky coast:
“Kato, come outside! There’s a huge Msoke brewing!” (In local tongues, Msoke is the name for the sudden storms of Lake Victoria.)
Kato, deep in repairing an old radio, groaned:
“Leave me alone, Amani! I’m busy.”
But Amani’s voice grew urgent:
“No, you must see this one—it’s not like the others. The Msoke is glowing… golden!”
Kato’s heart skipped. He rushed outside.
The lake churned in unnatural colors—golden flashes bending the horizon. Amani’s eyes widened in fear.
“No… that’s not a Msoke! That’s some—”
Before he could finish, a blinding strike hit him. His body crumpled, collapsing onto the rocky ground. His hand twitched once, then went still.
Kato screamed his name, but the golden storm swallowed the sound.
What hit Amani? What lies within the golden storm?
