Chapter 1 Medical Challenges

Brain tumor and cancer!

I feel light headed.

The white paper stabs my eyes immediately i saw my mother's name, tears welled up my eyes. Time seem to slow down, my mouth was open but words struggled to come out.

"This cannot be real." My voice broke into a million pieces. My hands fidgeting.

I slowly crashed on a nearby chair, the weights of the information i had just received was too heavy for me to keep standing.

The letter was sent from the hospital to inform me that my mom has a brain tumor and cancer.

I bury my face in my palms. The hospital was asking for this sum of $500,000 so they can begin treatment and surgery.

The problem here was that I had no money, I was in debt and my company was barely surviving. I'm a fashion designer but my career has not been going well currently.

Take a loan? No I can't, I had already mortgaged our house to support my dying business.

The hospital also informed me that i had five days to make this payment or my mother will be taken off life support which was the only thing keeping her alive at the moment.

When i got to the hospital, I saw my mother lying lifelessly on the hospital bed depending on life support to stay alive. My heart broken into a million pieces.

I felt a sharp pain on my chest, i clutched my chest with one hand, Tears welled up her eyes which made her sight blurry.

"Have you come to pay for the surgery?” Sarah asked.

Sarah is my best friend and we have been friends since we were kids, she was also helping me look after her mother in the hospital.

I bows my head in shame.

"What is wrong?"

I just stood there in silence, facing the ground, bowing my head.

"We have to find a way to raise that money and we need to do it fast, maybe you should talk to the doctor to see how he could help us." Sarah blurts.

I head directly to the doctors office, my heart was heavy with anticipation, i take a deep breath before opening the door.

"Are you here to make the payment?" The doctor says plainly, barely looking at me.

"That was what I wanted to talk to you about. " I put my hands together.

"I don't have the money now, I was wondering if there's a way you could help me, for the surgery I promise to pay every dime." I said truthfully.

"You must be a comedian or something, you can't be serious. I would advise you to make this payment as soon as possible because there has been rumors of buyout; a billionaire wants to buy the hospital; once that happens increased prices In hospital services will follow."

"I am willing to do anything." I suggested.

If the doctors sees I am willing to do even petty jobs for him until I get the money to pay maybe he might reconsider.

"You're willing to do anything?" He ask again.

"Yes.." I smile from ear to ear thinking i had found a solution.

"Well… I think there's something we can do…"

"Thank you so much sir , Whatever you want tell me I will do it."

My eyes light up, I feel a bit relieved.

The doctor slowly gets up and closes the door to his office, he also peeps from the window before closing it too.

"Well… you're a pretty young woman." the doctor slowly unzip his trouser.

"I don't understand… What do you mean?" Confusion sprawl around me

"you are not a child, You are an adult, you should be smart enough to know where this is heading. If you help me I will help you, nobody has to know." The doctor said loosening his belts.

"You pervert!" I gasp.

I leave the office immediately, banging on the door before leaving, i walk up to Sarah and told her that's all my efforts to find help was in vain.

I glance at her mother who was still on the hospital bed, a pang of sadness enveloped me, I sighs before walking away.
