The return
Keifer walked through the familiar corridors of their school, his eyes scanning the crowded hallways for a glimpse of Jay-jay. He hadn't seen her in months, and he was nervous about facing her again.
As he turned a corner, he spotted Jay-jay standing by her locker, chatting with her friends. Keifer's heart skipped a beat as he watched her laugh and smile. She looked happy, and Keifer's guilt resurfaced. He'd hurt her, left her without a word.
Keifer took a deep breath and made his way towards her, his eyes locked on hers. As he approached, Jay-jay looked up and their eyes met. For a moment, they just stared at each other, the noise of the hallway fading into the background.
"Well, well, well," Jay-jay said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Look what the wind blew in. The king of abandonment has returned."
Keifer's eyes dropped, and he felt a sting from her words. He deserved it.
"You left without a word, Keif," Jay-jay continued, her voice rising. "You just disappeared, without even a text or a call. What made you think you could just come back here and expect everything to be okay?"
Keifer looked up, meeting Jay-jay's angry gaze. "I know I messed up, Jay," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I was wrong to leave you like that."
"Wrong?" Jay-jay's laughter was bitter. "You think that's even close to what you did? You broke me, Keif. You broke us."
The hallway around them fell silent, and Keifer felt like he was drowning in Jay-jay's pain. He didn't blame her for being angry; he was angry with himself.
"I don't expect you to forgive me, Jay," Keifer said, his voice cracking. "But I hope you can find it in your heart to listen to me, to let me explain."
Jay-jay's eyes flashed with anger. "I don't want to hear your excuses, Keif. I don't want to hear anything from you right now."
Keifer and Jay-jay stood in the empty Section E classroom, the tension between them palpable. Jay-jay's eyes blazed with anger as she turned to face Keifer.
"You think you're so noble, don't you?" Jay-jay spat, her voice venomous. "You think you can just leave me without a word and then come back expecting me to forgive you? You're delusional."
Keifer took a step back, his eyes dropping under Jay-jay's glare. "I know I hurt you, Jay. I'm sorry—"
"Sorry?" Jay-jay's laughter was cold and mirthless. "You're sorry? You have no idea what I went through after you left. You have no idea how I felt."
"Jay, please—"
"No, you listen to me," Jay-jay cut him off, her voice rising. "You don't get to talk right now. You don't get to apologize and expect everything to be okay. You broke me, Keif. You broke us."
Keifer's face twisted in pain as Jay-jay's words cut deep. He deserved every bit of her anger, every bit of her hurt.
"You're just like everyone else," Jay-jay said, her voice dripping with disdain. "You only care about yourself. You only think about what you want, what you need. You never think about me, about how I feel."
"That's not true, Jay," Keifer protested, his voice shaking. "I did it to protect you. I was trying to keep you safe."
Jay-jay's eyes widened in incredulity. "Protect me? You call leaving me without a word protecting me? You call breaking my heart protecting me?"
Keifer's face crumpled, and he felt a sob rise up in his throat. He knew he'd hurt Jay-jay beyond repair. He didn't know if he could ever make things right between them.
"You're right," Keifer said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I was wrong. I don't deserve your forgiveness."
Jay-jay's expression didn't soften. "You don't deserve anything from me," she said, her voice cold and detached. "Not even my anger." With that she turned and stormed of,eaving Keifer alone, broken and shattered.
Keifer's frustration boiled over, and he slammed his fist into the glass window. The glass shattered, and a piece cut through his wrist. Blood began to flow as Keifer stumbled backward, his eyes widening in shock.
He felt a searing pain in his wrist, and his vision started to blur. Keifer's legs gave out from under him, and he slid to the floor, the sound of shattering glass still echoing in his ears.
As the blood continued to flow, Keifer's eyes drooped, and he became unconscious, slumping against the wall.
The room was silent, except for the sound of Keifer's labored breathing and the steady drip of blood hitting the floor.
