Prologue
Sarah's pov
I never told anyone I loved Dave.
Not him. Not my best friend. Not a single soul.
So it wrecked me when she looked at me one day, eyes lit up, and said she was falling for him.
I said nothing. I smiled. I watched them happen.
Nobody knew what it cost me. That was the whole point of keeping it silent — no one gets to see the wreckage if they never knew there was a fire.
Years passed. I built a life. I built walls. And then, out of nowhere, a new man walked into it — my business partner, sharp and steady and nothing like the ghost I'd buried.
For the first time in years, I let myself want something.
Then Dave walked into the same boardroom like he'd never left.
Not a memory. Not a ghost.
A permanent seat at the table I thought was finally mine.
And I have no idea how I'm supposed to build something new with one man while the one I never got over is standing three feet away, watching me do it.
