Chapter 1

‘I hate this quirk! Why must I be born with this thing?!’
The area you were at was bustling with firefighters, police officers and even some hero’s. Reporters and concerns civilians were in horror from what they were witnessing. Many believed that it was a villain attack, but other citizens that were close to this incident didn’t witness a possible villain anywhere. Some question why a villain would attack such a place; a place filled with a children.
“I rather be quirkless then live with this!”
That was when some of the civilians started to hear a girl shouting and sobbing at the top of her lungs. Why would someone say such a thing? Having a quirk has improve the lives of many, it made everyone social lives, jobs, school activity’s, much more interesting and gave their lives a whole new meaning. Someone rather wanting to be quirkless is saying they rather live a mundane depressing life.
However, as some of the civilians turn they’re heads to the loud yells and cries, they started to piece together what happen. Horror slowly flooding in everyone head. You were on your knees as your head was facing down; not looking at anyone. It’s not because you wanted to look at anyone or stand up, you couldn’t stand up at all. As the civilians eyes trail down further on your form, the horror in they’re eyes became more noticeable.
What they were looking at were multiple wires attach to your arms and legs.
“Wait...what if a villain didn’t cause this...w-what if that child cause all of this?!”
One of the civilians pointed at you, anger and fear plaster on their eyes. They then pointed at a kindergarten building, huge bundles of wires, cables, cords overflowing the whole school. Many sticking out the window and doors, many busted out through the walls and attaching to the building. Screams and agonizing groaning could be heard inside the building.
It was like a horror show.
A horror show you cause. A horrifying quirk you were blessed with. A horrifying quirk that now everyone is afraid of.
You slightly raised your head to face the crowd. Cameras flashing and reporters demanding answers from you. It was suffocating. Civilians calling you terrible names.
“I...never wanted this...to happen...”
After that, you woke up.
Sweat and heavy shaky breath were the only thing you acknowledge. You sat up as you look around, thankfully you were in your room. You sigh in relief, “It was just a nightmare.”
A nightmare you wish to forget. A nightmare you were sure you moved on from.
You looked around to find something. You would just get up already, but there was sadly a problem, an annoying problem. You leaned to the side of your bed to notice your prosthetic limbs were on the floor. You clicked your tongued in annoyance.
‘Dang it. I must’ve been thrashing while asleep.’
You turn your head to your window, you noticed the sun hasn’t risen up yet. Thank goodness you had enough time to prep yourself. However, your parents were most defiantly asleep right now. You grab the edge of your bed sheet with your mouth and attempted to roll to side to side until your blanket wrapped your body around. You then hesitantly roll off the bed. Due to your comfortable fluffy blanket, it basically broke your fall. After that you made a motion something similar to a caterpillar as you reach to your prosthetic limbs.
This kind of routine doesn’t happen often, usually your parents are the ones to put on your prosthetic limbs, and even though you appreciate how much they do for you, you’re determine to do some tricky task on your own. What’s going to be even more tricky and even challenging is that your going to attend middle school this year, a public school at that. It’s been quite a while since you went to a public school. Your parents, especially your father, were constantly concern you would get outcasted due to the type of quirk you had. They don’t want you to feel signal out from your protentional peers but they are well aware how middle schoolers are and how they treat people who may come off ‘different’ from them. Even if that’s true, you accepted a environment like that so you might as well face it head on.
As you slide out of your blanket cocoon, the first thing you did was stretch out one of your arm to the closest prosthetic forearm. You moved your body closer as you successfully slide your arm through your prosthetic forearm. You felt the sensors around the edge of the prosthetic forearm, sensing your nerves, the titanium rod-like piece and the electrodes. You did however felt your prosthetic arms move on a bit weirdly, most likely due to you thrashing all over the place on your bed while sweating.
You felt a quick sting on your arm, meaning your limb was connected. You genuinely hate this feeling, especially where you have to do this with your other limbs. However, it’s also cool to see your see through prosthetic limbs wires attaching to your arm. They were like wiggly worms to you. As you slide your other prosthetic forearm, you grabbed both your specialized gloves, arm sleeves and stockings. Just to prevent any future problems, you slide your arm sleeves and gloves on each of your prosthetic forearms. After you connected the rest of your limbs to your body as well as sliding your stockings on each leg, you slowly stand up. You did a couple of stretches to get your limbs moving more easily. After that you look through the window, the sun was slowly rising up. The once pitch black night sky slowly disappearing as it was replace with a red-orange hue. Damn even if you want to do the stuff on your own, your forget how much time it takes.
“(Y/n)! You up? Eh? (Y/n)! How long were you up? You could’ve called me or your dad to put your limbs on.”
You turn around to see your mother, already calling you out. Your mother is a middle school math teacher, but not working at the middle school your going to. The only time your mother helps you when it comes to your disability is either giving you a bath or putting your limbs on in the morning. Most of the time though she leaves you pretty much dependent. Your dad on the other hand always checking if your prosthetist are always up in good conditions, asking if you took your medications and encourage you to do daily exercises.
“Sorry mom, I didn’t wanna wake you and dad up.”
You walk past her as you head to the bathroom. Your mother sigh from your response, “You know me and your father don’t mind (Y/n). Besides, I see the sweat all over your body! You know that’s gonna cause problems you know! Hell, skin infections or worst electrocuting you (Y/n)!”
You groaned, “Mom, I’m wearing my moisture-wicking prosthetic sleeves and stockings! I’m fine!”
Your mother gives you an unimpressed gaze, “You did clean them yesterday did you?”
You flinched as you nervously turned to face her, a nervous smile creeping on your lips. Your mother let out a long groan as she push your body to the bathroom, “You’re lucky we have a clean spare one.”
After some scolding and some prepping, your mother held out your school uniform. Your mother had a warm smile on her face, she placed the uniform Infront of you. “You’re really going to be attending a public school again. After so many years being stuck in that agency, you’ll finally be around kids your age. I bet you’ll make a lot of great friends (Y/n). Maybe even become popular too. Especially with the boys!“, you both laugh from your mother comment.
“Oh stop it mom! Haha! Though, it would be nice to be popular. Just once though! Haha! Sigh...being invited to the cool kids table...every single student wanting to study with me...all my classmates wanting to give me snacks or even full crowds of people cheering for me over anything sounds like a blast!“, you exclaimed happily.
Your mother smile you warmly, she would teased from this, but just kissed you on the cheek, “I’m sure that will happen. Now, hurry up and get dress. I’m going to cook breakfast.”
You nodded as your mother leaves the bathroom. As you were left with nothing but silences, you took a good long stare of your uniform. You rubbed the fabric against your fingers, just from this alone excited you a little. You’ll be wearing this pretty much for three years and hopefully another three years when you reach high school, as long you behave well. You don’t have to go to that building every weekday and weekends to get your educations, understanding your disability and how prosthesis work, have some understanding of how to socialize, and teach you how the rest of the world works. But predominately, understand how your quirk works. It’s not like you had any bad experiences there, but it was very lonely being there. Not a single kid your age was there and you were usually around adults, mostly your professor who’s been teaching you and studying your quirk ever since you were born. Even if you were playing with the adults, it never felt right to you. You always yearn to be around people your age, you would have an easier time relating to them, able to hang out with them without some constant reminder that you have a limited time to hang out with people close to your age and all that.
You held the uniform close to you, “Today and forward, this is my new life. I’ll live a honest and fulfilling life.”
After you put on your uniform, you walked downstairs. You saw your dad watching the news as your mom was making breakfast.
Your mother noticed you, “(Y/n)! There you are! Head to the table alright?”
You nodded as you do so. You sat next to your dad who was quite focus on the tv. You leaned forward to get a better look from what he’s watching. It was a live recording of what seems to be a villain attacking a bunch of property. The villain looked like a mutant octopus who was shooting ink all over the place while swinging around it’s multiple arms. The ink getting on passing civilians, cars, stores and just making a huge mess. The civilians cry and scream, wanting to get away from this chaotic nightmare.
“Someone stop him!“, one of the civilians cried out.
What’s worst about this scene is that the octopus villain was using children that were wrapped around the tentacles as shields. Most villains you witness on tv typically do some robbery or just wish to be a nuisance to civilians and hero’s. However, there a villains that would stoop so low to the point being utter bastards. Using children as shields is the scummiest you could do. Taking advantage or harming the most vulnerable of people is what makes you a real villain.
‘That girl could’ve killed my son! Why the hell is she attending a school?!’
‘Let me teach that damn criminal a lesson!’
‘That girl is a villain!’
You gripped the edge of the kitchen table; cringing from that memory. Why do you keep getting such awful memories? Nothing bad even happen yesterday that would trigger such memories. Yesterday was quite enjoyable, there was a party celebrating you and some other kids that were about to go to a higher grade level or a new school. The atmosphere was great and wholesome, you still remembered how you cried tears of joy where everyone was congratulating you that you don’t have to go to your agency that much now. However, you also remember a conversation you had with your childhood ‘friend.’
-Flashback-
“Why you wanna attend a public school? Surely your professor not allowing you to go through that.”
“You need to have some faith on me Bane! I’m now a teen! I lost the chance being around kids when I was younger so I don’t wanna miss out on this!”
“That’s not the point (Y/n). It’s the fact that you have an unstable quirk that you still struggle to control.”
“Oh be quiet! The agency and my parents are currently finding a school with a good environment! Also, I’ve been practicing on my own for years!”
“If you think messing around in junk yards and training with the kids in this neighborhood is any help, then you’re delusion.”
-Flashback ends-
You furrowed your eyebrows, clenching on the table more harshly, “Asshole, you never bother to check how much I improved anyways...”
“Dang these hero’s suck. Where the hell is All Might at?”
Your dad voice disrupt the bad thoughts from getting worst. Your dad was ranting how mediocre the hero’s were which made you giggle, he was always such a hero nerd. Your dad was a gym teacher who worked at the same school as your mom. He wasn’t always a hero nerd but due to some of his childhood friends being major hero fanboys. However, despite your father being a good dad, he tends to scold you way more than your mother when it comes to taking care of your prothesis.
“Maybe instead fanboying about hero’s, go say hello to your daughter who’s literally next to you.
But then he can be silly a lot of the times.
Your father flinched as he snapped his focus on you now. It looked like he was about to drink a glass of water which now left some water on his shirt, which made you hold in a snicker.
“Sweetie! Good morning! You slept well?“, I nodded with a smile as you leaned onto your dad shoulder, loving cuddling him. However, this was cut shortly when your dad got up from the table quickly, almost making you fall off your chair.
Just when the Octopus villain harm a civilian, a blink before you know it figure swung a hard kick on one of the octopus villain tentacle. The child flew out of the tentacle, screaming and crying in fear, luckily they were caught by the mysterious figure.
“Is that...hey! Zoom in! Zoom in!”
The camera man zoom into the figure, they believed it was All Might, but actually turn out to be another familiar figure, a not so likeable figure but none the less. The figure had long yellow hair but mix with black on the top, they wore nothing but leather. The civilians thought another villain came to the scene just from how threating they looked, until some who were closed to the figure noticed a pair of wheels underneath the figure boots.
“Ah shit! That’s Rebel Star! I don’t even remember the last time he face a villain!”
After hearing that, you immediately got up from the table, your focus was completely glued on the tv, ignoring your mom demands to sit down.
“R-Rebel Star?! I only see him on wrestling tv!“, you were a huge fan of this hero. Despite his threating appearances, you found him a huge inspiration ever since you were a child. However, your mother and Bane always tell you not look up to an individual like him. But you just can’t help it, ever since an incident, the people around you had nothing but horror in they’re eyes which burn into your mind. You don’t want to be seen as a threat and you pray this new begging of your life will be a better start for you. That’s why you view Rebel Star in such admiration; despite his threatening appearance, there are many people who sees him as an amazing hero.
“Tv?! (Y/n) (L/n), didn’t I tell you not to watch those overly violent shows?! Especially looking up to that Rebel punk?!“, your mother scolded as she place you and your father breakfast Infront of you.
“U-uh! I-I mean...I came across a video clip of him wrestling but defiantly didn’t watch the video!“, you stuttered. You can sense your mother harsh glares and judgment from a mile away. God, you do not want your morning to be nothing but scolding.
Your mother let’s out a long sigh, “Go eat your breakfast alright?”
You nodded as you sat back down and started eating, taking quick glances at the tv; still wanting to see Rebel Star in action.
“Ah...isn’t the bastard Rebel Star. A pro hero yet rather waste his days on wrestling and being apart of biker gang. What’s the point of saving civilians when you don’t even have the government on your back?“, the Octopus villain belittle.
Rebel Star stayed quiet, yet still had that huge sharp tooth smile of his. Low vroom was heard underneath Rebel Star boots, the tires slowly getting ready to make a move. The Octopus villain clicked his tongue, walking up to Rebel Star, “Hey! You gonna talk?! The Rebel Star I know always chatting up a storm!“, however he still stayed silent.
The Octopus villain started to become enraged, “Speak damn you!“, the octopus villain throw one of his tentacles towards Rebel star and just when the scared child was going to face their upcoming demise, they felt everything stopped. The child slowly open their eyes, wondering what just happen. To their surprise, Rebel Star was holding onto the tentacle with both his arms; preventing any calamity damage. The child saw cracks on the ground, which proves how much pressure the villain was putting on Rebel Star.
You and your dad leaned in, sweat building on y’all forehead. Both of you clenching your teeth, it was like you two were sharing the same brain cell. You aren’t a big hero nerd like your dad or his friends but whenever you have the chance to watch Rebel Star in action, you can’t help but get excited and pumped. The Octopus villain clicked his tongue, he tries to put more pressure on Rebel Star which started to put a bit of stress on him, but he pushes through.
“Yelling threats and using children as your shield makes you look pathetic”, the Octopus villain furrowed his brows at him, until he came to the realization he felt nothing in his tenacles. When the hell did they escape?!
“Grabbed all the kids then kicked your ass. Maybe you should pay more closer attention. Anyways...I’m gonna kick your ass!”
Rebel Star dig his nails in the Octopus villain, slowly and harshly loosening the grip of the villain. As the child crawled out of the clutches of the tentacles and ran off as far away as they can, this gave Rebel Star the moment to finish things. Rebel Star lets go of the tentacles and drives full speed towards the villain. As he get enough speed, he did a jump and slam his tires against the villain face, sending the villain flying.
“That shit was easy, was expecting more of a challeneg-”
“Thank you Rebel Star!”
“Don’t thank the bastard! He only wanted to show up cause he actually craves attention!”
“Hah?“, Rebel Star shoot a harsh glare at the rude man, sending him and a few others shivers down they’re spins.
“Who cares! He saved our kids! Huh? Hey where you going?!”
After that, Rebel Star drove off, leaving many confused and frustrated, as if they’re not worth his time. You always wonder why Rebel Star always leaves after defeating off villains. Even if he doesn’t seem like the type that doesn’t want praise, he still deserves it. Either way, you hope one day you meet the guy in person.
“Hell yeah! Rebel Star getting another win! Quick and flashy as always!”
You stared in awe at how Rebel Star handle such a stressful situation. No one was physically harmed, there wasn’t much calamity damage and it didn’t look like any of the civilians show any signs of being traumatized.
“I wanna be like that.“, you blurt out.
Your dad and mom immediately heard that, your dad having a concern expression while your mom continued eating her breakfast; looking calm. You felt your mom ruffled up your head, you looked up to see her smiling.
“I’m sure you’ll be a great hero dear. However, if you wanna be a hero, you gotta have a good haircut!”
You laugh as you left the dinner table. You sat on the floor in front of the couch, your mom sat on the couch as she placed her legs on opposite sides of your shoulder; having you in the middle of them. Your mother started fixing up your hair.
After an hour, she gave you (Fave hair) and put a few cute butterfly hairclips on as well. Afterword’s, she fixed your face up with a bit of makeup, just some blush, lip-gloss and eyeshadow. Lastly, she spray some perfume on you and then holds out a mirror Infront of you.
“What do ya think?”
You open your eyes as a big smile grew on your lips, it was like you were staring a gorgeous celebrity. You hugged your mom happily.
“I look amazing mom! Everyone going to be astonished when they see me!”
“And if any boy comes after you, you better tell Bane to put them in they’re place!”
You laughed at your dad comment as well as your mom. After getting everything ready and just when you were about to head out, you felt your mom tap on your shoulder. You turned around to see her holding your flip phone. You sheepishly rubbed the back of your neck as you put your phone in your bag. After that you thanked your mom.
“Remember what your father always tells you (Y/n), don’t forget to take your medication and don’t push yourself! But what you should really remember...is that you now go by (Fake name) (Fake last name).”
The way your mom said it felt so ominous, it sent shivers down your spine, yet you understand where she was coming from. This is a new start and new you, so you gotta do whatever you can to not make the same mistake like last time. Yet, you can’t help that deep down, you hate this.
You nodded as you left your house. You noticed some of the neighborhood kids already leaving they’re family houses. You smiled to yourself, hoping one of these kids are going to attend the same school as you. However, due to so many already outside, you had a hard time finding who had the same uniform as you. You decided to just keep on walking to your destination until you felt tiny hands grip on your legs. You looked down to see a couple of young kids swarming around you.
You smiled brightly, “Hey everyone! Heh, you guys wishing me luck going to school? Also, what did y’all parent say touching my prothesis? It’s rude you know.“, despite sounding friendly, the kids still listen to your words as they took a step back from you.
The first one to speak was a young girl, presumably six, “Does this mean you no longer have to go to the hospital as much nowadays (Fake name)?! Does that mean you’ll teach me more of those cool dance moves?!“, you giggled at the girl overt enthusiasm.
“Well, now that I’m attending Middle School, I’m probably gonna be flooded with homework. Besides, I still need to go to the hospital on the weekends.“, some of the kids whined from your answer. “But hey! Let’s hope this upcoming weekend our neighborhood will celebrate our first week of school!“, you beamed which made the kids cheer for joy.
When it comes to celebrations from what you mention, you’re pretty positive news been already spread about you attending a public school for the first time in awhile. Everyone knows each other and always make an uninteresting topic the biggest hot topic. Most of the time celebration happen when kids gain a quirk or someone moving in the neighborhood. It’s a great neighborhood to live in and you can’t ask for more. Even if the neighborhood doesn’t have any well known hero’s here, it’s still great nonetheless. Well, actually, there is well known family living here, but that information for another time.
“Um...(Fake name).“, your focused snapped to another kid, a young boy. His cheeks were flushed and he looked nervous, you honestly believed he had a fever, “Y-you look really nice today...”
“Y-yeah! Actually, you look gorgeous even!“, another boy popped up as he exclaimed.
“No! A goddess!”
“A supermodel!”
A lot of boys were trying to one up each other which you couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
“You kids need to hurry up to school.“, you and the group heard male voice spoke up. His voice sounded a lot mature compare to any of the kids, and if you remember you had to walk to school with someone. You groaned in agony, you were hoping this person ditched you. You turned around to see the one and only four eyes bastard, Bane.
“Bane!“, you and the group yelled in unison.
“Dang it! It’s (Fake name) overprotective boyfriend! Quick! Before he starts lecturing us!“, all the boys ran off while the girls waved shyly at Bane, each of them with flush faces.
“B-boyfriend?!“, you exclaimed with a confused expression.
“Ignore them. Don’t walk off alright?”
You shoot a harsh glare at the boy as you let out a pout. Asshole started nagging at you and yet didn’t even bother to say hi or good morning? Oh wait, this is Bane you’re talking about. You and Bane are childhood ‘friends’, if you wanna call it that. You two been together ever since you two were infants. You’re not sure if you and Bane parents relationship be consider as friends or just acquaintances. They didn’t move here just because this is a positive neighborhood, but due to certain past circumstances. However, despite the both of you having a long history together, you two never got along well.
“Don’t bother talking to me Bane.“, you scowled.
“Have no choice to.”
“Well, at least don’t be around me and I’m sure you don’t want to be around me either!”
Bane rolled his eyes as he groaned, “(Y/n), I’m pretty certain you, our parents and especially the agency told you this many times. I have to be-”
“Well, forget that!“, you exclaimed.
You gave Bane a harsh look again, making eye contact with his, “I want this year to be a new start for me. A better beginning than what happen at Kindergarten. Which means...“, you pressed a finger against Bane chest, getting up in his business, ” I don’t want someone like you insulting me all the time but expect to listen to! I don’t want you constantly around me to the point people think were dating like what those boys said early! So whenever we get to this school, were strangers.“, you turned around and run off.
Bane ran after you, “Oi! Your limbs are gonna act up and it’s gonna make you trip!“, you shoot a glare at the boy, you were certain he was just messing with you.
“Shut up! You and your stupid ass-ah.“, instantly you felt a sharp throbbed all over your limbs, making you fall face first to the hard ground.
Bane let out a frustrated sigh, “Stupid.”
After awhile of patching up and Bane cleaning your crying messy face, you two went back to walking to y’all destination. Sadly, Bane had to carry you on his back and also your now perfect makeup is completely ruin.
“So, explain to me (Y/n) why did a Phantom limb trigger happen.“, Bane asked
You flinched, “I-I-m not telling you!”
“Well, at some point you have to. You know how the professor is as well as your parents get when stuff like this happen. It’s already concerning that it’s happening this early in the morning.”
You grumbled from Bane words, but deep down you knew he was right, even if you don’t wish to admit it. You sigh, “Well, I moved around a lot which could’ve cause some mix up with my nerves and spinal cord...the reason why cause my prothesis were on the floor so maybe that’s why...but Phantom limb pain is still being researched about Bane!”
“Well, even if that stuff still being researched about, you should’ve ask your freaking parents!”
You pouted, “I just wanted to be a bit more dependent that’s all...“, you grumbled.
Bane clicked his tongue, “Dependent my ass. Stop asking your dad to take you to go see Rebel Star motorcycle race all the time then.”
You flushed in embarrassment, “S-Shut it! I’m getting off of you!”
“You still feeling throb on your limbs?”
“...yes.”
After more bickering, you two finally got to your destination. Luckily this time, your throbbing pain ended which meant you could finally get off from Bane back. Well, despite this morning starting off a bit rocky, at least now you won’t attract any weird stares. While you were looking around to find any potential friends, Bane was cautious about his surroundings. Any of these students could be potential villains. However, Bane has not yet realized that many female students were giving him a long awe gaze, as if they were staring at the most handsome human being on earth. This just made Bane a bit paranoid. He would use his quirk right now, but there’s too many people.
“U-um, are you new here?”
(Y/n) bend backwards a little, she saw a cute girl now walking next to Bane. She was giving him quite the shy glances while her cheeks had a light shade of pink. Immediately, two and two came together, immediately two and two came together in (Y/n) head, this girl has a thing for Bane. You hate to admit it, but Bane is quite attractive. The way his bret gold square glasses matches with his royal purple orbs and low petal bun is something that would attract a couple of people. Either way, just cause he has a good face and comes off the mysterious character type, doesn’t mean he has a good personality!
Bane hasn’t even acknowledge the girl yet, instead he placed his hand on your shoulder, pushing you forward slightly.
“Let’s hurry inside. Too many people her-”
You stopped him by shoving his hand off as you gave him annoyed look. Without saying anything, you pointed to the shy girl, making the girl jumped. Even if you didn’t say anything your expression say ‘Someone wants to talk to you! Don’t focus on me!’ Bane looked to his left side as he finally noticed the girl, he gave her a long stare, making the girl a bit nervous.
“Is there something you want?”
‘Idiot! Why would you say that?!’, you scream internally.
“Oh! Um...I..uh...it’s just I saw you and I guess I didn’t realized I was walking next to you...“, the shy girl stuttered.
‘Poor girl...Bane tone must be making her nervous...I gotta introduce this boy to some shoujo manga and shows with a focus of romance...’, you nod to yourself.
“Well if that’s all you have to say then goodbye. Come on (Y/n).“, Bane grabbed your hand but you instantly let go of him. You had an upset look while not looking at him, “Learn how to talk to girls first and maybe try to make some friends!“, after that you ran deeper in the sea of students before Bane could grab you again. Bane looked at the sea of students with a baffled look, “What the heck?“, completely forgetting the girl next to him feeling heartbroken. While running to your classroom, you couldn’t help but feel frustrated. Does Bane have no social skills at all?! How can he be so blunt to someone like that?!
‘God, did Bane heard a thing I said?! He doesn’t need to seriously act like my bodyguard! Were in a public school! Besides, this school doesn’t even know our real identity’s so what’s the point being all cautious?!’
-Flashback-
“Due to your daughter quirk being unstable still, Bane will be attending the same middle school as her.”
“Eh? Wait, but Bane apart of an elite family. Be pretty unfair to ripe him off from highly recommended schools. “, your father was speaking to someone, possibly your professor. You were outside the office, waiting in the hallway. Your mother was with you, trying to give you some company.
Your professor shook his head, “True, true, but (Y/n) hasn’t fully figured out how to control her quirk. Also, due to (Y/n) open minded, outgoing personality, something like that would draw too much attention. Besides, Bane parents accepted this request anyways.“, the professor explained.
“Will the school know about (Y/n) and Bane identity and...the incident...“, your dad asked.
“Nope, were creating a completely fake identity for your daughter and Bane. It’ll be like no one knew she even existed.”
-Flashback ends-
You clenched your hands from that memory. You can’t stand Bane, but you can’t help but feel guilty. The fact someone like Bane who is born from a well known elite family being force to go to some average middle school when there millions of prestigious school recommending him makes you feel terrible. He shouldn’t waste his time in a place like this.
‘He shouldn’t waste his time on me especially...’, you thought to yourself. You felt tears building up but instantly wiped them off, ‘I need to do everything I can to control my quirk so Bane doesn’t have to protect me anymore...and maybe, just maybe, he can finally go to a prestigious school too.’
As you got to your homeroom class, you were shocked that there wasn’t that many students here. There were only a few but you didn’t recognized any of them. However, there was a student sitting at the front nearby the windows and you couldn’t help but noticed his crazy mad-scientist like hairdo. He seemed quite bored, staring at the cheery blossom through the window. You sat next to him, he seemed like an interesting character to talk to.
“Hey! My name is (Y/-(Fake name)!“, shit you almost said your real name!
The mad scientist boy turned his head around slightly. He looked uninterested by you, but you couldn’t tell due to the very noticeable eye bags. Jeez, now he really looks like a mad scientist. Yet that wasn’t the case at all. For some reason, you look oddly familiar to the boy, but he can’t put his finger on it.
“Hey.“, He said with a monotone voice.
You made a bit of awkward smile, now not sure what to say back, despite being a talkative person. But even if this guy doesn’t seem interested in talking to you, you still want to gain a good relationship with your fellow classmates.
“What’s your name?“, you asked.
“Shinso.“, he answered.
“Hey Shinso! Again, the name (Fake name)! I hope we be great friends!“, you chirped.
Shinso simply nodded as he went back staring at the cherry blossoms again.
‘He’s so distant...’
“Uh...I like your haircut! Gives off a mad scientist kind of vibe!”
You didn’t notice it, but Shinso flinched from your comment. Mad scientist, huh? Types like those usually seen or come off as a villain. He never liked being consider as one, but he can’t blame you or the people around him that view him that way. However, he isn’t sure if he ever met you before or if you know what his quirk is.
Shinso turned his body around, his gaze now locked into you, “Oh really?”
You nodded with a bright smile, just glad that you now caught his attention, “Definitely! But it’s like a cool unique look!”
Shinso raised his brow, ’Cool?’, he thought to himself. Never once in his life anyone consider his physical look cool. Most of the time people find Shinso appearance imitating and ominous, as if he’s going to put you through the worst psychology torture in your life. Yet you, a girl he just met, isn’t even a bit freaked out by his appearance. Do you watch a bunch of horror movies where you became desensitized?
Shinso chuckled, “Cool huh? Most of the time people get terrified my looks, especially my quirk.”
You perked up after hearing that. There someone else who has a terrifying quirk too? Well you’re pretty certain there are people with terrifying quirks, but you have yet to see anyone here show them off. Perhaps their scared showing their quirk cause it’ll scare people away or label them as a threat. You easily relate and sympathies to those kinds of people. If only they had some safe space to show off their quirk so people don’t view them in a negative light and maybe you’ll finally feel your part of a community for once. But now sadly, it feels impossible. People prefer quirks that are quick and flashy, not quirks that can cause bodily harm and mass destruction. But now, maybe there’s hope, maybe now the person in front of you will understand your struggles and even internalized hatred of having such a quirk.
“What’s your quirk? Do you breath fire out of your mouth or something?”
Shinso glanced away, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly, “You really wanna know what it is?”
Just when you were about to respond, some figure got between you two. You looked up to see none other than Bane.
And the only thing written on his face was pure frustration.
Bane noticed you cover your eyes quickly with your hands. You could already feel the boy glaring daggers on you even more.
“That’s my seat.”
Shinso raised an eyebrow at Bane, he assumes you two have some messy toxic relationship going on or something. He would intervened, but that would cause a scene and there’s already more students coming in.
“This is my seat! Go sit somewhere else!“, you demanded.
“Some of the students are staring at us. Just move already.“, Bane demanded back, much more harshly than yours.
You flinched when you heard that. You look from behind as you held up both your middle and index finger. You noticed couple of students were giving you and Bane curious looks. You felt your face warmed up from embarrassment. It would be best to change seats, but you want to get to know your fellow classmate! You shouldn’t let this asshat stop you! But...knowing how stubborn Bane is, you really don’t want to spend these remaining minutes arguing with this guy. You let out a sigh, you grabbed your things, got up and sat on the empty seat next to your taken seat. The classmates that witness this felt sorry for you, some already thinking about finding ways to comfort you.
“You know, bullying your own classmates doesn’t leave a a good impression on you. Perhaps apology?“, Shinso whisper to Bane, but Bane doesn’t seem to listen to him. At first Shinso thought Bane didn’t hear him, but he’s pretty sure he said it loud enough for only him to hear.
Shinso leaned in closer, “Hey, you hear me-”
“Alright class! Hello! I’m your homeroom teacher for this semester!”
Shinso went back to his appropriate position when the teacher arrived. He glanced at Bane, he was listening to the teacher but something in Shinso chest made him wish to jump on this kid. Maybe because he treated you or how he was ignoring him.
Either way, he’s not going to like this guy.
“Alright, now that I’m done introducing myself, how about each and one of you stand up and say your name!”
The first person to stand up was Shinso, “Hello, I’m Shinso.“, he said with a monotone voice.
“Uh, haha, ok not much of talker I guess. Hmm, it say your quirk is...oh wow...brainwashing!”
The class gasped in awe when they heard that. Some amazed while some were terrified; already knowing who not to mess with. Shinso bit the lower part of his lip; he can already feel some of sea of uncomfortable stares he was getting.
Meanwhile, you were staring at Shinso in admiration, ‘He could take care of villains easily with that quirk.’, you thought to yourself.
If you had that kind of quirk, life would be so much easier. You wouldn’t be accidently freaking people out or causing calamity damage. Hell, you would’ve enjoyed your years in Kindergarten and Elementary School too. Sadly, you were blessed with an unstable quirk that you still don’t understand how to control.
“Excuse me!”
You flinched as you looked up to see the teacher. He looked impatient which you blushed in embarrassment. You stand up as you introduced yourself, “Uh...hi! My name is (Fake name) (Fake Last Name) and I enjoy dancing and my favorite food is (Fave food). It’s nice to meet everyone!“, you stuttered your words but you made your voice loud and clear.
“Well thank god we got a talkative one here. Hm...what’s your quirk...”
You flinched when you heard that. You pray the agency changed this too. Well, it should be different right? You are going by a different identity so it must be different! Even if the name of your quirk doesn’t sound interesting, surely someone in this school going to be curious how your quirk works. Either way, hopefully it’s something different and a cool one at that. And if not...well at least that’ll give you the chance to be a bit more honest about yourself.
“Ah...you don’t have a quirk.”
“Excuse me?!“, you yelled out loud.
The whole class jumped from your sudden outburst. You realized what you did as you took a quick inhale and exhale, “I-I mean...yep! That’s correct haha...”
You sat back down, lowered your head down; feeling embarrassed after hearing that. You could hear some of the student around you snicker, making you even more embarrassed. Great, first you fell on your face, make up ruin and now everyone believes your quirk less. Could’ve the agency give them a boring quirk?! Like able to change the channel at will or turning your fingers into pencil lead?!
The rest of the class period went pretty normal. You and Bane didn’t spoke a single word to each other and just listen to the teacher procedures, well you tried to listen as much as you can. However, a certain someone was thinking about you and Bane, wondering what kind of person you and Bane are.
Right now it was passing period and if you remember, you and Bane practically have all classes together. What a surprise. But that shouldn’t be important, what’s important now is that you have questions to be answered. Luckily, you know someone who may have the answers.
Bane felt something wrapped around his arm tightly. He looked behind him to see you. He noticed your eyes were close again, which annoyed him but he shrugged it off, ‘Didn’t she say she doesn’t want me around or something?’
“Yo!”
“What do you want? We gotta hurry up to our next class.”
“I know but it’ll be quick! Do you know why the agency decided why I should be quirk l-mmph?!“, Bane covered your mouth with his hand.
“Idiot! Don’t ask that stuff in public! Have you already forgotten what the professor said? God, for someone that’s been around a damn genius through out her whole life, you’re still a damn moron.”
You grit your teeth and clenched your hands; god you wanna punch him sometimes. You were going to ask again until you felt someone whole body shove you to the side.
“Move it quirk less! Yo Clerk! Is that really your quirk?“, a random boy came up to Bane while all up on his face.
“Excuse me?”
“Me too!“, suddenly a random girl popped in front of Bane view.
“Me three! Try your quirk on me! It won’t take long right?”
All of a sudden, lots of you and Bane classmates were circling all around him. You blinked a few times from this, trying to gather your thoughts.
‘I-It’s barely been a day and he’s already popular?!’
At first you thought he brought up his family, but knowing the type of character Bane is, he’s not the type to brag. You sigh and just when you about to leave the classroom, you overheard a couple of students talking to Shinso.
“Yoo, Shinso, right? That brainwashing quirk sounds pretty impressive! Heh, you could get a lot of chicks with that quirk!”
“Nah, he should use that quirk to get expensive stuff for free!”
“I just hope he doesn’t use his quirk on us!”
“Honestly, I bet a lot of villains would love to have your quirk Shinso!”
The group joked and laughed about Shinso quirk. It wasn’t like they were making fun of him or anything, but Shinso couldn’t help that at some level, they were afraid of him.
Most of the day was pretty sad. Every single one of your classmates in all your classes believed your quirk less and you’ve been nothing but the butt of the joke. What’s worst is that there wasn’t a single person who was quirk less either. But why are you the butt of the joke? Why does being quirk less matter? If you remember, before the age of four, kids don’t have a quirk, so they experience what it’s like being quirk less, even if it was a short amount of time. People who had quirks treated young quirk less kids with respect and yet people all around you treat you like a loser. But you’re not a loser! You’re a person! You have a lot of good quality’s that you believed is consider likeable! You should be treated like everyone else!
You sigh, “I already wanna go home...”
As you got outside, you lay your back against the tree as you slide down to the ground. Bane would be here, but he’s been dragged by a couple of guys to the cafeteria. At least the guy found some friends.
“Hey.”
You jumped, looked around as to whoever voice that was. You noticed a figure on your right, you looked up to see Shinso.
“Ah, hey. Shinso, right?”
“Yeah.“, Shinso sat next to you as he looked directly at you. Despite having a bored expression, you felt tension surrounding this guy and it felt overwhelming to you. You gulped as you spoke up to break the silence.
“So, uh, how’s this first day going for y-”
“Your not quirk less, are you?”
Your eyes widen when you heard that. Does this boy have a second quirk or something?!
“...What were you and that Clerk guy talking about?”
Is he referring to Bane fake name? Hope so since you spaced out when Bane presented himself. Your body was starting to tense up. Crap, you got so caught up bothering Bane you completely forgotten that Shinso is literally sitting closed to you two! Oh god, what about the students that were behind you and Bane?! Did they hear?!
You stayed silent. Not only because your trying to think your next words carefully but also how does Shinso quirk work? The teacher said his quirk is brainwashing but how does he activate it? Does he just look at the person and the effective person does whatever he say? Does he touch the person? Quirks aren’t just simple they’re like cooking and serving fish, specifically a five star fish meal. You have to know what kind of fish you are cooking, the right ingredients, the cutting style and who knows if the fish is going to be fried, broil, etc and much more that you have to pay close attention to understand and get it right.
You just kept your mouth shut, you don’t wish to fuck up even more than you already did. Shinso kept his gaze on you, did you figure out his quirk? But he hasn’t revel his quirk to anyone. Perhaps your someone he knew back in Kindergarten or Elementary who witness his quirk, but then why can’t he barely remember who you are? Either way, he’s not backing out yet.
Shinso smirk, “I guess I’m wrong. You look shaken up so maybe your quirk makes you lose your voice. Honestly, that’s more depressing than being quirk less. Maybe this is for the best, huh?”
“Oh shut i-!“, shit, you and your big mouth.
Your eyes went pure white as your body went numb. It was like you became a corpse. What the hell is going on? Is this how his quirk works? But when did he activate it? All I did was barked back! You could still hear your thoughts, but why the hell can’t you move your body? Or maybe your prosthesis are malfunctioning? But you haven’t moved around that rapidly or sweat! Are you somehow activating your quirk? But you’re still wearing your prosthesis liners!
“Revel your quirk.”
You felt your hand move on it’s own. Damnit, there has to be a way to snap out of this! You are not risking destroying this school on your first day!
Shinso raised one of his eyebrows. A few guesses were going around his head, the way you’re doing this left vague answers to him. Your hand was moving all over the place as if it was trying to find something underneath the ground. After five minutes of awkward silent and nothing, Shinso deactivated his quirk.
You let out a heavy, shaky breath. Sweat trickling down your face. Your body was trembling and you felt your prosthesis limbs starting to actually malfunction this time.
“I couldn’t tell what you were trying to do. Maybe you are quirk less after all.”
Shinso hated the fact that he had to force his quirk on some random student, especially to someone whose been nice to him, but you came off way too suspicious ever since your outburst as well as you and Bane small bickering. Just when Shinso was about to leave, you spoked up, “How did you felt when those students talked about you’re quirk?”
Shinso furrowed his eyebrows at you. You wanted to get to the bottom of things, see if someone has the same level of struggle when it comes to having a terrifying quirk. The way the students joked about his quirk was less friendly banter and more cautious and nervous. It was like they were trying to get on his good side so they don’t become a possible target.
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“I overheard that some students believed your quirk would work if you just forcefully use it on people or...what a villain would have...“, you answered.
Shinso started become annoyed, “Ok and? What? You agree to them or something?”
“I don’t, not even the sightless. Actually, I bet you find it frustrating. Being viewed like that. People just believing you’ll use your quirks just for crimes...I can relate to that a lot.”
Shinso gave you an confused look, but chuckled from your comment, “You can relate? Please, you’re quirk less.”
You were hesitant; choosing your next words carefully. This is bad, really bad. Shinso now finds you and Bane suspicious people. Even if he’s just one person, information can still be easily leaked. Should you tell Shinso the truth or make up some lie? You weren’t entirely sure, you want to get out of this situation, but you don’t want to live a whole lie even more than you already do. Just when you were about to speak, you noticed a familiar figure coming up to you.
It was Bane and you just had to make eye contact with him.
When Bane made eye contact with you, his expression immediately turn into pure anger as he started running up to you. The group of guys that were surrounding him gave him a confused look.
“Yo, Clerk! You good?!“, one of the boys shouted.
When Bane got up to you, he grabbed your hand and pull you off the ground. You glanced away from his hard suffocating gaze. Just when Bane was about to drag you away, Shinso grabbed his arm.
“I was talking to her.“, Shinso said with a glare.
Bane just gave Shinso a harsh glare, making the purple hair boy click his tongue, “What is up with you? Are you siblings or something? Though pretty sad a brother would treat his own sis so poorly.”
Bane didn’t answer him, instead shove Shinso off of him. He may not be saying anything, but his enraged expressions say it all, ‘You’re not involved. Stay out of our business.’ The two stayed quiet until Bane turned around and walked off, still holding your hand.
Bane’s friend group peeked behind the tree, questions and confusions swarming around the group.
Bane dragged you behind the school building. You laid your back against the wall. Bane was gripping his arms, mumbling a bunch of hard to tell words while pacing back and forth. It was awkward silent between you two, you try to speak up but Bane interrupted you.
“How much did you tell him?“, he demanded.
“I didn’t tell him anything...we just talked...“, you mumbled.
“Nah y’all weren’t! You were going to reveal your quirk!”
You flinched, but nodded. Bane let out a frustrated groan as he pinched the bridge of his nose.
“(Y/n). Look at me.”
You slowly turned your head to face Bane. His expression looked calmed, yet you could tell he was furious internally.
“What did you two talked about and why were you about to reveal your quirk?”
You shifted your feet nervously, “Shinso overheard what were bickering about but I don’t think he heard the whole thing. He got suspicious and believe I’m not actually quirk less. He...then used his quirk on m-”
“He what?! I swear when I go to the agency, they better do everything they can to kick that k-”
“B-But nothing happen! I had my gloves on so nothing happen. I think he needs to be really specific to activate his quirk, but that’s just a guess...but anyways. I suddenly asked how he felt when people talked about his quirk and comparing to what a villain would have.“, you glanced away from Bane unintentionally, tears slowly building up in your eyes, “Even though he didn’t answer...I related to him in a way.”
“Except Shinso has a controllable quirk. You don’t”
“But that’s not my point. The-”
“That is the point (Y/n)! What? Just cause some boy you barely know has a sorta creepy quirk and people are freaked out by it?! Be for real (Y/n)!“, Bane exclaimed.
You grit your teeth as you clenched your fist, “Can you just listen to me?! The reason I relate to him because people aren’t just freaked out by his quirk, they’re afraid of him! I mean, what kind of person would say ‘You’re quirk is suited for a villain!’ who say that to a person?! They don’t know a single thing about him and yet already paranoid that he’s gonna hurt them or commit some felony! Isn’t that ridiculous?!“, you try to wipe the tears off your face, but soon gave up. “The fact every single one of these damn student’s won’t see him more of a person and just a threat is painful!“, you exclaimed.
Bane stayed quiet, “It’s just like what happen in Kindergarten and my old neighborhood...I just want a chance! I want a new start of my life! I want to live a fulfilling and honest life! I want people to view me just like every other person! I-I d-don’t want people t-to view me as some walking terror! Never again!”
“And you can live a fulfilling li-”
“Then why am I listed without a quirk? Do we have to go by fake names or fake quirks?”
Bane stayed quiet for a bit, but spoked up, “Because the agency can’t risk any information being leaked out. The incident that happen is still fresh to many people across Japan. Hell, no matter how much the government tries to hide all information about yourself and your quirk, there always some bastard bringing it up in some news article or on news broadcast. And knowing how teenagers act, your quirk can get easily leaked and you’ll be an easy target for villains again. Hell, even if I, someone who’s family work behind the scenes, could be a target too. You should know all of this stuff by now (Y/n), I don’t know why you keep asking that...”
Tears continue flowing down your face uncontrollable, you clenched your skirt tightly, “I hate this. I hate everything about this. What’s even the point of me attending a public school or living in a new neighborhood if I can’t even reveal my honest identity...”
You shoot a harsh glare at Bane.
“But so be it. I’m gonna live an honest life. Whatever going to happen to me, I’m going to accept it, even if it’s the consequences of my actions! Whatever going to happen to me later on in life, I’ll take it all in until I reach to the point in life no one’s afraid of me ever again!”
