I Married His Brother—Now He Regrets It

Summary

Chase thought I was a stutterer and never let me into his circle. At a friends' gathering, his buddy teased, "How do you even fight with a stutterer?" His best friend laughed and said, "One sentence takes three minutes to get out—total airhead. Last time she couldn't finish talking and almost cried in frustration." Everyone roared with laughter. "Guess you're never gonna make her your girlfriend officially, huh?" Chase shrugged indifferently. "She's basically mute. I'll dump her when I get bored." Later, I showed up at the banquet with his older brother on my arm. Fluent as could be. Chase grabbed my wrist, demanding sharply, "When did you get better?" The man beside me wrapped an arm around my waist and smiled. "Sorry to burst your bubble—she's always been pretty sharp with a comeback."

Chapter 1

I rushed into the bar in a downpour, and the vibe inside was electric.

Amid the crowd’s catcalls, Chase Frost held Lindsey Shaw’s chin and kissed her with a grin.

Lindsey and Chase had grown up together. She was sobbing, her eyes red and puffy like a wronged doll.

Chase’s eyes darkened. “Not gonna run anymore?”

She shook her head through sniffles. “No... just please stop picking on me.”

“Good girl. Drink this, and I’ll leave you alone.”

I froze in place, forgetting to push the door open.

A dull ache spread slowly in my chest, like a bed of tiny silver needles pricking at me.

I’d been with Chase for three years, but he thought my stutter was embarrassing and refused to introduce me to his friends.

Yet Lindsey—who’d abandoned a down-and-out Chase and fled abroad years ago—had just returned, and Chase was already showing her off to everyone.

Lindsey knocked back a shot of hard liquor, clearly drunk.

She clung helplessly to Chase’s neck, looking utterly defenseless.

Chase’s eyes burned with possessiveness.

Before things could get worse, I pushed the door open.
