Chapter 1
I was woken up abruptly by pain—like being pricked by countless needles, forcing a hint of pheromone out of me. It smelled like peaches, sweet and distinct. I carefully lifted the bed curtain, sighed in relief when I saw the dorm was empty, then stumbled out of bed and quickly injected a dose of suppressant into my arm.
Good thing my other three Alpha roommates weren’t around. Otherwise, my secondary differentiation into an Omega would’ve been exposed. Thinking about this mess only made me more annoyed.
As I waited for the pain to subside, the dorm door creaked open. I spun around in a panic and saw my roommate, Shane Porter, walking in with his jacket slung over his arm. Why was Shane back so early? I hastily hid the empty syringe behind my back, trying to pretend nothing was wrong and greet him— but suddenly, Shane paused.
My heart leaped into my throat as he lifted his eyes and glanced at me coolly. “Leo Harrison, do you smell Omega pheromones?”
“You... you must be mistaken,” I stammered. “There’s no Omega in our dorm—just me, a Beta, and you three Alphas.”
“Is that so?”
“Y-yes,” I replied, forcing an obedient smile.
Shane said nothing. His narrow, dark eyes raked over me, sharp with scrutiny. Just when I thought he’d bought it, he stepped straight toward me. I stumbled back two steps, only to be cornered against my bed. He must’ve just come from a basketball game—there was a faint scent of sweat on him, but beneath it was the crisp, woody aroma of fir pheromone. The lingering pain in my body vanished instantly, replaced by a strange comfort.
The suppressant hadn’t even kicked in yet, but a tiny whiff of Shane’s unintentionally released pheromone had already fixed me. I was secretly shocked—then Shane sniffed lightly. “Leo, that pheromone smells like it’s coming from you. Peach-scented.”
