First and Last Chapter
Today is my first job as a secret cameraman. You know, usually cameramans pops out of somewhere and ask questions but I'm not I just hide and take pictures my bosses are write the new.
İn our little town we dont have any media only a big television at the center of town. I'm growing up while watch the town's news from there. There's a old guy who is Great Boss and director of the Big Television cameras always show us how happy and peacefull our town is...That's why I want to be a worker of this man he's a good guy!
Well...
Uh, The boss of Big Television passed away... This morning. His son took his place, and they were changing everything in this building outside the city. The boss's son was even throwing the photos from his own father's old office into the trash cans.
"You from there! Are you know your damned job?"
"Yes sir"
"Look, you have to give me news public would be crazy about it, understood?"
"Understood, sir"
"Now get out of my office and start your job"
Then he throws trash can at me for a moment camera is about the fall cold ground
"Worker, put this trash can outside!"
"İt's not my job!"
"I'M YOUR BOSS, DO YOUR JOB!"
"But it's not my job what I'm have to do"
"Then Maybe I'm have to fired you"
"Okay sir, I'm gonna put trash can outside"
I walked out of the office with my head bowed. It was quite difficult with the giant camera under my arm and a trash can in my arms. It was a bit of a dishonorable move, but...I wanted this job, nothing more, so I'd have to put up with it...I guess. As I was going down the stairs, I ran into a young woman around my age
"Hello, ma'am"
"Greetings to you, Are you new cameraman or...Janitor?"
I recognized this woman from her voice, she was the radio anchor of this town...Frankly, she seemed like a nice person.
"New cameraman! I'm the new cameraman, thanks for your kind greeting"
"İt's nice to meet you ma'am would like drink something after the day?"
Radio anchor pauses for a moment then reply me with a kind smile on her face
"Of course...See you later then, sir"
"See you later!"
She passes me after she replied my question. Then I leave the building goes back to my town. Well, I didn't think this would be so...Open. I dont know I'm hang around with a big camera on my arms and no one notices me! İn our town there's Black and white people, There are places of worship for more than one religion here, such as mosques and churches but we dont have a problem with all because all of us are humans its what matters, right?
I wandered around the whole town with my camera I named it Little Timmy because why not? Yes...Everyone is everywhere kids are play outside and old people waits Big Television for watch the town's news. I takes videos of some butterflies and kittens town is quiet and now its almost evening and I can even heard my new boss voices in my mind...İt's like something like this "Record anything worth for watch it, you—" sorry I cant say another because well, it has lot of curses. But I think I would like to watch little stray kittens play with their siblings all day. When I'm a kid, Big Television always shows us stray animals
Finally I just take pictures of a guy with a moustache and a hat.
After that day everyone were wearing that hat what that guy from yesterday. On the Big Television its written "New Trend!!!" . Well, its gonna be a easy job!
I start take pictures of a group of teenager boys with those hats. Well you can say their race is all different and when you heard their words you can understood they all have diffrerent religion. I wanted give them pocket money for school but they rejected it. Well, I still have my money in my pocket. I look up the Big Television after Little Timmy sends the photos straight of there, headline was that..."Boring and old trend still standing? Ugh" some people who wear that hat is genuenly offended and they're all takes off their hat. When the boys saw their photos on the TV and read the headline, they pulled their scarves up to their noses and the hoods of their coats over their heads, hiding their faces... But I didn't want to do that!
I sighed and continued walking around town. Then I saw a couple who looked like they were newly engaged (they were young and both had engagement rings on their fingers). The man was white and the woman was black. They looked very happy, so I took their picture. When it was transmitted from Little Timmy to Big Television, Headline this time said, "Eww, Disgusting! Get a room!" Passersby saw this and looked at the couple.
The young couple was instantly embarrassed by the way others were looking at them. The man put his arm around his fiancée's shoulders, pulled her close, and the two of them walked away, exchanging some words.
"I'm sorry, I just thought you two looked good together!"
I called after the couple, but they didn't hear me. Then I continued walking around. There was a black man fighting with an Asian man. The Asian man was trying to back away, but the other man wouldn't let him go. I thought nothing would happen, so I took a video of them. Although it would have been better if I had separated them... Anyway. As I was walking back, a news headline on Big TV written, "Black people are bothering everyone!"
After about a few months, the town seemed a bit chaotic. Everyone glared at those who didn't share their religious beliefs or have their race, everyone seemed to be insulting each other. But my boss loved that I showed the fights on the TV. On the other hand, radio anchor, my current fiancée, was very uncomfortable with me getting into the chaos and just filming it. She was right... But it was my job. So I did everything I could to avoid getting into an argument with her. The more I filmed the chaos, the angrier people became, and racism and discrimination suddenly reached their peak. Bullying was visible at the exit of every school, and teachers weren't doing anything because they favored students based on their religious and racial differences. I wasn't doing anything either... I had a camera... What could I do?
A few months later, I got married. But now, people in town were afraid to go out alone; everyone was always fighting and in chaos. You know that young couple I saw a few years ago? They were protesting this. The black man who usually started fights went to them. After the three of them talked, the belligerent man probably became friends with them, and they started chatting and laughing. I recorded them. The only thing that had appeared on Big TV was "Give the people what they want to see. Who wants to see a bunch of losers?" So I started recording a group of people arguing nearby... Hey, this... Those were the teenagers I photographed a few years ago, and they'd grown up... I wish they hadn't grown up and remained good friends.
Anger was rising in town. I'd woken up countless times to the sounds of fighting outside. It seemed like the slightest mistake could ignite the whole thing. Those protesters were still protesting this discrimination. That black man, who used to be belligerent, was doing his best to resolve the issues between the two sides when there was a fight, but the man was happy... I was assigned to film the chaos again. Years ago, I saw that man with the hat and mustache in the middle of the street. He pulled a gun on that black man. Since it was dismissal time for the surrounding schools, all the adults around did their logical best to run towards the school exit gate to protect the students. The protesters were terrified for their friends, but they were far away, and the mustachioed man was glaring at them... I was the only one who could intervene. I was too close to the scene. Instead of recording with my camera, I should have just picked up the camera and hit him in the head... None of this would have happened. The town went into a rage when the mustachioed man shot that black man, as if killing was allowed!
“Just so you know, I’m divorcing you!”
My wife had told me this in anger; the chaos was over, but the death toll was almost equivalent to more than half of the town. Maybe if I had hit that mustached man with that camera that day and prevented it, everyone would have seen that Big TV stood by peace, and they would have calmed down… Maybe none of this would have happened…
“Why are you divorcing me? We have a wonderful life, I support you in everything, I spend time with you, we live in a good house, and I am a talented cameraman—”
“You’re a CAMERA, not a cameraman anymore. There’s a difference between recording what’s happening and recording what’s happening with a camera.”
“But it wasn’t my fault people in the town became this chaotic!”
“It was never the people… Don’t you see?”
.

.
After my divorce with love of my life, I saw the nearby cemetery. That couple...they were standing there, right, at a tombstone...
True
İt was never people but the Media.
