The Night She Died

The rain came without warning. It fell hard against the palace roof, washing away the last traces of sunlight. Inside, the grand hall still glowed with golden light, laughter, and wine. Everyone was celebrating the queen’s love a love that was already dying.

Lucy stood by the window, her wedding gown heavy with jewels and sorrow. She looked out into the storm and wished she could disappear into it. The crown on her head felt colder than ice.

Behind her, the man she loved Prince Adrian was laughing with another woman.

His hand lingered too long on Lady Annabel’s waist, and though the music played louder, Lucy could still hear her own heart breaking.

She tried to smile. Queens were not meant to cry.

But even queens could bleed.

“Your Majesty,” whispered Lucia, her maid and closest friend. “It’s time for the toast.”

Lucy turned, forcing a smile. “Let them toast to lies,” she said softly. “At least lies can make a good story.”

She stepped forward, lifting her cup high.

“To love,” she said. Her voice trembled, but no one noticed. “To promises that last forever.”

Adrian smiled, beautiful and cruel. “To love,” he replied, and kissed Annabel’s hand in front of everyone.

That was when something inside Lucy cracked. She lowered her cup, her fingers trembling. The world blurred. The laughter around her became distant, as if she were sinking underwater.

Later that night, she found Adrian in the rose garden, the same place where he had promised her forever. But now, his lips carried Annabel’s scent

“Why?” she asked. “Why her? Why now?”

Adrian didn’t answer. His eyes were cold.

“It was never meant to be you,” he said.

Something in the sky broke open thunder rolled, the moon turned red, and Lucy’s scream echoed through the garden.

When guards rushed in, they found her lying among the roses, her wedding veil stained crimson.

But before her last breath, she whispered a vow:

“By the Bloodmoon, I will return. And when I do… every promise you broke will burn.”

Betrayal was her end ,but also her beginning.
