My unwanted, new best friend
I never knew what would be my undoing. I had always pressumd it would be something adrenaline rushing, heart rushing. You know something anyone would dream of. But I would have never thought that something so fragile, so weak could be capable of my sure death. So deadly this object, this life-everlasting item, left me cold.
It all began when I moved to Finetine high school in Portland, Oregon.I walked to my first class, science, as I ran into someone knocking everything out of mine and her hands. She is a short girl with silky black hair, pale skin and freckles underling her cheeks.
"Oh my gosh, I am so sorry" she claimed. "You're fine" I replied picking my stuff off the oily and dirty hallway floor. "Are you" she paused "Isabel Fresn" "Yes, is my reputation known to all?" "Yeah, we dont use get new people up here, so everyone knows everything's that happens here" she said waiting for me to respond. "Good to know. Excuse me, I have to head to my class now" "what class do u have?!" She asks so eager to know if we have a class together. "Science...sound familier" I say a bit snobbish. "Yay! We have a class together. I can already see us being best friends!" She says looking as though shes about to bust of joy. "I think you need to take a chill pill, its just one class, plus I don't plan on making friends," I tell her, being brutally honest. "Well, why not. Everyone needs a friend" she now looked a bit upset that I had denied her friend request. "Well, see, I like to focus on more important things like my education or basketball. You know something that will help me get into a great college soon." She said nothing for the rest of the way to science when the bell rang right before we hit the door, almost perfect timing.
We stood at the back of the classroom, waiting for approval to take our seats. Mr. Grungburg looked at us, pissed off at something that not a one minute tardy would do. He stared at us for a second. My emotions matched him, as he told us, "Please take your seats in the last two available ones." He was tall and stalky towering over everybody. He had auburn hair, ginger eyes, and a suit&tie. His voice was deep and sent shivers down my spine, though I don't know why, I was never the one to be scared of anything back in Delamar, Nevada. (She was the one to scare them with her dark personality and her emotionless face. So dark from the loss in her life, she had turned to be a troublemaker. With her ginger hair and her deep grey eyes, she looked scaresome.) Madeline and I had walked to our seats, and what a coincidence, they were right next to each other. We had begun our lesson on something boring I could'nt even remember cause I was too busy in my nightmare to listen. I was thinking of what my life would be like with madeline in my life, all cupcakes and rainbows. Little did I know that madeline would be part of my undoing. Though I did notice that madeline seemed quite angry that a particular boy was behind her. I did not know why, but I knew I would soon find out now that we are "best friends"
The bell rang at the end of class, and I got up and looked at my schedule, another class with madeline. After the next two classes came lunch when madeline grabbed my arm and pulled me to the table with 3 girls and 2 boys. I had madeline on one side of me with a boy I don't know on the other. "You must be Isabel," he said, proud that he recognized someone me. "I'm brody," he said, reaching out his hand for me to shake. "Okay," I replied back to him. But avoiding his hand. The empty seat by madeline was quickly filled by the boy madeline was pissed off at. As soon as he sat down, she jumped, staring down at him as tears started to flee down from her eyes. She ran into the bathroom, getting stared at all of her classmates. The girls at the table wasted no time and ran to the bathroom with her, including me. She stood there hands over her face, sobbing and being swarmed by the other girls that were sitting at the table.
"What happened?" I said, curious about the situation. A girl with pink glasses pulled me over to the side and opened her mouth as if to explain. She had vanilla blond hair down to her shoulders, brown hoadie with a skirt that sat just above her knee. "That guy, he's madelines ex, calvin. He cheated on her with her enemy, bianca whittman." She joined back to the group after the last word left her mouth and hugged madeline, comforting her. I looked out the bathroom to see calvin. He had golden locks, silver eyes, and a big nose. I can see why she liked him. I stepped a bit closer just enough to tap her on the shoulder. I was never good with feelings, as though me and my dad and I always hid them. Then I started thinking back on why I even had to move here. I thought about how he had died from covid 19, and her mother had died giving birth to her. And now that she was an orphan, she had to move and live with her aunt. Her aunt seemed sweet but never home, so it seemed ad though that I just lived alone. But when she was here, she was always in the garden tending to her unusual flowers. These flowers were different, though. They couldn't be searched up or bought online, and I wasn't even allowed in her garden. But one flower in particular had caught my eye.
After school, when I went home, my aunt was there, about to head out. "Oh hey, can madeline come over? She's my new friend." Oof, i never thought those words would come out of my mouth. "Uh," she said, thinking of what to say, "I guess, but don't let her near my garden," she said, a seeious look spreading across her face. Later, madeline had come over, with a bag for overnight. We began watching the movie when she got a call. She hung up and she started to cry once again. How much can one girl cry. "Bianca just went missing!" "Wait I thought u didn't like Bianca. Why are you crying again?" "Just cause I didn't like her doesn't mean I can't miss her!"That's exactly what it means!"I thought you were nice!" I've been trying to tell you, but all you think about is unicorns!"Whats wrong with unicorns!"This is why calvin broke up with you!" I said I could tell that stung like putting lemon juice in an open wound. "You know what, I thought I could help you make some friends and help you be happy, but no. I guess I was wrong about you," she cried as she ran out the door slamming it on the way out.
The next morning she didn't talk to me, even tried not to look at me but she did. Then came lunch when she sat down in her normal spot, I sat next to her to upset her, when she got up and moved tables. This went on for many days until the final fight. "I hate you!" She said. "At least I wasn't obsessed with you like you were not even a week ago!"I'm done, you win, just leave me out of your life!" She yelled across the lunchroom, she walked away meeting uo with calvin who was in her way to leave. He held a turkey sandwhich that madeline knocked out of his hands when she shoulder checked him. I now knew how to get back at her...
Calvin.
