The last chapter of book 2 (a little recap)
Chapter 52: Emotional Roller-coaster
Author
Shaurya was so happy that he took a step forward after kissing Aadhya’s forehead but that happiness didn't last long as Kavya came to his office and told him that Aadhya left and asked him to cancel her meetings.
He understood she was fighting with her feelings and he wanted to comfort her, but he needed to be in the office in her absence and she needed to be alone to figure out her feelings.
"Shaurya," Kavya called to him as she entered his office when he was lost in his thoughts.
"What?" he asked lazily as he glanced at her.
"I need the new deal file; I need to send it to the chairman. Did Ms. Aadhya sign on it?" she asked.
"Yeah, she did, but it was in her office," he responded.
"Could you please go and bring it?" She requested him as she knew she couldn't go there and bring a file in Aadhya's absence, but he could.
"Okay," he replied, and he went to Aadhya's office.
He missed her even more when he stepped into her office. A small smile broke his lips as he glanced at the wall where she was standing when he kissed her forehead a few hours ago.
Walking to her desk, he searched for the file but couldn't find it.
"Where did she place it?" Mumbling to himself, he kneeled before the drawers and started searching in all her drawers, which weren't locked.
"Here it is," he muttered, finding the file in the second drawer after searching for a while.
Something fell from the drawer when he took out the file. Shrugging, he picked it up and was about to slip it inside when he saw a hospital logo on it.
"Medical report? Whose medical report is this?" he wondered, opening the cover and unfolding the report as his curiosity took over.
"Aadhya?"
He skimmed through the report hastily, the sight of her name on it unsettling him. His heart ached for her the moment he finished reading.
His fist clenched, and his throat went dry. 'She doesn't deserve this,' he thought. 'So, this is why she is saying no to me. Because she...'
"Shaurya, did you find the file?" Kavya's voice disturbed his thoughts, and he quickly placed the medical report in the drawer and stood up with the file in his hand.
"Yeah, here you go," he muttered, handed her the file and walked to his office, lost in his thoughts.
The entire day he spent just looking at the clock, waiting for it to click fast. He stood from his chair and wrapped his work when the clock clicked 6 PM. Although Shaurya was physically in the office, his thoughts were with Aadhya. He left his office and headed straight to the parking lot, ignoring Kavya's calls.
He drove quickly to the mansion and asked the maid about Aadhya. She relayed what Aadhya had told her. He mentally berated himself for kissing her, realizing it had happened impulsively, as if on instinct.
He went directly to Rose, who was playing in her room.
"What is it this time, Shaurya?" she asked with raised eyebrows. As soon as she saw his face, she understood he had messed up.
"I think I fu—I mean, I messed up again," he sighed, sitting on the floor in front of her.
"What did you do again?"
"I did something your mother didn't like, I guess," Shaurya mumbled, placing his hand on his temple and massaging his aching head with his fingers.
"What did you do?" Rose asked, crossing her arms over her chest.
"I kis---. I can't tell you that," he shrugged, not wanting to tell her that.
Rose nodded meaningfully as if she understood everything.
"Is that why Mamma locked herself in her room?" she asked. He nodded sadly in response. "It's okay, Shaurya. Just say sorry, simple," she advised casually.
"I already said sorry before doing it."
"Then say sorry again until she forgives you," she grinned.
"Yeah, that's all I can do," he mumbled. "But I think she may need this time alone to think."
"Then I will not disturb her today," Rose remarked.
They talked until it was dinner time. Shaurya and Rose asked the maid to call Aadhya for dinner, as they both didn't want to disturb her.
Shaurya took a deep breath when he heard Aadhya's reply and took Rose to the table and fed her dinner, then made her sleep.
No matter how much she tried, Shaurya could see that Rose was low-key missing her mom. She could play the whole day without Aadhya but she couldn't sleep without seeing her mother. He was in Rose's room until 10 PM and walked out, switching off the lights after she fell asleep.
Knocking on Aadhya's door, he hoped she would unlock it and let him see her, but who was he kidding? It was Aadhya, after all.
"Are you alright, Ms. Aadhya?" he asked from outside, as she wasn't opening the door.
She took a deep breath restlessly and hummed in response.
"Call me if you need anything," he said gently, and he went to his room.
"Ugh.. What is happening to me?" Aadhya held her head in her palms, pulling her hair. "I need to sort it out with him," she muttered to herself decisively. She stood up from bed and put on a nightie, then walked out, not bothering to wear the overcoat.
She knocked on his door and entered his room, as it was not locked. He was sitting on the bed with a book in his hand.
"Why are you doing this to me, Shaurya?" she exclaimed, and he shoved his book aside, gazing at her confusedly.
It was the first time he saw her in little revealing clothes as it was a nightgown.
"What, Ms. Aadhya?" he asked, standing up from the bed.
"Why are you being nice to me? Why? Just why?" she yelled.
"Ms. Aadhya, please calm down," Shaurya mumbled as he started to walk to her, taking slow and deliberate steps.
She sighed, looking at him, before speaking.
"If this is what you want, then take it and leave," Aadhya said as she slipped down her nighty, standing there only in her undergarments.
"But please don't mess with my heart," she breathed out, looking down, tears threatening to fall from her eyes.
"Ms. Aadhya, what are you doing?" Shaurya exclaimed, averting his gaze from her.
"I am good like this, Shaurya. I am good, like a heartless woman... I don't want to feel things and I am not ready for any heartbreak again," she muttered, closing her eyes.
Shaurya took the duvet from the bed immediately and wrapped it around her body without looking at her.
She opened her eyes and glanced at him when he covered her.
"No, this is not what I want, Ms. Aadhya," he remarked, holding her shoulders.
"I want all of you," he said and pointed towards her heart, and a lone tear escaped her eye.
"There is nothing here, Shaurya. My heart was broken long ago."
"Then give me that broken heart. I will fix it."
"It's not that easy; why can't you understand?" She mumbled helplessly, and tears rolled down her eyes finally.
"Please calm down," he hugged her for the first time with all his emotions, unable to see her like that. "I know it's hard for you, but please let me love you. Give me a chance to take care of you, Aadhya." His voice was laced with sincerity, and she sobbed in his arms.
"Shhh... Don't cry," he caressed her hair, whispering soothing words in her ear and soon she felt dizzy like she was going to fall asleep.
Shaurya picked her up and took her to her room, then he gently placed her on the bed while she glanced at him with half-open eyes.
"Sleep," he mumbled softly, and she closed her eyes while he sat beside her, caressing her hair until she fell asleep and kissed her forehead.
When Aadhya opened her eyes again, it was already dawn, and she was sleeping on her bed, wrapped in a duvet. She looked behind to see if Shaurya was there, but he wasn't. She took a deep breath as she sat up and found her nightwear on the bed.
Even though it was Sunday, she woke up early and got ready, even though she was not going anywhere.
As she walked to her daughter's room, she found her sleeping peacefully, clutching her stuffed toy. She kissed her forehead and quietly left the room, closing the door gently behind her.
Walked to the kitchen, and she made herself a strong coffee.
"Please prepare breakfast for today," she told the maid and the maid nodded respectably.
Then Aadhya took bread, made herself a toast and arranged it on the plate.
"Tell everyone that I already had my breakfast and ask them to eat. I have important work to do, so I won't be able to come out of the study today. Tell everybody not to disturb me unnecessarily."
"Okay, Ma’am," the maid replied.
Aadhya went to her study and sat on the chair, placing the toast aside. Her mind was restless, and number of thoughts were running through her brain, making her anxious.
"Stop it!" she yelled and closed her eyes shut as her brain played last night's visuals continuously and she closed her ears with her palms when she heard his words, even when he was not talking. She opened her eyes frustratingly when she saw his face, even after closing her eyes.
A big battle started between her brain and heart. Her heart was begging her to give him a chance, but her brain was giving her red alerts.
The toughest battle was always between heart and brain. The heart knows no boundaries, but the brain does.
'He never tried to touch me intentionally, nor did he ever misbehave with me. He makes me comfortable with him and likes to take care of Rose.' She was analysing Shaurya’s past actions.
While her brain started making her overthink all the evil deeds people had done to her in the past, and her logical brain concluded that there might be a chance that Shaurya was approaching her just for pleasure.
The tension when he was around her, the raising heart whenever he touched her, his voice, his looks, his eyes, everything, everything made her excited and gave her goosebumps and raised some unexpected emotions inside her. She craved for his love, but at the same time, she was afraid of that love. She wanted his attention, but at the same time, she hated attention. She was living in a paradox now.
All her thoughts broke when she heard a knock on the door.
"I said do not disturb me," Aadhya exclaimed from inside.
"Mamma," Rose's voice fell on her ears.
"Rose," she mumbled. "What is it?"
"Mamma, come and have dinner. You didn't even eat anything from the morning," Rose exclaimed from outside.
She was shocked to know that so much time passed and it was already dinner time and she saw the watch it was 8 PM.
"You go and eat. I will join you," Aadhya said, as she was in no mood to eat, even though she was feeling weak.
"No, Mamma, I won't eat until you come out," Rose declared from outside.
"Don't behave like this, Angel," Aadhya chastised from inside, but Rose didn't respond.
"Rose."
"Rose," she called again and stood up from the chair and opened the door when she didn't hear her response. They were standing, Shaurya and Rose, staring at her.
"Come on, now," Rose muttered, holding her hand and taking her to the dining table. No matter what she was going through, she couldn't hurt Rose, so she went with Rose without protesting.
After having dinner, they all returned to their rooms silently, as no one dared to utter a single word as Aadhya was in a bad mood.
"I missed you, Mamma." Rose placed her head on her mother's lap as she closed her eyes to sleep.
"I missed you too, Angel," Aadhya mumbled, caressing her hair and kissing her cheeks lovingly. Soon Rose fell asleep and Aadhya's thoughts came to a halt.
She decided. He was clear about his feelings; now it was her turn to understand her own feelings for him.
She covered Rose with the duvet and walked out of her room, then she went straight to Shaurya's room.
"Are you alright, Ms. Aadhya? Why are you here at this hour?" he asked as he stood up from the bed tensely.
"Let's have sex," she stated without any emotion.
