"Full-disclosure: I came across this story on another website initially; I reviewed a portion of it there, but this is an updated review of the completed first book on Inkitt. I have been following Heidi’s story for a very long time now, to the point that she feels a bit like one of those frenemies you keep around just to see what train wreck she’s gotten herself into now. Cracks in the Mirror is the crash you don’t see coming, and one that leaves you reeling afterward. I remember finishing this book feeling shock, confusion, outrage, sorrow—I took a while to convince myself of what had really happened. And I think that is one of the strengths of Maya’s writing. For those who enjoy psychological thrillers, this one gets right in your head. Heidi herself is a complex character, the one everything hinges on. In this first book, I felt at times that she was getting what she deserved and at other times that no one at all deserved what she went through. It is a difficult and delicate balance to maintain with a character like her, but I was deeply invested in what her outcome would be all the way through. Even after the end of Cracks in the Mirror, there is so much left to unpack. I have already started reading the next book of the series (what a ride that is), but I cannot recommend Cracks in the Mirror enough! It will pull you in, and it won’t let you go. "
This book honestly broke my heart!
"I loved the story. It was very slow-paced and well-written, and I just loved the style in which it was presented. I enjoyed how raw it felt, and how on edge it made me feel, and even how angry it made me whenever the main character, Heidi, was going crazy and not taking any responsibility for her actions, always blaming anyone but herself for a problem she caused. This story hit me hard. I'll be honest, going in, I did not get what I expected. The beginning felt a little slow, but then it all crashed into me like a tsunami, and I just could not put it down. I highly recommend this to readers who are looking for something that will completely consume them emotionally. It was a really good read. Took me a week to get over it. Omg I cried. So much. It was a beautiful story, and very sad. Anyone reading this, be prepared! But don't be scared. Read it. It is a gem. You will not be disappointed."
Compelling and emotional
" This book does a powerful job of showing how choices have consequences and how deeply those choices can affect others. The characters feel real in their struggles, flaws and emotional responses, which gives the story weight and authenticity. A thoughtful and emotionally grounded read."
Very Intense
"This story is wild and very intense. I will continue to read it until the end. It is well written and very descriptive. Though it has several typos and needs to be proofread. It was a little repetitive in the beginning of her capture. It is a very imaginative and shocking read. I kept wanting Heidi to close the door and lock him in the basement when she was upstairs! I hope this was a made up story! God job!"
Great story
"Yes I really liked how this story is developing "
