“Remember, humans...the day I return will be the last day you ever see daylight.”
He fell to his knees, ethereal and otherworldly, yet his resolve burned brighter than any fear. His gaze sliced through the air, drilling into their minds, branding every face in their memory. Terror gripped them, and they stumbled back, choking, trembling. They knew he was no madman.
Pathetic, he thought. All of them...weak, trembling, utterly pathetic.
The highest priest stepped forward, his hands shaking as he flung holy water. It hissed and steamed on Azarion’s skin, burning like acid on marble. Chains sprang to life, snapping and coiling like iron serpents, yet even a thousand priests...one thousand titanic, chanting men...struggled to hold him. Their formation quaked beneath the weight of his wrath, a storm of power that no mortal should survive.
Then his eyes snapped open. A hellish glow, red and molten, radiated from him, slicing through the shadows. The air itself seemed to recoil. Priests fell back, mouths frozen mid-incantation. His voice came, low and venomous, shaking the earth:
“You wretched vermin! You will pay… all of you! Forever for touching me, forever for daring to strike the old man. Your agony will drown you. Your screams will echo until the earth forgets your names. When I rise, it will be your annihilation.”
The strongest priest began the final incantation. Ancient magic crackled, lightning arcing through the air. The earth trembled. A tomb of black stone plummeted from the sky, crashing around him, swallowing the darkness in an unnatural void. The doors slammed shut with a deafening roar, an eternal lock around the calamity, the predator of humanity.
He screamed...but it was not pain. It was rage. Pure, unbroken, infinite rage. Chains bent and strained. Flames licked the walls. The air burned. Even buried, even entombed, Azarion Thorne was not silent.
They buried him so deep, beneath layers of stone and earth, where no mortal mind could imagine reaching. They dared to whisper of victory.
They were fools.
For deep within the tomb, his eyes burned in the blackness. Even in slumber, his power whispered to the earth, to the shadows, to the dark corners of the world.
And one day… the nightmare would rise.
The world did not yet know the terror waiting beneath its feet...
