Amelia's POV:

No one my whole life has ever been there for me. Honestly, I was fine with that. I am now finally old enough to graduate out of my pack. To strike out on my own. I packed up my bags, which honestly was just two small packs. I didn’t have that much stuff anyway. I was happy to leave most of it behind. So I grabbed my bags, walked to my car. Then almost got run over.

“Hey!” The wolf said.

“Sorry…” I say looking down. As the lowest of the pack, lower than the pups, I was always beaten whenever I would dare to look into another wolf’s eyes.

“Whatever runt” the wolf growls, before loping away. Whooping and laughing back with his friends.

My heart lurched, how I wished I had that. I only had one friend, which was Ziggy. He’s the best. But sometimes I would envy the other wolves, who had multiple friends. I know it’s selfish of me to feel that way. When I have an amazing friend as Ziggy. I tried to smile through the painful thoughts, as I got in my car. Ziggy was already waiting for me, at the border. Where he would then drive us to our apartment. Where we would be living together. Until I got my first day on the new job I got.

Also until he could get a boyfriend. We both hated being mateless, but at least we have each other. I thought as I turned the keys in the ignition. The engine started, as I drove my car, through my pack’s (soon to be ex-pack’s) little town. I look at the little kids, laughing, running around, giggling. I smile fondly. Before driving out of town, through the woods, on the road, and I pass the county line. That ends our pack’s border.

I stop, pulling over on the side of the road. When I see Ziggy.

“Hey you’re not late…for once” he teases with an easy smile on his face.

“Yeah whatever. Remember I’m the one with the car” I explained.

“Yeah, and I’m the one with the apartment” he stated, with a smirk.

“Touche” I whisper.

“Anyway, let’s go. This place is amazing, and its also really close to your work.”

“Alright” I subdue, and open the door. Letting Ziggy inside the warm car.

He closes the door, and like that we’re off. We cross many pack borders, and county lines. Before we reach our desired destination. Hawthorn Apartments. Ziggy grabs my bags from the back seat. I thank him, and we walk inside. The front desk lady did not look happy to see us. In fact, she barely looked up from her phone.

“Mr. Bolt?” She asks, still not looking up from her phone.

“Yes that’s me” Ziggy says, with a stoic look on his face.

“Who is she?” The woman asks, chewing her gum. Like it was any of her business.

I don’t answer. Because Ziggy does it for me. I silently thank him for it.

“She’s with me. Also none of your business” he says, keeping his tone calm and even. Before grabbing our apartment key.

He then leads me away from the obnoxious desk clerk.

“You didn’t have to do that,” I told him. Trying to calm him down. I can tell he’s seething from under his cool facade.

“I know,” he says, before turning his focus back on the elevator.

We both wait for the double doors to open. When they do, I let him go first. It’s not just a wolf thing, but it’s an us thing. Something I did for him ever since we were little pups.

He grins at me. When we are both in, he presses the button for the top floor.

“So which apartment is ours?” I wonder aloud.

“Number Eleven on the top floor,” Ziggy says. With a smile.

I take this time since he’s distracted, so I can admire my best friend. His tall, muscular frame takes up most of the space of the elevator. His short, cropped blonde hair shines golden in the dim light. His green eyes sparkle a little in the low lighting. While me I’m pretty average looking. In my opinion. I have soft brown hair that is curly. Beautiful, but tough to maintain. I have sun kissed skin. Which I hate. I have bland brown eyes.

I nod, and then the elevator doors swing open. I nod, and walk down the plush hallway. To the apartment where we will be staying. I opened the door for Ziggy, since he had given me our card. I grinned at my best friend. Then I gasped at the space. It was huge! There are two bedrooms, a work room, a huge plush bathroom, a kitchen, and a balcony. My eyes widen when I take in the spacious living room.

“Wow” I gasp and sit on the plush black leather couch. “How did you get the down payment for this?” I ask him.

“Oh you know, it helps to own a few companies” he grins.

I roll my eyes. “Oh right, you’re rich, how could I forget?”

He rolls his eyes. “Go unpack, you have to get to work don’t you?” He smirks, raising a perfect eyebrow.

I gasp, shooting up from the couch. “Oh shit! My shift!” I scramble around the room, soon deciding on a black blouse, tucked into white business pants.

“How do I look?” I ask giving him a silly pose.

“Perfect” he grins. “Now get out of here” he urges.

I nod and rush out of the apartment.

I end up being 5 minutes early. Surprisingly. A kind she-wolf meets me at the door.

“Hello, you must be Amelia” she nods, and smiles at me with respect.

I smile back at her. “Yes I am ma’am. Do you know where I’m supposed to meet…Mr.Blackwood?”

“Yes, he is waiting for you. Go down this hall, and take a left at the elevator. Then take it to the top floor. You will see his office from there” She smiles politely.

I follow her directions, going down the hall. To the elevator. But when I ready myself to knock on his door. I find myself hesitating. What if I’m not the employee he wants? What if he fires me, sending me away before I get a chance? I ask myself. Suddenly I think back to Ziggy’s words, and shake my head. “No you’re being silly” My wolf says. I nod, and then knock on the door.

A deep voice comes from the other side. “Come in”.

No amount of internet stalking, and reading blogs. Could prepare me with what I saw in front of me. Mr. Blackwood, was even more handsome than on the internet, and in the blogs. His jet black hair was slicked back. But only a few men could pull off that hairdo. “He’s one of them.” My wolf whimpers. His gray eyes, locked with mine. I could tell he had seen way too much for just being twenty-five. Then his scent hit my fragile nose like a punch to the senses. He smelled like sin, and looked like s*x on a stick.

“Mrs. Kaide?” He says my last name slowly. His gray eyes searching mine.

I swallow a little before clearing my throat.

“Ahem. Sorry sir” I apologize.

Mr. Blackwood just chuckles, and says “sit”.

That deep rich sound, sends shivers down my spine. That simple order has my thighs clenching when I sit down. Doing as I’m told.

“No it is quite alright” he chuckles, and then watches me for a second.

“Um sir?” I ask him, squirming under his gaze.

“Oh yes, your job. You will be…working at the stadium. As a receptionist, and a front desk lady” he says to me.

In that deep voice that makes my wolf pause, and pace inside of me. “He might be the one. Amelia” she says. “No! We haven’t even had any contact with him. And remember what our Alpha had said. We are mateless. So be quiet Lillian” I chide my wolf. She backs up and nods, but not before huffing her disagreement. I nod, keeping my chin held high.

“We do not have a specific dress code here. Just be appropriate” he says.

“Yes sir” I tell him looking him in the eyes.

The first time I have ever looked a wolf in the eyes before.

His eyes darken a little. He smirks.

“I like your confidence, Mrs. Kaide. Do you have a mate? I email every one of my employees, mates because of the work schedule.” Mr. Blackwood.

“No I do not have a mate” I tell him. Looking away a little embarrassed.

“That’s…” He pauses, stroking his stubble a little.

“Pathetic?” I finished for him. Wincing a little at the crack in my voice.

“Interesting” He corrects.

“Oh um okay…” I shrug it off. I look away, as my wolf purrs inside of me. “Lillian be quiet!” I chided her. She huffs and shakes her head. “You worry too much,” she says.

“So when do I start?” I ask my new boss.

“How about tomorrow?” He replied, crossing his arms over his broad chest.

It made my tummy do a little flip.

“Yes sir..” I stutter a little, I stand and then move to the door.

“Thank you for your time…Amelia” He replied, at the end of his statement. He whispered my name so soft, I almost didn’t hear him.

“Yes sir..” I whispered back, grabbing the door handle, and walking out of his office.

I closed the door on my way out. I walked to the elevator. Thinking about what I had just gotten myself into. I had kind of hoped that he would be ugly, and unattractive. That the claims, blogs, and internet reels about him were lying. But now seeing him with my own two eyes. I could not deny that he was hot. I just really hope that this doesn’t turn out to be like my time spent in my former pack. I think to myself. As I walk inside the elevator. My mind starts replaying and analyzing every little detail about that meeting. The way he looked, the way his biceps flexed subtly under his suit. Most of all, when he had whispered my name. Like I had affected him somehow. Which was impossible.

“Give yourself more credit than that little human” Lillian says in the back of my mind. I nod a little. “Your right Lillian, let’s just hope I can make it through tomorrow” I reply back to my wolf. “You will. Did you see the way he looked at us? He was basically undressing us with his eyes.” Lillian says, sounding like a giddy teenage pup. “Lillian! He was not!” I blush at her crude remark. I am not used to her being so forward, with things like that. “He was! I was just the only one who noticed” she retorts back to me. I laugh a little at her antics. There is no way. I think to myself, as the elevator doors come open revealing the lobby. I walk past Renee. The kind receptionist. I give her a smile as I walk past her. Walking through the double doors. Ziggy is there waiting for me. Leaning against one of the pillars, with his hands casually in his pockets.

“So how was it?” He asks me.

“Good” I reply. More than good. I think to myself.

“We are going to like it here little human…” Lillian purrs in the back of my mind.

"Yes we are Lillian" I think back to her, as Ziggy and I walk back to his car.
