Very dark but with bright spots

"This is the kind of story that happens in one sitting. I can't say I necessary 'enjoyed' this one, but I definitely appreciated it. It was very different from the other story I've read of his and I can admire the author's range. The main character has breath. There are points of humor that made me smile. The supporting characters shine light during very dark point in the story, somehow leaving you with a sense of hope for the world. The recurring theme of sex as punishment is profound, so is the idea of redemption. I think this one will stay with me. Definitely worth a read."
