Chapter 1

The stale stink of cheap whiskey and expensive regret clung to Abhishek Mehra and Purab Khanna like a second skin as they stumbled through the hushed foyer of Abhishek’s sprawling South Delhi Mansion. Midnight cloaked the house, amplifying the scrape of shoes on marble and their laboured breathing. Abhishek, a burly man whose jovial facade was currently cracked by intoxication, fumbled with the light switch, flooding the entrance with harsh fluorescence. He blinked owlishly.

“Shhh!” Purab hissed, swaying dangerously, his usually sharp features blurred by alcohol and a profound weariness that went deeper than the drink. “Disha… she hates when I’m late and loud.”

Abhishek snorted, a wet, ugly sound. “Disha’s gone, yaar. Years. Get it through your thick skull. It’s Alia upstairs, your wife. My sister.” He emphasized the words with a clumsy jab to Purab’s chest. “Bed. Now. Your and Alia's room. Remember? Left at the stairs.”

“Right… left,” Purab mumbled, his dark eyes clouded. The name 'Disha' hung in the air between them, a phantom limb both men felt but never acknowledged sober. The pain of her absence, sharpened by the liquor, twisted Purab’s gut. “Alia’s room. Left.”

Abhishek, driven by his own need to collapse, gave Purab a none-too-gentle shove towards the corridor leading to his shared bedroom with Alia on the ground floor, then lurched towards the grand staircase leading up to the family bedrooms. “Left, Purab! Very… very left!” he called back, his voice already slurring into incoherence as he began his unsteady ascent.

Purab stood swaying in the hallway, the geometry of the house spinning slowly. Left at the stairs… very left. Alia’s room, his room. Cold. Empty. Like his life since Disha walked out, convinced of an infidelity that had been a violation, not a choice. The familiar ache, amplified tenfold by the whiskey’s false courage, tightened his throat. He didn’t want that cold, impersonal room. That had only been Alia’s and never his. He wanted warmth. He wanted her. In his drunken haze, the spatial logic dissolved. Upstairs… warmth… Disha. He saw Abhishek disappear at the top of the stairs, turning right towards the master suite. Bedrooms… all bedrooms upstairs. His alcohol-addled brain fused the instructions: Go upstairs. Bed. He forgot the 'left', forgot ‘his’ room entirely. Drawn by aching need, he followed Abhishek’s path, stumbling upwards, his expensive loafers scuffing the polished wood.

The upstairs corridor was dim, lit only by a single nightlight near the far end. Purab blinked, trying to orient himself. Doors lined the hallway. One stood slightly ajar, a sliver of deeper darkness visible. Bed. Without conscious thought, guided solely by the gravitational pull of his longing and the alcohol coursing through his veins, he pushed it open and stumbled inside, kicking it shut behind him with his heel. The room smelled faintly of jasmine perfume and something fresher. Moonlight filtered through half-closed curtains, painting silver stripes on the rumpled duvet. A small shape lay curled beneath it.

Relief, thick and intoxicating, washed over Purab. He was home. Disha was here. In their bed. The weight of years of loneliness, of Alia’s relentless possession, of being trapped in a marriage built on deceit and force, crashed over him. He needed to hold her. To explain. To be with her. He moved towards the bed with the clumsy determination of the profoundly drunk.

Rhea Mehra, Abhishek’s twenty-year-old daughter, stirred in her sleep. She’d been lost in a dreamscape involving sun-drenched beaches and a certain tall, brooding figure who had featured in her adolescent fantasies for years, Purab Khanna, her uncle by marriage, her father’s best friend. The click of the door and the sudden presence in her room dragged her reluctantly towards wakefulness. She blinked, disoriented, her heart starting a nervous tap-dance against her ribs. A large silhouette loomed over her bed, fumbling with its clothing. Fear, cold and sharp, shot through her veins.

“Who… who’s there?” she whispered, her voice thick with sleep and sudden terror, pushing herself up on her elbows. “Papa?”

The silhouette responded with a low groan that vibrated with raw emotion. “Disha…” The word was a ragged sigh, filled with such anguish and desperate hope it momentarily paralyzed Rhea. She recognized the voice instantly. Purab? Chucks. Her private nickname for him, born from a childhood mispronunciation she’d never outgrown, echoed silently in her mind. But why was he calling her ‘Disha’? His first wife, the one who left… the one everyone whispered about.

Before she could react further, large, warm hands, smelling faintly of whiskey and expensive cologne, found her shoulders through the thin fabric of her camisole nightdress. “Don’t… don’t push me away, please,” Purab choked out, his voice thick with unshed tears. He was leaning over her now, his breath hot and sour-sweet against her cheek. Rhea froze, caught between terror and the bewildering pull of his proximity, the sheer physical presence of the man she’d secretly idolized. He was here, in her room, touching her. But he thought she was someone else.

“Purab- Chucks! It’s me, Rhea! Stop.” she hissed, trying to twist away, pressing her hands against his solid chest. He was wearing only his unbuttoned shirt now, his bare and muscular chest hot and hard beneath her palms. The contact sent an unwelcome jolt of electricity through her.

He didn’t seem to hear her protest. Instead, driven by the powerful delusion and the alcohol lowering every inhibition, he slid one arm under her shoulders, pulling her slight frame flush against his torso. The other hand tangled in her loose hair, tilting her head back. His body heat enveloped her; the scent of him, sweat and musk and sorrow, overwhelmed the delicate jasmine.

“I never cheated, Disha,” he whispered hoarsely, his lips brushing her temple. A tremor ran through him. “Never. You have to believe me. She… she forced me…” His voice hitched, breaking on a sob that seemed torn from his very core. Rhea felt the dampness of tears on her skin near her hairline. The raw pain in his voice was unlike anything she’d ever heard. She stopped struggling momentarily, stunned.

“Who… who forced you?” she breathed, the question escaping before she could stop it, caught in the tidal wave of his confession.

“Alia!” The name exploded from him in a venomous hiss, laced with years of suppressed rage and humiliation. He buried his face in the curve of her neck, his lips searing her skin even as his tears wet it. “That night… the party… she cornered me. Drunk. Powerful. Said she’d tell you horrific lies… ruin us... ruin me.” His arms tightened convulsively around her. “She pushed me down… I was drunk, Disha, so drunk… and she just… took me. Didn’t matter what I said. Didn’t matter that I screamed your name.” He shuddered violently. “It’s how Aryan was made. That night. Not love. Rape.” The word hung in the dark room, stark and ugly.

Rhea gasped, her own breath catching. Aunt Alia? The glamorous, sharp-tongued woman who ruled their social circle? The revelation was seismic, shattering her perception of her formidable aunt and casting the brooding man crushing her against him in a terrifyingly vulnerable light. His pain radiated from him, palpable and suffocating. It mingled confusingly with the illicit thrill of his body pressed so intimately against hers.

“And she never stopped,” Purab continued, his voice a ragged scrape against her skin, his lips moving desperately over her jawline, seeking her mouth. “Every night she thinks she owns me. Like property. Uses me. I feel… filthy. Empty. But you… you were everything. My love. My life. Please… please, Disha… just let me hold you. Just let me love you. Please…” His mouth finally found hers in a clumsy, desperate kiss. It tasted of salt tears and whiskey and unbearable need.

Rhea’s world tilted. The fear hadn’t vanished, but it was now entwined with a dizzying, forbidden cocktail of emotions: shock at his revelation, profound pity for his suffering, and beneath it all, a flame ignited by years of secret longing. Purab Khanna, Chucks, was kissing her. He was broken, lost, believing she was his lost love, but it was his lips, his hands sliding down her back, pulling her hips towards his. She could feel the hard ridge of his erection pressing insistently against her lower belly through the thin layers of his trousers and her nightdress. It was wrong. Horrifically wrong. He was drunk, confused, grieving. She knew she should scream, shove him away with all her might, run.

But… Chucks.

He was whispering pleas against her lips now, fragmented words of love and desperation meant for another woman, but his scent filled her nostrils, his heat scorched her skin, and the sheer physical magnetism of him – the broad shoulders, the defined chest she could feel beneath her hands, the intense darkness of his eyes now hooded with alcohol and anguish – was overwhelming. That latent crush, buried deep but never extinguished, surged forward with terrifying force, fed by the electric charge of his touch and the raw intimacy of his confession. He needed comfort. He needed her, even if it was a lie. And a treacherous part of her, starved for his attention, craved him.

“Shhh…” she found herself whispering back, the sound alien to her own ears. Her hands, which had been braced against his chest, hesitated, then moved almost of their own volition. One slid upwards to tangle in his thick, dark hair, pulling his mouth more firmly onto hers. The other drifted down the powerful muscles of his back, feeling the sweat-damp fabric of his shirt. She kissed him back, tentatively at first, then with a building hunger that mirrored his own desperation, though born from a different source. The line between pity, illicit desire, and the surrealness of the moment blurred beyond recognition.

Purab groaned into her mouth, a sound of pure relief and escalating desire. He mistook her response for Disha’s forgiveness, her acquiescence. His kisses grew deeper, more possessive, his tongue sliding past her lips. His hands became more urgent. One slipped under the hem of her camisole, his large palm finding the smooth, warm skin of her back, then sliding around to cradle her waist, his thumb brushing the sensitive underside of her breast. Rhea gasped against his mouth, a shiver of pure arousal racing through her, momentarily eclipsing the lingering threads of guilt and panic. His touch was fire. His need was a drug.

He broke the kiss, panting, his eyes burning into hers in the dimness, seeing only Disha. “Need you… need to feel you… all of you…” he rasped, his voice thick with lust and alcohol. His hands moved to the straps of her camisole, pulling them down her shoulders with a clumsy urgency. The flimsy fabric slid down, baring her large, firm breasts to the cool air and the heat of his gaze. Rhea didn’t stop him. Her own need, a terrifying storm within her, silenced the warnings. She arched her back slightly, offering herself, a silent, dangerous consent wrapped in the disguise of mistaken identity.

“Yes…” she breathed, the word barely audible, lost in the sound of his own ragged breathing.

His response was immediate, a low growl resonated in his chest as he lowered his mouth to her breast, swirling his tongue around the hardening peak before sucking hard. Rhea cried out, a sharp, involuntary sound of pleasure-pain, her fingers digging into the muscles of his shoulders. The sensation was exquisite, sending jolts of electricity straight to her core. He lavished the same attention on her other breast, his hands now frantically working on the buttons of his own trousers. He kicked them off, along with his briefs, his erection springing free, thick and heavy and demanding. The sight of him fully naked, sculpted and powerful in the moonlight, stole Rhea’s breath. He was stunning.

He didn’t pause. Driven by a desperate, drunken need to reclaim the intimacy he’d lost, to prove his love, to lose himself in the phantom of his wife, he pushed her nightdress and panties down her legs in one rough motion. Rhea lay completely bare before him, dark skin glowing in the moonlight. His eyes raked over her with undisguised hunger, a hunger she instinctively felt was for her body, regardless of the name he whispered.

“Disha… so beautiful… mine…” he murmured, his voice thick with lust and alcohol. His hands gripped her hips, his thumbs digging into the soft flesh, pulling her towards the edge of the bed. He positioned himself between her thighs, his hard, hot length pressing insistently against her damp center. Rhea’s heart hammered against her ribs like a trapped bird. This was it. Reality crashed back for a split second, the wrongness, the deception, the potential fallout. But the heat of him, the anticipation coiling low in her belly, his touch, his desperation, was too potent. She wrapped her legs around his waist, a silent, final surrender.

Purab needed no further invitation. With a groan that was half-pain, half-triumph, he thrust forward, sheathing himself inside her in one powerful, unrelenting stroke. Rhea gasped, a sharp intake of breath at the sudden, stretching fullness. She had dreamt of her Chucks taking her virginity in a million different ways, but never in her wildest dreams did she imagine it would be like this. He was large, and she wasn’t prepared, it brought tears to her eyes for more reasons than one.

He froze for a second, buried to the hilt, his face pressed against her neck, her sensitive inner walls gripping him like a vice, breathing raggedly. “God… Disha… missed you… missed this…” he groaned, the words muffled against her skin. Then he began to move.

It wasn’t gentle. It was hard, deep, and relentless, driven by years of pent-up frustration, grief, and the false bravado of the alcohol. Each powerful thrust drove the breath from Rhea’s lungs. His hips pistoned against hers, his pelvis grinding into her clit with every inward surge. The friction was intense, almost overwhelming. He held her hips immobile, controlling the rhythm, his fingers digging into her flesh. The bed frame began a rhythmic protest against the wall, a low thud-thud-thud that echoed the pounding of Rhea’s pulse in her ears.

The sheer force of him, the animalistic rhythm, the sound of skin slapping against skin – it was raw, primal, and devastatingly arousing. Rhea’s initial discomfort melted into a pooling heat that spread rapidly through her veins. Her fingers clawed at his back, needing purchase in the storm he was unleashing. She met his thrusts as best she could, arching her hips upwards to take him deeper, seeking that exquisite friction against her clit. His earlier confession played on a loop in her mind, his vulnerability, his pain at Alia’s hands mingling strangely with the physical ecstasy he was wringing from her body. She felt powerful and violated, complicit and desired, all at once.

“Chucks…” she moaned, the forbidden nickname escaping her lips in a breathless gasp as he angled a particularly deep thrust, striking a spot inside her that made stars explode behind her eyelids.

He didn't seem to notice the name, lost in his own world of intoxicated reunion. “Yes… yes… love you… always loved you…” he growled between gritted teeth, his pace increasing, becoming more frantic. Sweat slicked their bodies together, the smell of sex mingling with the lingering alcohol and his cologne. His hand slid down her body, finding the swollen nub of her clit. He began rubbing it in tight, insistent circles, perfectly timed with his deep strokes.

The dual assault was too much. Rhea’s body tensed, a coil wound impossibly tight. Pleasure, sharp and undeniable, ripped through her, shattering control. She cried out, her back arching violently off the bed, her inner muscles clenching tightly around his invading length in powerful, rhythmic spasms. The climax washed over her in waves, blinding and intense, obliterating thought, guilt, and fear in a flood of pure, physical sensation.

Purab felt her convulse around him, her muffled cry music to his drunken, grief-stricken mind. It pushed him over the edge he’d been teetering on. He slammed into her one final, deep time, burying himself to the root, and roared her name “DISHAA!” as his own release tore through him. Hot jets of semen pulsed deep inside her, a claiming his fractured psyche desperately needed to make. He held himself deep, shuddering violently, his weight collapsing partially onto her as the tremors subsided.

For a moment, there was only the sound of their ragged breathing and the frantic hammering of two hearts in the aftermath. Sweat cooled on their tangled bodies. The scent of sex hung heavy in the air. Slowly, the reality of the situation began to seep back into the silence. Purab’s exhausted, alcohol-soaked body went slack. His grip on her loosened, his head lolling onto her shoulder. Within seconds, passed out from the potent cocktail of whiskey, emotional exhaustion, and physical release, he was snoring softly, still buried inside her.

Rhea lay frozen beneath him, pinned by his weight and the crushing weight of what had just happened. The incredible, illicit pleasure still tingled in her limbs, but it was rapidly being submerged by a tidal wave of panic, shame, and confusion. The dampness between her legs wasn't just hers anymore. She could feel the sticky evidence of his release leaking onto her thighs. Chucks was naked and unconscious in her bed, believing he’d made love to his ex-wife. She was his niece by marriage. He was married to her Aunt Alia. Alia, who he claimed raped him, manipulated him. The dappled moonlight now felt harsh, exposing them. The warmth of his body, which moments ago had been so desired, now felt like an accusation. The thudding of her heart was no longer from passion, but from dread as the house remained silent around them, holding its breath. She stroked his hair, simply held him in her arms and inside her for the first and perhaps the last time. Wondering how long before morning? How long before this fragile, destructive lie collapsed?
