THE FOREST STORY
One sunny afternoon, Rio was walking through the forest when he realized he had lost his way. The tall trees and winding paths made him feel small and scared. Just then, a playful baby elephant appeared and ran toward him, trumpeting happily. The baby wanted to play, and soon Rio forgot his fear as they laughed and ran together among the trees. Suddenly, a huge shadow appeared. It was the mother elephant! She looked at Rio with kind, curious eyes and asked, “Little one, why are you here in our forest?” Rio replied gently, “I got lost while walking. Your baby found me, and we started playing.” The mother elephant smiled softly and said, “Ok, tonight live with us. There are many dangerous animals in this forest who can attack you. Under our care, you’ll be safe.” That night, Rio curled up close to the elephants and felt their warmth. For the first time since getting lost, he felt safe. The next morning, Rio woke to loud chopping sounds. People were cutting down the trees! The baby elephant hid behind his mother, trembling. The mother elephant said, “These trees are our home, our food, our shelter. If they cut everything, where will we live?” Rio’s heart ached. He went to the men and said, “Please don’t cut so many trees. The animals live here, and without the forest, they will have no home.” One man replied, “Child, our living depends on these trees. We cut them, sell the wood, and people make furniture out of it. This is how we feed our families.” Rio thought carefully and then had an idea. “What if for every old tree you cut, you plant 100 new trees? Then you can earn your living, and the animals will still have a home.” The men were unsure at first. Planting so many trees seemed hard. But then one of them said, “If we plant 100 trees, our children will have a forest in the future. This is fair.” The elephants trumpeted with joy. The baby elephant danced around Rio. Slowly, the forest began to grow greener again as new saplings took root. Not only did the people agree to plant new trees, but they also helped Rio find his way safely back home. As he waved goodbye to his forest friends, Rio knew he had helped create a promise of harmony between humans and nature.
Moral: When we care for nature, it cares for us. With compassion and wisdom, humans and animals can live together in harmony.
