Chapter 30
They went to Destino. Mickey had made a reservation, so the table was waiting for them. The smiling waiter greeted the cheerful group warmly.
They ate delicious food, enjoyed local wines, and laughed a lot. They were so happy and grateful to have each other, to share a night like this.
At one point, Mickey interrupted them. They thought he was about to make a toast, but instead, he knelt down on one knee. Everyone went silent.
He said:
“Melissa, I wanted to do this when we were alone, but tonight feels too perfect. All these people love you , and they can only make this moment even happier. Though I doubt they love you as much as I do…”
Everyone laughed softly.
“You are my person. You are my soulmate. I want to spend my life with you. Will you marry me?”
Melissa was surprised, as strong as their love was, they had never talked about this. She took a deep breath and looked into his colorful eyes. She felt peace, because in them she read the words: everything will be all right, always.
Finally, she spoke:
“You really surprised me. I love you more than anything. This is the perfect night to say yes. Of course I’ll marry you. You make me the happiest person in the world.”
She knelt down in front of him and hugged him. He kissed her gently. In their eyes, stars were shining. Everything was exactly as it should be.
Everyone clapped and congratulated them, shouting that they wished Mickey had told them sooner so they could bring gifts.
Suddenly, Veronica remembered something and pulled a small package out of her bag.
She handed it to Melissa and said:
“I saved you the last copy of your book. I guessed you probably didn’t keep one for yourself.”
Melissa laughed and replied:
“Of course I didn’t. Thank you so much.”
She looked at the beautiful blue cover where the title shimmered: Finally Seen, Finally Loved.
