Summary

Zikara Farrayn has always been an outsider. Born human into a pack of hunters and werewolves, she lacks the beast inside her that makes the others strong, fast, and deadly. To her father, the legendary Alpha Tarak Farrayn, she is little more than a disappointment. But when a dangerous encounter with a rogue leaves her life hanging by a thread, her father grudgingly gives her a chance: train under the notorious beta, Makona, a man whose apprentices have all failed and often paid the price. Alone, unarmed, and weaker than the youngest wolf, Zikara must survive Makona’s relentless methods, prove her worth to the pack, and discover if she is capable of more than anyone ever expected. All the while, shadowed whispers of an ancient enemy stir: the lycans, the godlike ancestors of werewolves and hunters, may not be extinct after all. And Zikara’s fate may hold the key to a prophecy that could tip the balance of power forever. In a world where strength is life, weakness is death, and trust is a dangerous gamble, Zikara must find the courage to awaken the power within or be left behind in the shadows.

Preface

This story is based on Lost Lycan’s Mate (published on Galatea), formerly known as In the Shadows. The world remains the same, as does my concept of hunters possessing venom while also being werewolves. You’ll also notice similarities in the relationships between the FMC and her father and mentor, as seen in Lost Lycan’s Mate.

You might be wondering why I decided to write this. The truth is, I originally planned to completely rewrite the series. But when Lost Lycan’s Mate received so much love and attention, it felt wrong to simply redo it.

Still, like many writers, I have the fatal flaw of never knowing when to stop revising. There were just too many plot holes, inconsistencies, and scenes that I felt could have been written better to ignore them. So, this story is more for my own peace of mind than anything else.

I chose to share it here because Inkitt has been such an important part of my writing journey. The support from my followers and readers has helped me reach my goals and even have some of my books contracted with Galatea. It felt wrong to leave this space empty except for a few snippets, so here we are.

I hope this story gives you a chance to get to know my writing style and me as an author, and maybe even drive you to check out my other stories on Galatea. But more than anything, I wanted to keep something here that’s free and accessible to everyone.

A quick note: this story is drastically different from Lost Lycan’s Mate. You won’t be able to read this and jump straight into Book 2 on Galatea, as the storylines don’t match up.

Thank you for being here, for reading, and for all of your incredible support.

~ Happy reading ♡
