Chapter 1

Chapter 1: Sara

My name is Sara Dashwood, and I was born with cerebral palsy. I have difficulty with academics in school. My dad passed away while on active duty, and I have a stepdad named John Peterson, who is a wonderful father to my brother Andrew and me. I love the story of how my mom and stepdad fell in love. When they were kids, my mom, Kate, was in love with my stepdad’s cousin, James. Unfortunately, James did not reciprocate her feelings. Both my stepdad and his cousin James are from England. My mom’s uncle got a job there, so they lived in England for a year. Eventually, my mom moved back to Mississippi when her uncle got another job. Although James agreed to write her, he ultimately broke his promise.

My stepdad was in love with my mom and began writing her letters, making her believe that they were from James. When she discovered the truth, she was heartbroken, but ultimately she fell in love with my stepdad. My dad did everything he could to keep them apart. While I thought my dad's actions toward my mom and stepdad were wrong, I also realized that if my mom hadn't married my dad, I wouldn't have been born. It seems that difficult sacrifices must sometimes be made for others. My mom was uncertain about whether my dad or my stepdad was Andrew's father, but they eventually found out that my stepdad was indeed Andrew's father.

Andrew has changed his last name to my stepdad's last name because they were very close. I really love my stepdad too, and I call him "Dad." I don't remember my biological father very well because I was a baby when he was killed in active duty. I have not met my stepdad's uncle and aunt, and to be honest, I am not interested in meeting them. I don't like how they treated my mom.

However, I did get to meet my stepdad's cousins, James and Lisa. I also met my stepdad's father and his sister, Rose. I call my stepdad's father "Grandfather," and I refer to his sister as "Aunt Rose."

My mom's parents abandoned her when she was a baby, so her aunt and uncle took her in. They were kind people. My mom became a lawyer, and my stepdad is a doctor. She was also born with cerebral palsy. My mom and stepdad had another baby named Ryan, and he and I were very close. Ryan was in high school at the time.

My best friend is Patty Peterson, whose mom is also my mom's best friend. I haven't had many friends throughout my life because I've always been afraid of rejection. When I do talk to people, they sometimes look at me oddly. Although I have many followers on Facebook, they aren't true friends.

My brother, Andrew, is a writer who specializes in mystery stories. I want to be a writer too, but I doubt I would be as successful as he is.

My roommates are Susan Brooks and Melissa Johnson. Susan is a self-centered person who tends to manipulate others. She moved out of her parents' house because she didn't want to follow their rules. Despite her spoiled nature, Susan is a beautiful woman who could attract any guy she wants, but she never stays in a relationship for long.

On the other hand, my roommate Melissa is a hard-working individual. Unfortunately, she was involved in an accident some time ago, which resulted in her not being able to remember her childhood.

My brother has developed feelings for Melissa, which surprised me because I never thought he would fall in love again after his previous relationship. He used to date a woman named Elizabeth, who is the daughter of the king of England.

Elizabeth was killed in an accident, but her body was never found. Many people believe that her half-sister, Princess Mary, was involved in Elizabeth’s accident, but the police lack sufficient evidence to prove her guilt. Their father, King Henry, disowned Princess Mary, leading to her banishment from England. Elizabeth’s disappearance deeply affected Andrew, who held onto the hope that she was still alive. Eventually, Andrew was able to move on after meeting Melissa.
