Summary

Together we will develop characters and storylines that illuminate the human condition. The people from Killtara are described as ‘salt of the earth’ but that belies deep suppressed emotions of love, hate, shame and guilt that wreck havoc on their lives. Maybe by knowing these characters we will get to know ourselves a little better and understand why those we ‘love’ act the way they do.

Chapter 1

Nothing is permanent- that is something I have come to learn as a Priest. Change can announce itself with thunderous applause or thunderous silence. In my experience, there are very few random happenings, no- from what I have seen, nearly everything can be traced back and unfurled to reveal its beginnings. That is the uncomfortable truth. In my time in Killtara, I have had the privilege of being up close and personal with the Parishioners during key moments in their lives- good and bad. Now I want to examine these people with you. I want to make sense of if all. Why did the Bourke siblings unravel after the death of their elderly parents; why did our Muinteoir Mrs O Shea take her own life; who is the father of Shanon Moffet’s baby?

Which of our parishioners would you like to meet first?
