Chapter 1: Outside the Cabin

Fire crackles low, a gentle hum,

Orange light dances on the wall.

Outside, the storm is wild and numb,

A roaring, screaming, thrashing squall.

Trees are bending, roads unseen,

The world's a blurry, angry grey.

But here inside, I'm warm and keen,

to let the chaos drift away.

Wool socks thick, a steaming mug,

of something sweet, a honeyed brew.

The wind can howl, the branches tug,

I'm safe and sound, me and you.

No need to brave the icy bite,

No need to hear the thunder crash.

Just quiet warmth and gently light,

While outside, everything turns to ash.
