Chapter 1: Umoja – Unity

Amina, Kwame, Zuri, and Jalen were four friends who loved playing together. One sunny morning, they sat under a big tree, talking about their favorite things and wondering how they could make their neighborhood even better.

Grandma Nia, their wise neighbor, saw them and smiled. She handed them a colorful map and said, “Kwanzaa is seven days long, and each day teaches us something important about how to be better together.”

The friends eagerly decided to start their journey with the first principle — Umoja, which means Unity. They organized a picnic in the park, inviting neighbors of all ages. As everyone shared stories, food, and laughter, they saw how working together made their community stronger.

They learned that Umoja — Unity — is about caring for each other and coming together as one.
