Summary

La casa del silencio

A veces pienso que la casa respira.

Cuando el viento sopla entre las rendijas del techo, suena como un suspiro largo, cansado… igual que el de mi abuelo cuando me mira y no dice nada.

Las paredes tienen manchas que parecen ojos. Yo las contaba cuando no podía dormir, pero dejé de hacerlo porque algunas veces juraría que una de esas manchas parpadeó.

Mi abuelo dice que los niños buenos no hacen preguntas.

Dice que mi voz suena demasiado aguda, que debería aprender a hablar más despacio, más bajito, como “una niña decente”.

No entiendo muy bien qué quiere decir con eso, pero cuando me viste con los vestidos viejos que guarda en un baúl azul, yo me quedo quieto, porque si lloro, él se enfada.

Y cuando se enfada, la casa entera tiembla.

Yo tenía cinco años la primera vez que me llamó Lucía.

Dijo que era un nombre bonito, que le recordaba a la luz, pero en su voz sonaba a sombra.

Mi verdadero nombre se quedó atrapado en algún rincón de mi garganta, como si tuviera miedo de salir.

Recuerdo el espejo del pasillo.

Era alto, de marco dorado, cubierto por una sábana blanca durante el día. Pero por las noches, el abuelo me obligaba a mirarlo sin cubrirlo.

“Dime lo que ves”, susurraba.

Yo veía un niño con un vestido que le quedaba grande y la mirada partida en dos.

Pero si lo decía, él se enfadaba. Así que aprendí a mentir.

Decía: Veo a Lucía.

Y él sonreía.

A veces me pregunto si aquel espejo no era en realidad una puerta.

Una puerta hacia algo que estaba esperando el momento justo para cruzar.
