Prologue
PROLOGUE
Like ants scurrying around rapidly, the employees of Phoreda, a health care company, ran back towards their cosy homes with pleasure and relief. The everlasting Friday had finally come to an end.
But not for one employee.
She packed her bag, tired from the long day. She heard laughter and whispers outside the office. She recognised their voices. Trouble was coming.
With quick thinking, she grabbed her phone and sent her location to her family.
Before she could walk down the stairs, someone grabbed her bag from behind and yanked her backwards. The girl flew back towards a wall, hitting her head. The agonising pain sent panic and adrenaline coursing through her veins.
Her phone lay next to her, a couple of feet away. With her head still spinning, she clicked on a contact desperately hoping someone would come to her aid.
Her hands were shaking as she typed out, ′help′
Laughter echoed in the stairwell. The weight of their presence sent a shiver up her spine. Thalia filmed the vulnerable girl in pain, whilst the others smirked. A smile the victim knew too well.
"Next bitch-" Thalia began taunting.
"-is gonna die." Elora finished.
This was it. The poor girl was next. The group was going to silence her, but not in the way anyone (except them) could have imagined.
Elora leaned up against the railing. Her arms crossed, defiantly. Her eyes cold as they stared into the poor girl's soul. Theo squared his shoulders before grabbing the girl by her collar.
"You think you can leave bitch?" He spoke, mockingly.
"Stop! Leave me alone! Please!" The girl begged for her life.
Beads of sweat had formed on her forehead.
"Shut the hell up, idiot!" Harvey ordered, from behind.
Her bag slipped off her shoulder. Harvey grabbed it, emptying the contents out on the floor. Thalia began recording the ordeal.
"Not here." Harvey spoke quietly, taunting her.
"How-Why are you doing this to me?! What's wrong with you?" The girl cried.
"Shut up! What are you on about?" Thalia answered.
"You know why we're here." Harvey said.
"Give it to us and we'll let you go." Thalia added.
Her body tipped backwards. Theo's hands grabbed her neck, closing her airways.
"I-I don't have it!" The poor girl cried.
The poor girl fought as viscously as she could. She clawed at the guy knowing death was mere millimetres away from her. Theo began to look into her pockets, searching for her phone. It contained the evidence of their crimes. He lost grip on the phone and it fell down, enraging the bastard. She began kicking the predator but he was no match for her.
Harvey scoffed.
“Do you guys think if I leave my seed in her body and when she turns into compost that there’ll be a crop of Harvey plants?” Harvey joked, menacingly.
“It would go along well with the rest of your plants, mate.” Elora chuckled.
“Nothing beats a dead body for fertiliser.” Theo added.
“At this rate, your garden will be amazing.” Thalia complimented.
A silent scream escaped her lips before a thud echoed after. The group looked down to see a pool of blood.
"Shit shit shit!" Theo quietly swore.
"What the hell?" Elora cried.
"What's wrong with you?" Harvey questioned him.
"Oh. My god. What have you done?" Elora stared at him in astonishment.
Thalia was frozen, the phone stuck in her hands. It was still recording...the terrible ordeal.
"What do we do now?" Thalia cried.
Elora was about to rush down when she realised, "CCTV cameras."
There was no cameras as they were in a blind spot.
"We need to leave." Theo replied.
"Are you for real? She's gonna die!" Thalia spoke harshly.
"No one is gonna say anything about this. Or else we're dead." Theo threatened.
The group silently nodded. The tension in the air grew palpable.
"We can't leave this way." Theo stated.
"Let's go upstairs, down the corridor and we'll reach the company's back door that way?" Harvey suggested, shakily.
"We need to leave now!" Thalia whispered, desperately.
The footsteps of the sick workers could be heard as they fled the crime scene. A tear fell into the pool of blood lying next to the girl's head as the devastating reality crushed her like a wave. She was fading in and out of consciousness.
Her sister lay on the couch waiting for her to turn up, when she got the message. Puzzled, she called her sister's phone.
Ringing.
Ringing.
Ringing.
Little did she know, her little sister lay dead, never to pick it up again.
