01 ● Jeong Yunho ● eye to eye (or almost)

I had just finished a call with my boyfriend when he called me again — this time, a video call.

— Hey, love. What is it? Did you forget to tell me something? — I asked while looking for my keys.

— Sorry, jagiya. But I just remembered I need to discuss something serious with you. There’s something that’s been bothering me a lot since we started dating, — Yunho said seriously.

At that moment, I stopped searching for my keys and looked at him.

— Is this supposed to make me worried? Something’s been bothering you for almost a year, and only now you found the courage to say it? — I replied, sitting on the couch in the apartment we shared.

— I didn’t have the courage before because I was really afraid of how you’d react.

— Yunho... I’ve always made it clear that, for us to have a good relationship, we need to be honest with each other. And you hiding something that’s been bothering you isn’t honesty.

— I was just afraid you’d kick me out of the house if I told you, because it’s a sensitive topic, — he said seriously, but clearly struggling not to laugh.

— You’re not cheating on me, are you? — I asked, startled. It was an automatic thought — I’d been cheated on several times before.

— NO! Baby, I love you, and I’d never cheat on you, but... it’s a really hard subject to bring up with you.

— Jeong Yunho, stop fooling around and just tell me what you want to talk about.

— Promise you won’t kick me out of the house? — he said, testing my patience.

— If you don’t talk right now... then yes, I will kick you out — and you won’t be coming back.

— Please, love. Don’t do that, — he said, pleading, though still wearing that mischievous grin.

— You know very well I’m capable of doing it.

He pretended to wave goodbye and end the call, which made me even angrier.

— Don’t you dare hang up on me, Yunho. Or you’ll find out what an angry Brazilian really looks like.

— Alright... alright...

After that, he went quiet.

— Yunho, you’re making me anxious.

— Okay, I’ll tell you...

At that moment, I noticed something caught his attention — he looked away from the screen.

— I’m counting to three, Yunho.

— One...

— Two...

— It’s just that... I’ve always felt like we can’t see eye to eye.

Silence. From both of us. I couldn’t believe what I’d just heard.

Taking a deep breath, irritated, I replied:

— First of all, because of that little joke, you’re sleeping at Mingi’s place tonight.

— Why? I was just joking.

— You know exactly why, Jeong Yunho.

— But seriously, it’s a real concern.

— Me being shorter than you, you giant, is a concern?

— No. You know your height is perfect for me.

— You can be such an idiot sometimes, Yunho.

— But luckily for me, I’m the idiot you love.

— Now I’m not so sure... Maybe I should’ve gone for Hongjoong instead. At least he’d understand my issues and not make jokes about them.

— Don’t even joke about that, love.

— I’d better go. We’ll talk when you get home.

And with that, the call ended.

— Well, at least I still have a home to come back to... — Yunho sighed.

— Yunho... — said San, who had walked into the room during the little argument. — That might very well be the last time you ever step foot in your girlfriend’s house again. You know she’s sensitive about her height. She and Joongie are alike that way, — he concluded.

— I’m screwed... — Yunho muttered, rubbing his face. — Now I’ll have to calm down the little firecracker.

— Hyung... — San tried to say.
