Valerie

Just one more year. One more year and I will be free of this hell hole I call school. It might sound dramatic and, in all honesty, it is not SO bad. But imagine. Being a child of a single mother, who struggled sometimes to even put food on our table, but here I was at Elite Academy, where I stuck out like a sore thumb.

Sure, I got here by hard work and being the best in my classes, but compared to all the money and influence, that surrounded me, my smarts was only another thing that was against me and making me stood out.

People here, got through school by being rich, or to be precise, being born rich. Other got along because they were pretty, some because they had parents on high positions. So yeah, a sore thumb.

But like I said. Just one more year. I just had to stay invisible. As far away from trouble as possible.

Those were my thoughts while making my way to the classroom, but I guess today was not one of my lucky days.

Why you might wonder. See there was this clique that had it out for me since the first day I came to school. It was as if I had a tattoo on my forehead saying scholarship kid. They tormented me all three years so far and I was optimistic to think this year would be any different. So, as I was saying, with my head held down, minding my own business and keeping as low profile as possible I was just on my way to the first class for today, when suddenly someone bumped into me.

Now you might think, what is she getting her panties in a twist about such a small thing, but believe me I knew what was going on right away, because my books went flying not like someone bumped into me, but as if someone pretty much pulled them out of my hands, which was probably more accurately. And the giggling of known voices told me all I had to know.

It was the bitch trio as I called them. Melany, Melody and Missy. I know, it was as if they were hand picked by someone to stuck to each other like a gum to the shoe, “If it’s not our favourite charity case. How is life these days? Still as poor as you can be? And that mother of yours? Still cleaning shit after other people?” yeah, my mother was a cleaning lady as a prestigious hotel, but I was not ashamed of that fact. She earned money the legal way, which is more than could be said for many parents of this spoiled trust fund babies.

“Are you not getting tired of same lines Melody? You are kind of getting repetitive here.” I knew talking back would bring nothing good, but I just could not hold it back anymore. Sometimes I wonder, how fast karma works? Because you see it at work daily, but these girls seemed to be on some skip list or something because it seems the Karma lady never catches them. Or maybe because they were not the smartest Karma thought life was hitting them hard enough as it was. I had to giggle at that thought, which once again I knew would only make things worse for me. Oh well, since we are already in deep shit...

“You think it’s funny Charity?” Missy screeched. Yeah, I know they were soooo innovative with their nickname for me. I mean come on at least act like you are trying...

“No. I think it’s far from funny. Even the rest of the school is just bored with your tormenting tactics because they are same as they were three years ago. It might have been funny then, but it is definitely not anymore.” Today I was really on a spree and just asking for a punishment which I knew is coming. Either by their hands or I would somehow end up in principals’ office taking the blame for their stupid games.

By now Bitch trio was fuming with anger because I did not take their taunting as usually with silence and fast retreat. But I was tired, without any caffeine in me and that lead to a decision to stop being a punching bag for them, “My daddy will have you expelled for this!” now I all out laughed at her face, “For what ladies? Standing up for myself? I DID NOTHING WRONG! You are the ones always causing trouble! Even teachers are slowly getting tired of your bullshit! Maybe for once try minding your own business! You will see how much work you have there!” with that I turned my back on them and started walking away when suddenly a voice startled me.

Strong, a bit husky and definitely male. And I knew exactly who it belonged to. Damon. Schools’ heartthrob. I think there was not a heart on the campus he did not break, well except mine. I had no time for romance if I wanted to keep my scholarship, but also if I had, he would be on that KEEP AWAY FROM list, I would not do that if I were you!” yeay, one more person to shit on my parade on this fine morning. I was sure he was talking to me, and I just opened my eyes to speak, when I realized he was actually looking behind me and as I turned around, I realized he was talking to the Bitch trio. Melody had her hand extended and aimed straight at my back as if she wanted to grab my hair. And I guess... Damon was my... saviour?

Well, today was most definitely far from ordinary. I did not need a knight in shinning armour, after all I was no damsel in distress. I just wanted to be left alone to finish this school and than follow my dreams to become a lawyer. But this rich kids just kept messing with my head, my reputation, and my sanity. I decided I had enough confrontations for one day, so I just stepped around my “saviour” and continued my way to the classroom. Fuck them! I will finish this year with my head held high!
