Chapter 1: For the first time.

It's so boring here

Takeru thought to himself while sitting on the train, the plain blue sky and the wuthering clouds make it such a beautiful day. He had forgotten a lot of the beautiful landscape that surrounded his very old home. Blurry memories of his now old school came to mind when all his classmates were going crazy about their girlfriends, having one, or even the idea of having one, It was an all-boys school after alll after all.

Takeru had seen them cry, sob, and get excited.. and get excited about all these prospects. But he never cared, Takeru never loved anyone but himself, he didn’t even bat an eye the day his old grandpa died. And yet at this very moment all he was thinking was it could be very cool to have a girlfriend at this moment, someone who may be a travel companion for this trip.

Grandpa Mishima had always been a pain in the ass, and yet Takeru was not happy about his demise.

He didn’t want to go home, after all.. The great excuse to strip away a child from his family was a simple “it’s not good for a boy to live in an all girls house”. “And mom was just an obedient daughter after all”, Takeru thought to himself with an unfazed look while staring...

It was beautiful, and yet he was all alone in the train, the constant rattle made him feel even more lonely and isolated.

“I almost forgot about Masami”, Takeru got to his head, he never really said goodbye to Masami, one day they just put him in a car. “Grandpa is going to take you to a bigger house, you’ll live with him Takeru. He’s so lonely.“, words from her mom echoed thru his head.

“But Masami”, The 8 year old boy has doubts and yet her motherly words recomfort him, “She is going to be with me”. Now that Takeru is older seems bothered, it was all just deception. He couldn’t ever say goodbye to his sister.

Her ugly face, her bob cut, and the fact she never wanted to play with anyone but him. Takeru wondered how that tomboyish girl could be looking out now. She was always a bad loser who wanted to cry to her mom about almost everything. The last time he looked at her she was in the mud just playing with frogs with snot on her nose.

In a train stop, his loneliness seems to end.

It’s hard to know or describe the feelings that went to his head. Takeru was feeling a mixture of lust, love, tenderness, it was just love at the first sight, maybe, perhaps, was just that. The most beautiful girl he has ever seen in his life just appeared right in front of him.

Takeru was a tall and handsome young man with a black hair, dark as night, a hawk gaze with eyes who are seeing someone to prey, his eyes glow ambar beneath the sunlight, he had all that and a lot of confidence.

“Hello pretty”, he said while waving his hand, the girl was wearing a straw hat and a white sundress, like she was ready to go out for camping or the beach, her eyes were coquettish and cat-like. Takeru thought she would probably be a model at this point, and then suddenly there were going to appear guys with cameras for her photo session or something alike.

The girl hid herself with her straw hat, like not trying to see him.

Takeru never liked rejection. He stood up, and stood right in front of her, and put his left hand on her cheeks and watched her directly in her eyes. They were getting bigger and bigger, her eyes were beautiful, almost ambar like his but with a stronger color and her hair was brown like freshly cutted woo, probably dried up.

Takeru looked at her eyes and the glow in her eyes looked like stars for him.

“I just wanna know your name”, Takeru says softly, and then the girl feels his hand upping at her left thigh slowly. And then, just darkness, and the most numbing feeling ever on his nose, Takeru then realized he might have gone too far. “I’m sorry. Hey, could you at least tell me your name?”

The girl shot him the most contemptuous look he had ever seen in his life. She immediately stormed off to the farthest seat, close to the train’s driver’s cabin. It was unbelievable how angry she was. The minute after that was the longest and unco

Rings, rings*

His old phone with his old tone was yet there, his grandpa never let him use something too presumptuous, despite them having all the money that was necessary.

"Masami picked you?"

"No mom, but I’m arriving, we meet each other right there I guess".

The girl stood up and was ready to arrive. Takeru was nervous but nevertheless time for flirting is over. Her mom probably was near.

“Look at you both, the siblings reunited”, The mom was beautiful and no one could even dare to say she was more than 30 and with two children.

“Siblings reunited?”, Takeru asked somewhat nervous. “Yes, look at Masami You don’t even recognize her?”. Mom asked.

“No, is she... my sister?”, Takeru looked at her, and her facial expressions make sense, Takeru looked at her and the same expresions, the same face, it was her, once again, he couldn't even recognize her

Masami again hid behind her straw hat.

“Come on, don’t be shy”, let’s get to the house. The long walk out of the station, was loudly silent.

The car ride was cloaked in an uncomfortable silence and an air of unease.

"Did you enjoy living with your grandfather?” his mother asked.

"It’s not... time to talk about that, Mom.

"He always spoke highly of you.”

"I can imagine"

Grandpa was always keeping an eye on me, sometimes I just thought I should dedicate a little more time to the affairs of the house and not so much on me.

“We’re here, Takeru,” Yukari seemed to be smiling, happy to finally be able to live with her own son. It wasn’t a long journey, just crossing the bridge, taking the train, and a bit of time in the car. What really surprised Takeru was how alive the the city was, the colors, the lights, so many people living, coexisting, simply passing time in the urban landscape.

These were things that seemed foreign to how he thought life should be. Or perhaps this is how it should have always been—waking up at 5 AM, running until 6 AM, exercising until 8 AM, going to school, coming back and studying all day. All without any rest, now he thinks of it as if it was nothing, but only one thought comes to his mind: “It’s as if that old man had stripped all pleasure from life.”

They had arrived, the sun was already setting and you could see how the sky slowly lost its orange hue, fading into purple streaks. Yukari got out of the car and gently tapped on Masami’s window. Startled and dazed, Masami rose, “I’m coming.”

“A apartment complex?” Takeru said.

“Yes,” Masami responded, surprising him that she answered and not his mother. “Yes Takeru, don’t worry, you’ll see.”

It was a beautiful apartment complex, centrally located in the city. The decor was simple but the elegance and details gave the impression that it was at least a four-star establishment. Yukari didn’t even look at the attendant, heading straight for the elevator, accompanied by her two children. Take carefully observed everything, after all this would be his new home.

The top floor, the dark ambiance changed as soon as the mother turned on the lights. This hallway was different, it had a more homey and slightly unkempt feel. He was surprised to see something at the end of the corridor, a glass window that opened onto a swimming pool. Takeru walked over there, marveled by the classic pool and view of the city. Even with everything turned off, he could understand how well-crafted it all was, thinking that this was now meters away from what would be his home was something he could have never dreamed of. In the awe of the moment, he forgot that his mother and sister were watching him.

“Ah, I think you like the pool,” Yukari said with a sardonic tone. “Anyway, this is your room at the end, but you’ll see it later. For now, let’s eat.”

The food was nothing too impressive. Just some well-seasoned meat and potatoes. Masami only ate fish and a salad. He didn’t even question why, she’s a girl, still watching her figure. In that regard, Takeru adored his mother, she ate like a man and never had a problem giving Takeru what he needed, but that was already 8 years ago. The memory of familiarity comforted him.

They ate at a relatively large glass table, with ornaments and stones underneath. Takeru noticed how luxurious it was. Sometimes he forgot that he and his family were technically rich.

“It pained me a bit to tell you that I had to sell the land where our original house was,” Yukari said with a hint of disappointment on her face.

“No problem, I figured as much,” Takeru said with complete disinterest. “In the end, it’s the family that makes a home, not the place, right?” he said as he put a piece of meat in his mouth.

“You’re starting to sound like your grandfather, it makes me happy,” Yukari said with a different, more serious but happy complexion. Masami just stared down at the table, completely excluded.

“The bedroom is at the end, this functions as the kitchen and living room, you can be here whenever you want. Haha, there’s also a huge TV you can use anytime, just please don’t fight with your sister over it.”

“I won’t,” Masami said, looking the other way.

Everyone went to bed after that. Takeru was surprised at how big his room was, but he didn’t think about it all that much. All he was thinking about was sleep. He simply put a blanket over himself and went into the sweet arms of Morpheus.

A small fox frolics in the snow, jumping happily and ruffling its fur. It shakes the snow particles off its nose and plants its head in the snow. A sound is heard nearby, branches cracking and rustling. The fox raises its head, alert but unable to see anything. It lowers its muzzle back to the snow, then a paw, a bite, a black shadow swiftly slithering over its neck before it realizes, a wolf much larger than it. Warm blood trickles over the wolf’s fangs as the fox thrashes its legs, slowly losing strength and vitality. The thrashing becomes weaker and weaker until it finally loses all strength, still processing the pain, the fox seems to lament its situation. The wolf is relentless, tearing, biting harder and harder. The snow stains red with blood, the sweetness invades it, happy because in winter food becomes scarce and foxes are easy prey. But there it is, a stiff corpse on the ground still bleeding, dead.

Takeru wiped his mouth, drool? He didn’t understand what was happening. He never had dreams, he look at the door. Masami is close, all close to me, just one steps away from me. An intrusive thought comes to his head, he put the sheet back on and simply closed his eyes.
