Prologue
PROLOGUE
‘The Establishment’
We have never been able to rectify the people completely, never have we ever defied the people publicly. We are not corrupt, just bringing a change in the environment. So the day we have to give a speech, today, we know the people will believe us. After all, they have to.
“My fellow people, it has been a long journey for all of us here. I, the president of Vancor, am hereby vowing for all of us to get the best care of our lives. Food, shelter, water, basic necessities. Anything you want, you name it and you will get it as soon as possible. The king himself is going to give a check on all your problems and help solve them. All we want in return is money. After all, every good kingdom needs money to improve and henceforth I want all of you here giving as much as you can in this donation box. Not for us but for all of you. The establishment is going to meet with all of you with needs and we will give out food and water for all of you present here. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
I promise that you won’t need to worry about anything ever again. After all, the establishment never forgets a promise.”
The guards nudge the people and shout out, “Long live the establishment!” All the other people follow suit, shouting out like a chant.
“Long live the establishment. Long live Vancor!”
“Now I request you all to add whatever money you have into the donation box and let us work the magic for you.”
The box starts filling up, all the people who believe deeply in us lining up to pay for their own good.
“Remember we are doing this for all of us. For Vancor.”
The other people who were hesitating before start lining up too, after all, everyone wants to do something for this kingdom.
There’s only one name for all of these people here.
Pathetic.
