PROLOGUE

It was supposed to be a normal and peaceful night. She would be with her family in the garden of their modern-day bungalow for their usual family dinner which consisted of famous traditional dishes made into perfection by her father, while everyone would engage in a series of laughter as they teased each other nonstop. Thousands of sparkling stars populated the night sky, making them appreciate the marvelous creation of God.

Never in a million years did she expect anything less. Never would she have imagined herself bind by the harsh ropes that was tearing into her caramel toned skin but she didn’t care. The poor girl struggled against the harsh ropes, causing it to press harder against her wrists as heavy whimpers escaped her. She struggled to free her hands from the ropes, causing her wrists to hurt and bleed. Fear filled her as she remained in the dark room, her heart beating erratically.

It had been dark for quite a long while now; every single angle of the room was pure black, no sense of light anywhere. The girl had been crying for what she knew were days, but didn’t know exactly how many because there wasn’t any source of light to count the days from the nights as everywhere was the same since she’d woken up.

“Help! Please!” she screamed for what felt like the thousandth time as she’d been doing, hoping for someone to come to her rescue but either way, the damn door had been shot. Screaming constantly without food or water made her throat sore and dry.

“It’s pointless.” the other lady in the room voiced through a small and very hoarse voice, at the other corner of the room. The two women could not see each other’s faces because of the pitch blackness that evaded the whole room. They only ever got a glimpse of their silhouettes.

“Please shut the fuck up if you aren’t going to be of any help.” the girl yelled at the other woman. She was pissed that she couldn’t meet up with family dinner and now her family was definitely worried because she’d never miss a dinner and even if she did, they were sure for her to call. She was also pissed that she’d been in a dark room and hadn’t seen the light of day, neither did she know how long she was in the blackness for. She was even more pissed that her ‘room-mate’ or whatever was the most negative person she’d ever thought of knowing.

She was constantly quiet and when she ever said stuff, it was as negative as the minus sign. From the looks of it, the other lady had been in the darkness way longer than she. The girl had asked her several questions, along the line of where they were or who kidnapped them but she always refused to answer and when she tried to, she screamed in agonizing pain that instantly shut her up. It was as if whoever was doing this didn’t want her to answer the question.

At first, she’d been worried about the other woman but anger instantly took over and despite the fact that she was being selfish for not caring, she still couldn’t care less. The other woman had answers she couldn’t give because the captors were hellbent on torturing her every time she tried to answer the questions of the brown woman.

The other woman let out a very weak sarcastic laugh; it almost sounded like a cough. Her throat was dry; the kidnapper hadn’t fed her in two weeks, since he brought in the girl, drugged and unconscious.

“Wow. I can’t believe I was actually excited to know that you exist.” The other woman said and coughed, followed by a metallic taste in her mouth. She knew it was her blood; she’d been coughing up blood or sometimes, her nose would drip blood.

The girl sighed in utter frustration. It was undeniably obvious that the other woman knew her or knew of her but the girl didn’t know her at all or at least she didn’t think she’d heard her voice before as she couldn’t exactly see the woman’s face.

“How do you know me?” the girl asked this time, her anger vanishing SLIGHTLY. The other woman laughed again as her head fell weakly because of her malnourished state. The girl sighed, figuring the woman wouldn’t be answering her questions like always but she tried nonetheless.

“How long have you been in here?” The girl’s curiosity got the best of her. She was trying her best to look towards where the other woman was but she could only make out her form. The girl sighed again, suspecting that she wasn’t going to answer that too.

“Six months.” she suddenly said which was followed by series of screams that lasted for about five minutes. The woman let out a sorrowful cry, thrashing and screaming in serious pain. The girl watched the other woman’s silhouette, the chains clanging as she tossed and turned.

When the woman’s screams finally died down, she let out an exhausted breath. The girl couldn’t help but imagine just how long she had to go through that. She’d been here for six months and her family were probably worried sick about her. Her thoughts returned back to her and she started to wonder just how long she’d be there.

No, she won’t! She was going to get the both of them out of there and whoever did this was going away for a very long time, the girl thought. Just then, there was a rough sound before she was hit brutally by the rays of lights coming from a part in the room. She gulped as she noticed the silhouette of a tall and broad figure by the open space but his face wasn’t seen because of the light.

The sound of the other woman whimpering told her that whoever walked through that door was of certain, someone not to mess with. There were some movements in the room until white light luminated everywhere in the previous blackness. The two ladies had to blink a few times to get accustomed to it.

The girl finally looked up and whole and behold, there was her kidnapper. She’d never imagined what he looked like; she was always too busy wondering how the hell she got in there in the first place or why anyone would want to do this to her or anybody at all. She didn’t know if it would have been better if they remained in

the dark room, where there wasn’t any psychotic looking beast towering over her, looking ready to kill any moments.

He grinned widely and maliciously, his lips stretching out and exposing his perfectly pearl looking white teeth. He slowly stalked predatorially, confidence and arrogance indicated with every step he took towards her. He now stopped directly in front of her, close enough for her to get a little whiff of his expensive lemon perfume.

“Well, isn’t this the perfect family reunion.”
