Arrival at Radiant Academy.

The morning sun was soft and warm, as if it welcomed everyone for a new day, for a new hope, for a new life . A long, shiny luxury car slowed down near the entrance. Its engine hummed quietly before stopping a few feet away from the main gate, as if even the car is hiding something from the Academy.

Emma stepped out of the car slowly, holding the straps of her simple, ordinary bag. Even though she was dropped by a luxury car, nothing about her outfit or appearance matched it. She wore a plain cotton dress, light-coloured and modest. Her shoes were simple, her hair tied back neatly. She looked more like a nervous village girl than someone arriving at one of the best boarding academies in the country.

The car drove away as soon as she shut the door. Emma watched it leave with a strange mix of relief and fear in her heart. Now she was alone. Truly alone.

She took a slow breath and started walking towards the main gate. Her hands were cold, her heart beating faster with every step. This was the moment she had waited for — the beginning of a new life. Still, she felt frightened. Everything looked huge, unfamiliar, and something deep inside whispered, What if you don’t belong here?

The tall metal gate of Radiant Academy stood before her like a boundary between her past and her future. When she finally reached it, she stopped. She looked up at the big blue and golden board that shone in the sunlight:

“RADIANT ACADEMY – Where Every Dream Begins to Shine.”

For a moment, Emma forgot to breathe.

She whispered to herself, “I hope this place changes my life… even just a little.”

Memories of her past life — rules, restrictions, loneliness — flashed in her mind. She blinked them away and stepped forward, crossing the gate. She didn’t know if she was stepping into freedom or into another cage. But she hoped. She truly hoped.

Just as she took her first few steps inside, a cheerful voice came from behind her.

“Hi! You must be Emma, the new student, right?”

Emma turned around, surprised. A girl with short hair, bright eyes, and a huge smile was running towards her, waving her hand like they had known each other for years.

“I’m Pinki!” the girl said proudly. “Your roommate. I’ve been waiting for you. Come on, I’ll show you the way to the office room.”

Emma managed a small smile. “Hello… Pinki. Okay, let’s go.”

The moment they started walking, Pinki began talking — fast, loud, and excited.

“Oh, you’re going to love this academy! The garden is amazing, the food is okay… sometimes good, sometimes terrible… and the classrooms are soooo big! And our dormitory—”

Emma only nodded quietly. Pinki talked enough for both of them.

Pinki continued happily, “So where are you from? What do you like? What’s your hobby? Oh—and I forgot to tell you—I’m from Rose Town, and my mother is a tailor, and my father works in the post office, and—”

Emma looked around while Pinki talked. Her eyes were nervous, shy, and filled with curiosity. Everything was new — the long pathways, tall trees, the groups of students laughing together, and the large buildings surrounding the campus. It felt like a different world.

Pinki suddenly paused and asked, “Emma? Are you tensed?”

Emma quickly answered, “No… nothing.”

Pinki gave a suspicious look but didn’t push further. They reached the administration building soon — a tall, glass-covered office with a big staircase. Inside, everything was clean, shiny, and perfectly organized.

The admission officer, a middle-aged man with glasses, looked up as they entered.

“Emma Williams, the new scholarship student, right?” he said with a gentle smile. “Congratulations. You have an outstanding educational background. Here is your student ID.”

Emma took the ID with both hands. “Thank you, sir.”

“Wish you a bright future,” he added warmly. “Welcome to Radiant Academy — where dreams come true.”

Emma gave a shy smile. She hoped those words would become true for her.

With their paperwork done, Pinki led her through a long corridor.

“Now let’s go to the dormitory,” she said cheerfully. “Only girls are allowed there.”

They walked outside again, crossing the garden. Birds chirped, students chatted on benches, and groups of girls walked around wearing stylish dresses and cute backpacks. Emma felt even smaller than before. She had never seen so many confident girls at once.

Soon they reached the dormitory — a tall four-storied building painted cream and brown. It looked strong, strict, and a little old.

“Our room is on the second floor,” Pinki said. “But first, we need to finish the paperwork at the coordinator’s office.”

Emma nodded silently and followed her.

Inside the dormitory office sat the dormitory manager, Ms. Sophie — a woman around forty-five, heavy-built, with short hair tied tightly, and eyebrows always pointing downwards. Her face itself could frighten anyone.

Pinki knocked softly. “May we come in, ma’am?”

“Yes,” Ms. Sophie replied sharply without even looking up.

When she finally looked at them, her expression felt like she was questioning why they were alive.

“Who are you?” she demanded. “What do you want?”

Pinki straightened herself quickly. “Ma’am, this is Emma. The new member of our dormitory. She got admitted today with a huge scholarship. We came to finish the paperwork.”

Emma stood silently, tightening her grip on her bag.

Ms. Sophie glared. “Can’t you speak for yourself?”

Emma swallowed. “Y-yes, ma’am.”

Ms. Sophie scribbled something and handed them a small card.

“Your room number is 321. This is your dormitory ID pass. Read the rules and obey them strictly. I cannot tolerate students who don’t follow my rules.”

Pinki and Emma almost ran out of the office after taking the papers, breathing in relief once they were outside.

“Our manager is a little scary,” Pinki whispered. “Okay… a lot scary. Everyone fears her. But don’t worry, among friends we copy her face all the time!” She giggled.

Emma didn’t reply but smiled a little.

They climbed the stairs to the second floor and stopped in front of Room 321. Pinki pushed open the door gently.

“This is our room.”

The room was small but cozy — two single beds on opposite sides, two shelves, two reading tables, and a window that opened towards the garden. The walls were decorated with pictures Pinki had stuck — funny memes, cute animals, cartoon characters, and posters of magical fantasy worlds.

Pinki truly seemed full of life, joy, and laughter — things Emma had always been far away from.

Emma placed her bag on the empty bed and quietly began organizing her things. Meanwhile, Pinki continued talking excitedly about the academy, the exam system, the girls in the dormitory, and teachers who gave too much homework.

Suddenly Pinki stopped and looked at her.

“Emma… I’m the only one talking since morning. You didn’t say much. I want to know about you too. Tell me about your family?”

Emma froze.

Her eyes darkened, her lips trembled slightly. That one question hit her like a stone.

Pinki noticed it immediately. “Emma… anything wrong? Are you missing your family?”

Emma shook her head quickly. “Nothing serious. I’m just tired. Let’s talk tomorrow. And thank you… for helping me the whole day.”

Pinki wasn’t convinced, but she smiled softly. “My pleasure. We’ll talk tomorrow. Good night!”

“Good night,” Emma replied quietly.

Soon the room became silent.

Pinki fell asleep quickly, but Emma couldn’t. For the first time in her life, she had time — time to breathe, time to think, and time to feel.

She sat beside the window, looking at the night sky full of stars. A soft breeze entered the room, touching her face gently as if comforting her.

Her heart felt heavy.

She thought about her life…

Her secrets…

Her loneliness…

She remembered her childhood — always restricted, always watched. She was never allowed to play outside like other children. She was picked up and dropped by the driver every day. No excursions. No friends except one or two girls chosen by her family. No freedom.

All these turned her into a quiet, introverted, mysterious girl.

But despite everything, she was brilliant. She stood first in the entrance exam. Radiant Academy offered her a full scholarship. But her father refused. He didn’t want his daughter to live far away from him. Not because of love, but because of control.

Emma fought for her dream. She begged. Finally, they agreed — but with one condition:

She must hide her real identity.

No one should know she belonged to the William family —

the richest and most aristocratic family in the region.

Emma never understood why. But she agreed.

And now she was here — in this academy, in this dormitory, in this small room… carrying all her secrets alone.

Tonight was her first night away from her family.

But strangely, she felt something new…

Not fear.

Not sadness.

But relief.

For the first time, she felt she might discover freedom.

She might discover who she truly is.

She whispered softly, looking at the stars,

“I hope I find happiness here…”

Slowly, with all these thoughts, Emma leaned on her pillow and closed her eyes. Within minutes, exhaustion pulled her into sleep.

Her new life had just begun.
