“A Little Too Much”

I loved you in small ways

like saving the last bite for you,

like laughing a little louder

just to see you smile,

like pretending I wasn’t looking

even when you were all I ever saw.

You called it “cute.”

I called it “love.”

Funny how we used different names

for the same feeling.

Sometimes you held me softly,

sometimes you held back,

and I learned that sweetness and pain

can live in the same heartbeat.

You never broke me loudly.

You just forgot to stay.

And somehow, that hurt more

than anything you could’ve said.

Still, I keep you kindly

not because you were perfect,

but because some people feel like poetry,

even when they never loved us enough.
