Chapter 1(The Beginning)
Chapter 1: The First Meeting
It was the 7th of January, a day that marked the beginning of a new journey for Dheeraj. Seventeen years old, filled with dreams and determination, she had stepped into Sikar to pursue her ambitions.
The bustling corridors of the hostel felt overwhelming, but she was ready to face whatever came her way.
She had enrolled in Alpha NDA Coaching, a place known for its rigorous training and discipline.
The first few days were a whirlwind of introductions and adjustments. Amidst the chaos, she found solace in Tanu, the first friend she made. Little did she know, this bond would grow into an unbreakable friendship.
Days went by, and Dheeraj’s hostel room witnessed another change. Ankita moved in, bringing with her a wave of awkward silences and hesitant smiles. But as time passed, the three of them became inseparable. They laughed, studied, and navigated through the complexities of hostel life together.
One evening, Dheeraj sat in the common hall, her notebook open, eyes fixed on a complicated math problem. She had joined late, and the backlog of missed classes loomed over her like a dark cloud. The math teacher, always busy with classes, hardly had time to clear her doubts. Frustrated and lost, she vented her worries to Ankita.
Ankita’s eyes lit up, “Arey, Nitesh se pooch le na! Mera cousin hai, yahin padhai kar raha hai. Usse puch le, wo pakka help karega.”
Dheeraj hesitated. She didn’t know him. But the urgency of catching up with her studies pushed her to try. The next day, after class, she found herself in the hall with Ankita. There he was – Nitesh, sitting comfortably on the sofa, scrolling through his phone. Ankita nudged her, “Woh raha, jaa baat kar. Maine baat kar li hai usse.”
Dheeraj took a deep breath and approached him. Her voice was hesitant, “Woh... aap... I mean... tum mujhe questions samjha doge?”
He looked up, surprised at first, but then nodded, “Haan, kyun nahi?”
They moved to the classroom. As he explained the concepts, his ease with the subject became evident. Yet, what caught Dheeraj’s attention was his shy demeanor. He was polite, almost too polite, and there was a certain hesitance in his speech.
During the explanations, he casually asked, “Aaj wale test mein tune kitne questions kiye?”
Dheeraj was taken aback by his informal tone but felt oddly comfortable. It was strange how the formality vanished instantly. From that moment, she never addressed him as ‘aap’ again.
Suddenly, Vivek Sir, the coaching head, entered the room with a question in hand. He looked at Nitesh and teased, “Tu itna sharma kyun raha hai? Pehle toh ye bata...”
Dheeraj noticed Nitesh’s discomfort. He was visibly shy around girls. It was amusing but endearing at the same time. She smiled inwardly. Who would have thought that someone who could solve complex math problems with ease would struggle with simple conversations?
That day marked the beginning of an unusual bond. It wasn’t friendship yet, but it was something.
A hesitant start to a story that neither of them saw coming.
